Note to self: Next visit to China, don't try rigging the lottery.
A Chinese lottery ticket seller has been jailed for life for fraud for taking advantage of a system flaw to cash 28 million yuan ($3.76 million) in tickets illegally, state media said Tuesday.
Zhao Liqun discovered the flaw in the Welfare Lottery "3D" system in 2005 that let a person buy tickets with the right numbers within five minutes of their being announced, sources at the Intermediate People's Court in Anshan, northeastern Heilongjiang province, said.
Zhao, 36, who ran three lottery stalls in Anshan, "bought" the announced numbers many times over.
"He asked his neighbors and friends to cash the tickets at the Welfare Lottery Center and to bring back the money," Xinhua quoted the court sources as saying.
The lottery center found the prizes were illegally claimed and police arrested Zhao in January.
The court jailed him for life for fraud and confiscated all his property.
No word on whether or not his neighbors and friends were arrested as accomplices, but we're betting dollars to yuan they're not getting off scott free.
QUICK! Somebody get Bond, James Bond. We have a misson for him. He has to go to China and bring that guy here to fight our corrupt computerized lottery czars and get me a lot of cash!
I'm surprised there would be such a flaw. I know that I get locked out of the games in FL about 15 or 30 minutes before the actual drawing because, if I go to a terminal during that short period, the tickets will print for the next draw.
He got too greedy. 3 millions is alot of money in china. Its like winning 20 million in the states. I hope they also get his friends that helped him.

Actually, I think that's a Japanese thing, not Chinese.
No,its Chinese. The Chinese minister of food committed suicide because he wasn't doing a good job.He let a lot of bad food get shipped out of country.Or so I read somewhere, recently.

Zheng Xiaoyu (former head of the State Food and Drug Administration) was sentenced to death in May (2007) for taking bribes to approve an antibiotic blamed for at least 10 deaths and other substandard medicines. He was executed in July.

I'm a FIRM believer in the death penalty. If a person takes a bribe to turn a blind eye that results in ten deaths, then the buck stops with him.If Chinese law says he must die for his crime,I concur.

There are no human rights in China. We treat livestock better, but not according to my vegetarian friends.
Vegetarians are the only protesters against cruel and inhumane treatment of livestock. The HFA (Humane Farming Association) isn't against farming, just factory farming and animal abuse. Treating animals well is also good for our health. All those antibiotics and other chemicals they pump into those poor animals in those torture chambers & slaughterhouses is bad for the humans who eventually ingest them.
I hate to write this, because I am a big supporter of Human Rights, but maybe our prison system is too lenient? It just seems to me that, since an awful lot of convicts re-offend, they obviously weren't scared enough the first time.

There is no deterrent to a crime for which the person committing it "won't get caught".
The Chinese minister of Food could have committed suicide by eating one of their own products or playing with certain beads. I didn't even know they HAD a Lottery in China (called the Welfare??? Lottery, sounds like something the govt. here would try) I don't get how their drawings operate, how do you put in the #s "before" they are announced, somehow he knew what came out before they put it on the Telescreens?

i would think about this when you drink a glass of milk in the states. there was a report w5 ( a canadian investigative news show) about how almost all of the rest of the world is telling the usda to stop using whatever the us gives to the milk cows. its either hormones or steroids(i cant remember which) because all of these other countries have done studies that show it is cancer causing for humans to drink that milk. i guess the farmer who can boost his milk production by 10 times doesn t really care though. i can see why the us( with its huge population) needs more food but do they really need to force some cancer into you too? just thought i would share this in case some of you didn t know. the show had a real concern for this as well as the fact that americans weren t being told about this, so they hoped airing the info in canada would somehow get it to american public. so contact your congressmen and let them know you dont want to drink cancer.
He was lucky, I thought the penalty for fraud in China was death.
He will probably end up committing suicide. The Chinese believe that if you dishonor yourself you are supposed to kill yourself.

(Before anyone goes into shock, just a joke)

(those people in the photo look awfully cold!)
You gotta have brass cajones to do this kind of thing in China.
They check soon-to-be-dead prisoners for usable parts.
He shoulda quit at $3 mil.
Actually, I think that's a Japanese thing, not Chinese.
I agree! That guy coulda been on easy street for life, if not for tremendous greed.

I would picked Death Penalty rather than life in Jail. I heard Chinese prison were 10 times worse than American jails.

I saw a video showing how various livestock were raised. Not pretty.
only thing that could be worse about the prison system in china is that they have forced labor.u probably have to worry
more about dropping the soap in the usa.i dont care what country i would be in,i would choose death over life in prison.
cannot and will not live my life caged up like an animal.

Re: China, Japan, honor, suicides, etc...
Don't forget at one time it was all China.
I should stop posting! Again, I made a typo that changes the entire sentence. I meant to write
"Vegetarians are not the only protesters against cruel and inhumane treatment of livestock." grrr.
wonder they didn't cut both his hands off and then give him life in prison!!
Ya can't work in the sweatshop with no hands!
does anyone know or heard of the new manny's new system?i heard it's really great and more precise than any of the steve player systems
