The Lottery Post has many intelligent members. For them, what "covetousness" means in Exodus 20:17 is obvious.

Sid Vicious, Johnny Rotten, and The Sex Pistols....
Well, that explains it.
Obviously you are not one of them.
again The meanings of ancient words from old langauges have multiple meanings. Any good Theologian will tell you the same thing.
As for Johnny Rotten AKA Mr. John Lydon he is one of the world's most intelligent individuals. Surely above your myopic understanding.
As for Punk Rock it was a needed form of music that broke the molds that were holding music from progressing from the stagnet state it was in during the 1970s. Punk Rock paved the way for many other genres of music to actually get recorded and get air play.
Many people who began as "lowlife" Punk Rockers later went on to do great things for the world. IE Sting, Bono, and Sir Bob Geldof.
Sure I started in Punk Rock and moved on to Gothic Rock. However now I compose Modern Classical and Electronic Music. Doing alot of work with Micro Tonal Music that is used for healing.
oh yeah and did I mention that many words from ancient langauges have multiple meanings. Actually many words in all langauges have multiple meanings. There is no arguement against that and never will be.
And okay it's 2007 why are you posting Bible verses in Old English? KJV huh? What about the NIV? What about The Living Bible? We could go on and on as far as versions of The Bible. But I am sure you are mostly likely one of those folks who are like "The real Bible was written in 1611" yeah I have heard one too many people say that in my life.
It's a Lottery site and I didn't bring up The Bible or Christianity someone else did. So if you don't want people to make comments on the hypocracy of Christians then don't bring it into a secular site about gambling.

I can't find it now, but I read a news article about a couple somewhere east of the mississippi - maybe on the eastern seaboard - who won the lottery and tried to tithe to their church. They were denounced as sinners, the tithe was refused, and they were ostracized in their community. Many Christian churches DO believe gambling is a sin. Mormons also believe it's a sin.

I've also heard of churches and religious groups that believe not tithing a full 10% of your income before taxes is a sin too. I don't know if their members are required to show proof of their real earnings or not.
Actually tith is more than 10%, 10% is only part of it and it's to be given to the person who instruct you in the ways of God, then there is another 10% that goes to something else. The there is another 30% that you are suppose to save and spend every 3 years on a party or some such thing.
This preacher Dr Gene Scott explains it somewhere on his website. Look him up. He's dead now though.

I do not follow organized religion. I think most people blindly follow what their parents were taught. I think everybody should just have their own relationship with God. Believing in The Bible(a book), which is based off organized religion(which is man-made and there are so many of), is pretty much guessing at what the word of God is. Nobody can say who's religion is right or wrong. If God gave his word to the people of the past, then he can certainly give you yourself his word as well. That doesn't necessarily mean He's going to speak to you from the sky or anything like that. There will be certain ways he expresses Himself towards you.
With that said, I think it's perfectly ok to play the lottery. If I win the lottery, I will donate to charity. The amount I donate depends on the amount after taxes I win. No, manzplan, I'm not asking for divine intervention when I say that, nor can you say others are doing that as well when they do the same. They are just stating what they would do with some of the money. Those "scripts" that you read out of that book called "The Bible", which was written by a man, not God himself, will have no affect on me whatsoever. God and I will both form our own relationship and I will base my beliefs by how I live my life and the events that take place during my life.
well actually alot of people can say other's religions are wrong and do.
There is much evidence to prove that most religions are wrong and that they are simplye mythology.
I was born in 1961 and did go to Christian churches alot of my life until I wised up.
Those churches all said gambling was wrong. So I was a little bit surprize to see so many overt Christians giving me and others a lecture on how I should donate to charity on a site that is about gambling.
I find it laughable and as a matter a fact I am having a good laugh at many of the responses to my original question. It obviously shows a couple of people can't read.
I wonder what Zeus or Isis have to say about gambling. Who's to say they didn't or don't exist?

Simply because society demands this type of justification, mostly because they are envious, and pissed that it was not them who won it. So they want you to give it all away. The person who won the lottery never deserves it, they should always be giving it away to someone else more worthy...I will help out who I want, and who I feel needs it most. Not who society thinks I should help, being I was invisible to them before I won.

The main point of this is that alot of people have big and unreasonable expectations of just what they can and can not do if they won the lottery. Many charities view lottery winners money as their money.
If you get caught in that trap and end up like Jack Whittaker for instance then people will call you a fool and not remember all those Millions you've donated to charity.
If you do want to donate to charities after a big lottery win then be silent about it. Being very public about it is very tacky for one thing and it opens you up to alot of trouble. Boxes of mail from people you don't even know, phone calls, and people showing up at your door.
Winning say 25 Million in the lottery you won't be able to end Hunger in Africa..... it's idiotic to think so. You could have one sponser child or 2 and really change their lives... IE treat them as your own child and set up a college fund for them etc etc..... But many would take on 100 sponser children and then when their winnings run out cos they are giving to this place or that and to friend and family and buying what they THINK they can afford..... then those 100 children will soon need new sponsers.
I am not trying to rain of the parades of people's dreams... just trying to point out some things so that if the dream happens it doesn't turn into a nightmare as it did for Whittaker, Edwards, and Post and some others.
If any of you win The Big One..... for your own sakes and that of your family DO NOT say those dreaded ill-fated words in the post win interview..... "I'll donate some to Charity" even if you plan to. Because those words are poison for lottery winners. Look closely at all the lottery failures and that has played a part in most of them. That and extended family and friends.

Well they can certainly "say", as in terms of moving their mouth that they think a certain religion is wrong, but they are not in any position of righteousness to say a certain religion is right or wrong. Of course, they will say their religion is right and others are wrong, but that's because that's what they were taught. I see the Bible as nothing more than stories that have been passed on over a long period of time. Over that long period of time, the original story has been skewed because of all the misinterpretations. Therefore, I have refused to subject myself to such scripts.

I am too sick of organized religions saying that your going to hell if you don't believe like I do. The current U.S. tax system seems covetous to me though. Fair Tax is greatly needed!!!
