Thursday morning I went to the Lottery district office for the first time. It was the last day of a promotion the FLA Lottery was having where for every $10 you spent you got a chance to play a Plinko board for prizes. The place is similar to any other govt. office in that you take a number then sit down and wait, sometimes for hours. What's different, of course, is that everybody there has that glint in the eye, or I should say, $ signs.

It was the first time I'd been in a place with nothing but lottery players, as opposed to a gas station or supermarket with their cranky clerks who are always rushing you. This was just like being at an LP mixer. One guy had a $1 str8 Cash4 winner from the night before(6915). Another guy had a winning $20 scratch-off, and others were just there to play. And boy were they players. I saw three people in a row go up to the window and drop anywhere from $200 to $400 on scratch-offs and online games, and not even blink. And I could tell these were seasoned professionals by the way they ordered. No hesitation here. I felt like a wimp with my little $20 raffle ticket!

The only time I've seen an all lottery payer gathering is at the state fair at the lottery tent.

As for playing $1 or $20 or $200-$400, a guy in our casino used to sy "Everyone bets the same amount, not the same money amount, but the amount it takes to give them a thrill."

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any. So many systems, so many theories, so few jackpot winners.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Remind me of lottery booth at the Taste of Chicago this year where they had a promotion where if you spent $30 or so, you get to spin the wheel for prizes. Top prize was $250. Didn't do it because with the wife at time but maybe next year.

That is a excellent idea--I wish the CA Lottery would do that--it would attract a lot of new lottery players into the mix!! And you were not a wimp with $20.00; next time you may have more to money to play with--GOOD LUCK TO YOU

They oughta put a bar in those places. Maybe a dance floor too.

Betcha they'd sell a lot more tickets.

I don't know about Florida but us hillbillies in Tennessee would love it.
