  I presently have Norton 08, and have access to McAfee, (came with the computer). I'm really not impressed with either one of these packages.

  Any suggestions on a better protection package?

  Try threatfire.com..

  Had both of the others and wasn't overly impressed myself. Threatfire has done a great job for me..!

  Trend Micro does an excellent job... much better than the McAffee I used to use.

  i try to use te free ones and i can say for sure the mcaffe internnet security center works very well trend works great to but cost to much if your interested i have a link for the mcaffee...............jmill

  Try Norton 360, version 2.0; It's expensive, but it covers everything. You won't be disappointed. I'm not!

  Tests I have read do not confirm that ZA is the best firewall protection.  I like ZA, free version and used to use it.

  Here is the best firewall...the $40 one was
  tested by a guy that tested them ALL. 

  There is also a free version for the XP, just

  about as good as the pay version.

  I use AVG 8.0, Ad-Aware and SpywareBlaster on my old computer and my new computer. So far it has worked great and I haven't had any problems with viruses or spyware. *knock on wood*

  I used to have Norton and McAfee and found they were resource hogs.  I use AVG 8.0 which is free.   Zone Alarm has a free download if you want additional firewall protection. 

  Note:  I'm not a techie. 

   

  (I was typing, so I didn't see Scary's post.  I've been using AVG for years too.  Now I see True Critic's post.  Oh, well.  That's what happens when you start a post, make a cup of coffee and come back to it.  lol)

  I use AVG 8.0 free version and COMODO firewall. I was using ZA Security Suite full version before and was very satisfied with it, but now that I got the 64 bit version of Windows XP installed I can't use it anymore. The 64 bit Windows XP version is much more stable than the 32 bit version by the way.

  I was using AVG and loved it, but switched to Avast free edition and I think it's great. My main reason for switching was that with the newest "free" version of AVG (version 8.0), the automatic scanning of email for viruses was discontinued (my understanding). Anyone here who is currently using the newest free version of 8.0, I would appreciate it if you could confirm this.

  The email scanner is still working the way it should.
