Gloria Aguda was on the verge of losing her home to foreclosure and couldn't afford a trip to the doctor. Depressed, the 50-year-old Fountain resident prayed for help. Last week those prayers were answered when she matched all six numbers in the Colorado Lotto drawing for a $9 million jackpot.
"My heart was pounding so bad," said Aguda, a single mother of two adult sons who has worked two jobs to support her family.
The family struggled to make ends meet as Aguda also studied to become a medical assistant. "My kids have worked so hard to save the house," a tearful Aguda said in a statement released by the Colorado Lottery.
She plans to pay off the mortgage on her home and other bills with the cash lump sum of $4.5 million she opted for, Colorado Lottery officials said.
Aguda also will provide financial support for her extended family, including a partially blind brother who lives in her native Philippines. The money will also allow Aguda's sons to finish college and pay off school loans.
She purchased the winning Lotto ticket from the Safeway at 6925 Mesa Ridge Road in Fountain. The store will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, Lotto officials said.

I thank God, that woman won. I wish God had answered my prayers when I needed to win the lottery to get my mother a new liver and my brother a bone marrow transplant but in his wisdom he left me alone so I could spend everything my family had for hospitalization but no transplants and funerals for the two of them. Jesus loves me cause the bible tells me so. God bless.

I just wrote something similar (not quite as strong!) in the mystical forum when someone posted about dreams and being able to see the future. I think prayer helps us to focus, gives us guidance, and can also be healing, but I don't think God makes those decisions either. He leaves all that crazy stuff to us humans. There have also been articles about drug dealers and convicted sex offenders who win the lottery.
Still, it's a nice story.
(I also lost my Mom when she was 74 due to liver failure.)
I have to jump in here, sorry if I sound negative or pessimistic, because I am actually an optimist yet I always have to respond when I see millions of people making an error when it comes to how The Creator of heaven and earth works.

I don't recall God ever being a lottery player? When did this occur? When in history did this event occur. The God who instucts us not to gamble is now gambling through his people! OKay! Sure!
2ND if God was really behind people winning the lottery, then if makes more sense to have the lady receive donations from her church if the people where she attends church had a heart! God has never in all of scripture ever laid out one instance where he instructs people to gamble for money, in fact just the opposite! God hates GREED! I always love non-sense stories like this, Its absolutely beyond ridiculous to believe or trust that The ALMIGHTY CREATOR somehow had anything to do with this woman winning! Or singled out this woman, felt for her, decided in his infinite power and wisdom to let her win the lottery.

You have to remember that there is Good and Evil.....Just an example for you: I work in a hospital ICU for children and parents pray to God all the time for their child's recovery...One of our patient's did get better with God's help..let's face it, he guided the surgeon's skilled hand because mistakes happen. Well this child went out with friends was killed....Would you say God did it to him.....I THINK NOT!! Satan is always waiting in the shadows to undo what God has done. Like I said in the beginning, people are entitled to their own opinion...

Perhaps God intervened on her behalf because he knew she was in trouble and needed help in a way than most of us may not understand.
