N.C. man wins $90,800 in Pick 4 lottery drawing

Virginia Lottery

Fourth major lottery prize hit by playing 20 tickets with same number

"It's been a good number for me."

That remark by Steven Granger of Henderson, North Carolina, may be the understatement of the year.

He selected the number combination 5-1-1-7 on 20 tickets in the Virginia Lottery's May 22 Pick 4 day drawing, and they all won.  Each of his "exact order" tickets won $5,000 and each of the "50/50" tickets won $2,700, for a grand total of $90,800.

That would be amazing enough, but it's only part of the story.  Even more astonishing is the fact that Mr. Granger has done this twice before in Pick 4 and once in Cash 5.

On April 12, 2009, he won $90,800 when 5-1-1-7 was drawn and on May 10, 2009, he won $65,800 with that same combination. On September 28, 2005, he won $900,000 with nine winning Cash 5 tickets.

"I just play for fun," he said as he claimed his latest prize. "It's kind of a hobby. I've been really lucky."

However, now he has a problem. He's running out of wall space to hang all of the over-sized winner checks he has collected from the Virginia Lottery.

Mr. Granger, who works in real estate, bought all of his winning tickets at his favorite store: Bracey Mini Mart, 3230 Highway 903 in Bracey, Virginia.

Pick 4 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The chances of matching all four numbers in exact order are 1 in 10,000.

Great wins! Especially the Cash 5...wow!

I'm going to try his style for awhile with 1009 in PA.

He must spend a fortune on lottery tickets every month. But with his kind of winnings, I'd do the same :-)

won on the same number....As much as i dont like to say that i believe in psychics, the guy must be a psychic or have psychic properties....lottery ballistics will tell if he is displaying psychic properties...

This is incredible!!  I wonder if he spends that much money on every drawing?  Congrats to him.

Good eye coolmoney, I had not even noticed that he won in VA.

Based on his spending habits of $20 a draw, I bet he only plays his numbers when a Double is due or when certain digits are due. No way he would play every draw. Thats common sense. I might play like this for $5-$10 dollars a draw when ever I feel my numbers are due etc.

Why could'nt he play that amount everyday, $20.00 a draw, two draws a day/eve x 365 days of the year would cost $14,600.00

He won $90,800.00 - $14,600.00 = $76,200.00 gain over cost before taxes. He would pay taxes on the $76,200.00 since you are allowed to deduct gambling losses as long as they don't exceed gambling profits.

Not a bad hobby as far as I am concerned.

I would say Mr Granger could sell his picks if he so desired!!

Wow....Way to go!        I love this line ....   However, now he has a problem. He's running out of wall space to hang all of the over-sized winner checks he has collected from the Virginia Lottery.    Someday I hope to have that problem!  LOLBig Smile

Perhaps we could entice him to join Lottory Post and give us the benefit of this thinking.  If someone knows this gentleman, an invite to join would not be out of bounds.

Meanwhile, I have a few questions.  Has long has he played?  If he has been playing for, say ten years, using his algorithym, then he has spent $146,000 dollars to win $90,800.  If this was he first start out of the lotto box, then way to go!  I believe he is ahead of the game at this point but that is just me.

Also, he had wagered two ways: straight and any two.  Did this not double his wager?

I see he also collected on their P5 game to the tune of $900,000.  Now that is a sizeable chunk of change.  Did he use an algorithym to win that, too?  If so, then I would ask him just how does his algorithym work?  What factors does he consider important? Is his P4 algorithym is same as his P5?

When he returns from the French Rivieria we can ask him.  No sense going to the Redneck Rivieria unless he needs tar balls.

Wow, the guy seems to be very lucky. Congrats to him on his wins! Yes Nod

If this guy has a special way of picking his combinations then it's unlikely he would share it since most states have a cap on the numbers of pick3 and pick4 tickets with the same combinations.  He could freeze himself out of playing his numbers by sharing them with others.

We can debate all we can about how much he spent but the bottom line is that he is winning with the same set of numbers frequently, which is more than I can say. VA Lottery seems to have a good number system versus the CA Lottery, which is in my honest opinion, is terrible. Since, I live in CA, I guess I have to be more patience until my Pick 4 numbers eventually hit and they will hit very soon: (0512; 1009; 1117 and 1126) Wink

I Agree!  Lets just congratulate the guy.  He's doing what we all would like to do -- WIN !

If he has psychic properties I might be interested in buying one.

Especially if it's lakefront.

what are lottery ballistics

MADKAT

He has won $90,800 twice and $65,000+ once and cash 5 once.  The 3 pick 4 wins were all on 5117 all within 3 years! So my opinion says hes just started playing like this in VA. But again, we could argue this all day. Nonetheless, amazing!

pumpi76

i was joking....just like crime ballistics in this case is lottery ballistics...After all the lotto is a moving target that you got to shoot...

pumpi76

$9 for VA CAsh5 the same numbers...Not for 50 cents but for $1...Is called: Conviction...But i am not surprise, there are people out there who hold many secrets...

Shoot..if I lived in Henderson which is approx. 20-30 min drive from Bracey, I'd be playing there too.  I love that mini mart there!
