Canada Lotto Max

TORONTO — Canadians will have a shot at the country's largest-ever lottery prize total this Friday — $70 million.

There was no winner in last Friday's Lotto Max draw, so the jackpot remains at the maximum of $50 million.

Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. spokeswoman Sarah Kiriliuk says it will be the fourth time that amount is being offered as a jackpot.

However, she says the number of Maxmillions draws will rise to 20 separate $1 million prizes — up from the five offered last Friday.

That makes a grand total of $70 million in prizes up for grabs.

The Maxmillions draws are triggered when the Lotto Max jackpot hits $50 million.

And how do you get one of those extra million dollar prizes?

I'd go up there and get a ticket but they don't let you carry your guns up there. What the hell kind of country is that?

LOL this is so funny. i had to laugh. "what the hell kind of country" lol

well i know what kind of country it is and it is a nice country to go BUY A LOTTERY TICKET.

i got mine. matter of fact i have 2 tickets and it gives me 6 chances to win this friday. still it is a confusing game and how they come up with the 20 extra million for the extras. i just don't get it. is it like powerball when it gets to a record?

another thing they do is allow for something called an extra. it is an additional cost for the ticket but it you get all the numbers it is worth another 100,000 without winning the jackpot.

oh well keep an eye  out for surrey BC for the million dollar winning ticket. it will be me. oh i can use the lottomax too.

Well it is kind of confusing but it is a lottery that spreads around the winnings.

When the jackpot hits 50 million the first set of numbers drawn apply to that amount.  Any million dollar amount over 50 million then gets it's own set of 7 numbers. So. this Friday there will be one set of numbers drawn for the 50 million dollars, and one or more tickets can share that amount.  Since no one hit the 50 million last Friday the extra money wagered has accrued to 20 million.  There will be 20 sets of 7 numbers drawn and more than one set can win a million dollars.  Each 1 million dollar amount may or may not have a winner or could have multiple winners. Any non winning amount rolls to the next jackpot.

About a month ago here were the results when the jackpot was at 60 million.

One ticket hit for the 50 million.

Five tickets hit for a million.

Two million dollars were shared by two tickets.

The remaining 3 million rolled to the next jackpot.

Therefore 10 tickets won during this drawing, ranging from 500,000 to 50 million and the next jackpot started at 13 million.

I like the concept, if P Ball or Mega capped at 100 million on the first set of numbers, there would be many more people winning on huge jackpots. It would be better if some shared the main jackpot and other dollar amounts rolled down after a set limit.

starchild the extra is called Encore, a 7 digit number that wins anywhere from a free ticket to 1 million dollars.

One thing I like about the Canadian Lotteries is that if you win 50 million you get 50 million tax free, no annuites and taxes come later :)

I kinda like that system except they ought to keep drawing numbers until all the extra millions are awarded.

And they ought to let Americans carry their guns if they're coming up there just to buy a ticket.

I mean what if you're walking to the liquor store to get a lottery ticket and all of a sudden a moose jumps out of the bushes and starts trying to scratch you with his horns?  What are you going to do, throw a hockey puck at him? Stab him with an icicle?

They should let us carry our guns.

Hi starchild, I do go to Ontario quite often as I was born near Niagara Falls and have many relatives there.  Extra seems to be like Encore, but our Encore top prize is 1 million.  I use OLG.CA web site to get my Ontario Lottery information.

Good Luck !!

No, Americans are free to win whatever lottery games they wish.  The issues are:

  • The government's opinion is that it's illegal to do it over the Internet.
  • There are more Internet scams than legitimate official sites.  And the scams can be extremely convincing and professional-looking.  So, if you find a site that offers lotteries online, the chances are pretty good that it's a scam.
  • You can't hide your income from the government (if you want to live here).  These days I'm not even sure about money you win offshore and keep offshore (never bringing any of it into the USA).  They seem to want to tax that too.  (If you think this concept is really bad, then vote the people who increase taxes out of office.  Even people who claim only to "tax the rich".)
  • If you want to play a Canadian game (for example), traveling to Canada and buying a ticket in a store is the best way.  Anything else is risky.

Honesty is the best policy starry. Nobody likes a liar.

You shouldn't be lying to the Border Patrol. That's illegal.

Always tell the truth. You'll like yourself better.

And other people will too once you stop lying all the time.

Also, if you are an U.S.A. Citizen and you win a lottery jackpot from another country, you will probably have to pay county, state, and federal taxes to U.S.A. AND the other country (however, many other countries have no lottery win annuities and taxes)!

Most countries have reciprocal agreements with the USA, so that's probably not the case.  Canada has some of the closest financial ties of any country to the USA.

I think you would basically end up paying a total of the highest amount of taxes charged by either country.  You would pay whatever you owe in Canada first, since that's the source of funds, and you'd pay the balance owed to the USA.

So let's say Canada made you pay $1 million in taxes.  (I'm not sure if there's any taxes to pay in Canada, but just say $1 million for argument's sake.)

When you bring the money into the USA, between Federal and State taxes -- just based on the prize amounts alone -- your total tax bill would be $3 million.

Your total tax bill to both Canada and the USA would be $3 million -- the $1 million paid to Canada, plus $2 million to the USA (you get credit for the $1 million paid to Canada).

Diotallevi

Lottery prizes in Canada are completely tax-free within Canada; so if you are from the US or another country, you'd only be on the hook for the portion that your government would take.
