Powerball

Big win comes just two months after game goes on sale in state

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ohio has a $261.6 million Powerball winner less than two months after the state joined the multi-state lottery game.

The Ohio Lottery says the only winning ticket matching all six numbers in Wednesday night's drawing was sold at a store in Sunbury, about 20 miles north of Columbus in central Ohio.

Lottery officials planned to present the Hub Carry Out & Deli with a check for $100,000 Thursday morning for selling the winning ticket. Clerk Rose Ong says it's a "wonderful" feeling and says the store doesn't know who the winner is.

The drawing's winning numbers were 4, 9, 14, 39, and 43.  The Powerball number was 38, and the Power Play multiplier was 4.

In addition to the Ohio jackpot winner, 13 lucky players across the United States matched the first 5 numbers for a $200,000 prize:  4 from Florida (1 with Power Play), 1 from Illinois, 1 from Iowa, 1 from Kentucky, 1 from Massachusetts, 1 from North Carolina (with Power Play), 1 from South Carolina (with Power Play), 2 from Tennessee, and 1 from Texas.

The three second-prize winners from Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina who purchased the Power Play option will each receive a $1 million prize.

Ohio retailers sold their very first Powerball tickets April 16.

Powerball is played in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

More information about Powerball, as well as drawings and news, can be found at USA Mega (www.usamega.com).

I'm from mid-Ohio not central Ohio.  Mid-Ohio area is up near Mansfield, home of the Mid-Ohio race track.  Besides, all the combinations I pick to play have at least one WB number from the previous 13 drawings, that will no longer be true about my future picks.

Congratulations to the winner in Ohio who won $261.6 million. We must always be happy for those who won any amount in the lottery. I say this because we don't know the struggles they've been through. Personally I don't believe in such thing as luck. However I do believe in perfect timing. In other words people when it's your time to win then that moment will happen to you when least expected. Think about it do you honestly believe the winner in Ohio was lucky to won that much money. I absolutely believe that was his or her time time to win the Powerball Jackpot. Again congratulations to the winner who won the Powerball Jackpot and I hope this person find the right Legal Advisors to help him or her invest the winnings properly for a brighter future. Also if you are someone who gets jealous when someone win always consider they might just won for a reason and maybe their lives needed it to help charities, family and friends. Don't worry my fellow lottery players your perfect timing is right around the corner and know that it will happen.

I hope this jackpot will enrich many lives. That said, I live in SW Ohio. I am happy it was Ohio. We need the money. People tell me it is stupid to play the lottery but you have to have one ticket to win. I wish I had won a big jackpot when my brother and mother needed a bone marrow transplant and liver transplant at the same time. I didn't have enough money for the transplants and I lost them both. I went bankrupt paying medical bills. I have type 1 diabetes, MS, hepatitis B and a few other problems related to autoimmune disorder. I work as many hours as my employer will give me and I've worked back into good standing creditwise. My entire family was poisoned by a nuclear enrichment plant Fernald and a toxic waste dump where they poured carbon tetrachloride in the water. No one has come out and said here is compensation for being poisoned by greedy, uncaring people. The class action lawsuit missed my house by 10 ft although I spent all my school years within the death zone. I just wish it was my time to win the lottery. I'm not bitter, life happens but I miss my family whose lives were cut short and for a few hundred thousand dollars maybe we could still be together, happy and a little healthier. Now I hope to win to go to the doctor. I don't have health insurance and I could use treatment myself.

RJOh,

Hope you get a big win in your future.

Congrats to the big winner. It would be so cool to have a LP member win but I suppose many of the ones from OH would know to claim anonymously.

I rode a 3 spd bicycle from Cincy to Cleveland and back. I had to walk one hill in each direction. On the way up that hill was in Mansfield (Rte 42).

I hope that's how it works, that way Texas will win the Powerball shortly. We've had it for about 4 months now, hopefully they choose my numbers to win.

Congratulations to the winner(s) though, maybe tomorrow I can be as lucky.

Ohioans were winning PB jackpots long before PB tickets were available in Ohio.  Remember the machinists (lucky 13) from Columbus a few years back and the GM worker from Dayton a couple of years back.  It shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that they would continue to win once PB tickets became available locally.  Ohioans have alway bought a lot PB tickets which is the reason Ohioans have won PB jackpots.  Now that tickets are available locally, they will be buying even more and winning more.
