fifth they incorrectly post the wrong jackpot amount.

I don't care for RNG's myself, but I find it funny how some of you guys like to take a mistake and break it down into as many different mistakes because apparently the more things you can list the worse they are. Also, I wouldn't say the RNG was "snuck in" because on the FAQ page of the TN lottery website it states:
I would like details about how your drawings are conducted.
On July 28, 2007, the Tennessee Lottery began holding its drawings using the latest in automated technology, joining numerous lotteries throughout the world that use similar computerization.
Cash 3, Cash 4, Lotto 5 and Hot Trax drawings are conducted at the Tennessee Lottery’s headquarters in Nashville using one of two automated drawing machines. These are stand-alone computers that operate as random number generators. A random number generator consists of highly secure computerized systems that generate numbers in a random manner, with no human involvement. The drawings are videotaped. Once the winning numbers are drawn, they are transferred for broadcast to the viewing public to our partner television stations throughout the state.
Instead of doing the whole list as many things as I can nonsense, I would break it down into 2 major mistakes:
1. Computerized drawing malfunction.
2. Incorrect phone number for refunds.
Also, the drawing malfunction was the result of a third party. I know a lot of people like to point the finger, but I realize a mistake when I see it, so although I do believe that players who played doubles, triples, or quads should be refunded by the TN lottery(which the TN lottery is currently doing), I'm going to point the finger at the third party.
I don't want you people to get me wrong. I hold people responsible when they need to be held responsible, but some of you are very silly about discovered mistakes.

I don't want you people to get me wrong. I hold people responsible when they need to be held responsible, but some of you are very silly about discovered mistakes.
Gurus' last sentence:
"I don't want you people to get me wrong. I hold people responsible when they need to be held responsible, but some of you are very silly about discovered mistakes."
But when it comes to fractional silly discovered mistakes in another thread Guru says:
It IS fractions! If you have 1 ticket, your chances of winning are 1 in 146,107,962. If you have 5 tickets, your chances of winning are 1 in 29,221,592.4, which is the same as 5 in 146,107,962! You have to count every ticket you bought! You own ALL 5 tickets! Why the hell did you all start a debate about this? All I'm doing is converting a fraction. Why do you care if I'm converting it? You do it your way, and I'll do it my way. It's the same number and it's correct! All this over something so small. If you don't think it's correct, then I recommend doing some reading on fractions. You can start here:
You people need to understand that every little bit counts no matter how big of a number you're talking about. If you buy an extra ticket, it might be just another shot out of the millions and millions of possibilites there are, but it counts!
Guru again.
So basically your saying I'm wrong when I say that if a person has bought 5 tickets, their odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 29,221,592.4? If that's what your saying then you need to go back to grade school.
Guru again:
See, that is something that is incorrect. If you have 1 ticket and the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 10, then YOUR odds are 1 in 10, not 1 in 9. If somebody else has bought 2 tickets, THEIR odds of winning would be 2/10 or 1/5. Do you see how I'm doing this now? I'm just converting the odds so that the numerator is 1. That's all.Whether it's 10 or 146,107,962, if you want to change the numerator or denominator of a fraction, then you have to change the other one as well. If you have 5 tickets and you want to look at your odds as being 5 in 146,107,512, then that's ok, but at the same time you cannot tell someone they are wrong if they have 5 tickets as well and are looking at their odds as being 1 in 29,221,502.4 because mathematically it's correct.
Guru again:
Each SINGLE ticket has a 1 in 146,107,512 chance of being the jackpot winner, but I'm talking about a SINGLE PERSON's odds of winning the jackpot. If a person buys 5 tickets, they own ALL 5 tickets. Your statement about buying 5 tickets 13 more times and winning is wrong.
A SINGLE PERSON's odds of winning the jackpot based off the number of tickets that person has bought:
1 ticket = 1 in 146,107,512
2 tickets = 2 in 146,107,512 OR 1 in 73,053,756
5 tickets = 5 in 146,107,512 OR 1 in 29,221,502.4
10 tickets = 10 in 146,107,512 OR 1 in 14,610,751.2
25 tickets = 25 in 146,107,512 OR 1 in 5,844,300.48
25,000 tickets = 25,000 in 146,107,512 OR 1 in 5,844.30048
1,000,000 tickets = 1,000,000 in 146,107,512 OR 1 in 146.107512(<-Obvious)
146,107,512 tickets = 146,107,512 in 146,107,512 OR 1 in 1(<-Definitely obvious)
Guru again:
DUH!!!!!! I'm talking about NO duplicates! You should have assumed that I was because that's what's been assumed this whole discussion!
Guru again:
Guru101 is correct. 'Nuff said.
I'm glad to see there are a few people who understand. A lot of people seem to be thinking I'm getting rid of combinations, but I'm not. There are still 146,107,512 possibilites, but to EXPRESS the odds as 1/x you have to divide both the numerator and denominator by the same number. So when you say 2/10 is the same as 1/5, you're dividing both the 2 by 2, which is 1, and the 10 by 2, which is 5. It's not getting rid of combinations, it's just EXPRESSING the fraction in a different way.
But it doesn't end here, it keeps going:
You're mistaken. You see, the odds of someone winning with 5 tickets is 5 times more likely to occur than someone who has 1 ticket. That's why 146,107,962 was divided by 5. Going from 5 tickets to 10 tickets does not have the same effect. Going from 5 tickets to 10 tickets does not divide that person's odds by 5, it divides it by 2, in effect doubling the persons chances of winning the jackpot.
No duplicates:
1 ticket = 1 in 146,107,962
5 tickets = 5 in 146,107,962 OR 1 in 29,221,502.4
10 tickets = 10 in 146,107,962 OR 1 in 14,610,751.2
As you can see, going from 1 ticket to 5 tickets increases your odds by 5 because you have 5 TIMES more tickets, but going from 5 tickets to 10 tickets only doubles it because you have 2 TIMES more tickets. For $70 worth of tickets:
70 tickets = 70 in 146,107,962 OR 1 in 2,087,256.6
NOTE: I made an oopsie in my previous posts as typing 146,107,962 as 146,107,512. Sorry about that. Got too many numbers running through my head. 146,107,962 is the correct one.
And it keeps going...........
Silly fractions. Don't be so judgemental of others, you get silly just like anybody else. And you aren't the arbiter of responsibilty.

Jarasan, I don't know if you've figured this out or not, but I'm the type of person who likes to "look at the big picture". A lot of people look at the drawing malfunction, and automatically go into a rage and start listing as many things as they can, even breaking down a single major mistake into many different ones just for the sole purpose of having more things listed, as well as not even taking into consideration the third party involvement in the malfunction. To me, it's ridiculous.

I would have to disagree. These events were all independent blunders by a lottery that is piling mistake upon mistake. It all began with a bonehead move to computerized drawings, ruining a happy state of balance.
I must say, if there is anything proving that karma exists, this is it.

Your second-to-last paragraph states, "...the drawing malfunction was the result of a third party".
That is what the LOTTERY blames, but in reality, how could you possibly pass the buck to a vendor, after you sent out an e-mail stating that you had checked the drawing mechanism yourself, and it produced doubles just fine?
Your "big picture" view is not really the best way to break down the lottery troubles, and you are leaving out other mistakes. The e-mail, not testing properly, incorrect jackpot figures, not responding for weeks to complaints, etc. If you think these are all one mistake, I'd have to disagree.

I break things down in accordance to what needs to be fixed. There's nothing wrong with making a list of mistakes that needs to be fixed, but I'm not going to take 2 things that are so obvious and list them separately just for the sole purpose of having more things listed, especially since I'm not someone within the organization that had the problem. I'm not a big nitpicker. I think a lot of people aren't understanding why I made that post. I posted my comment because there seems to be a lot members here, who as soon as they find a problem or mistake within an organization, they turn it into 3 ring circus. There's already several threads about this and someone decides to add 1 more to the list. That's all that is, and that's all I was saying.
Joshuacloak, did I say I didn't hold the TN lottery responsible? No. I hold them ULTIMATELY responsible because they're the ones running the game, but at the same time, people need to get back to reality and realize that mistakes do happen. Maybe I'm just a more considerate person than most people. If you have a warranty on a Dell computer, and one day it doesn't turn on, so you look inside and the motherboard is fried, are you going to get make up your mind that all Dell computers are nothing but crap even though the motherboard could have been faulty? Are you going then pull out a piece of paper and write down all the reasons you hate Dell? That's only the point I was making. My post wasn't primarily for the TN lottery, but for the members of this site who take one problem and turn it into a blunder. Again, there was already several "I hate the Tennessee Lottery" threads made with plenty of things listed as to why people hate them. I just think it's ridiculous to think that an argument is stronger simply because you have a bigger list. THAT was my point.

guru i take it you like computerized draws?
What the hell dude? I find it you're under the impression I'm not holding the Tennesse Lottery responsible as the same things you are, but I AM!!! I'm just not acting like a monkey about it and starting a new thread everyday and spamming the forum with the same thing over and over. As you've just proven, there's already a thread about the topic, in yet IT MUST be posted in another thread. IT MUST!!!

Dude, Mike is not "spamming the forums." He outlined several of the on-going problems with the Tennessee Lottery. For your information, the state legilslature is also looking at these same issues, and they take each of the things Mike is talking about very seriously.
You are free to your opinion, but you should not attack Mike for posting something that the state government is even up in arms about. If you don't like it, then just ignore it or block it, but don't attack it just because you disagree.

The list of things is big because they are royally screwing up, not because Mike is trying to make his argument stronger.
