jimmy4164,
No too awful long ago casinos provided slots for high rollers wives to have something to do while thier husbands were at the tables. That was the thinking back then.
The visionaries in the business kept saying there was a generation coming up that were video game players and guess what they're going to plau when they're old enought to gamble.
One night we had an old time boxman go on break with us (the old timers had great stories) and he spotted three nckel slots that they had tucked away by a bar. Old time "reel" machines, not computerized. These slots had three wheels and nine "stops", like gears, so the odds of a jackpt (which were way smaller then) were 9 X 9 X 9. But you didn't have to win the max prize to make money.
Well when he saw this machine he stopped and said (to the machine), "Hello old friend", thenm he told us, "I made a down payment on a house playing these and it's how I used to pay my mortgage. I didn;t know these downtoen joints still had any."
Then he explained "timing the machine", that is pulling the handle at just the right time. Kind of like a real good safecracker might work.
A couple of guys were skeptics but you could play in this casino (just not table games) on your breaks and this guy was winning $20 - $25 a break in nickels.
Just another reason everything went electronic.
Well, it's now a week since my original post, and we're still not sure whether Pennsylvania's Millionaire Raffle is secure or not. I forgot that LotteryPost serves a broad audience and many here may not be familiar with PA's offerings. Something you should know when judging my skepticism is that PA clearly spells out at their site that the Raffle tickets are retrieved by all the outlets from ONE central server, in SEQUENTIAL order. I leave it up to you to figure out the significance of that fact.
If you would like to consider another possible fraud pulled off by computer programmers for a TV game show, from which you can draw analogies to the above, check this out. Go to wikipedia and in the search box type in michael larson. While reading, see if you find any reference to the engineers who programmed the equipment for the show. I couldn't find any. The reason may be the same one that no one is raising questions about this computerized raffle except me. Most people don't understand what I'm suggesting. Computer programming is a mystery to them. If Michael Larson had been a little smarter, and less larcenous, he may have become a millionaire!

I'm with you, Jimmy. Ya gotta wonder.
I know one thing: Wherever there are large amounts of money, there are people working around the clock figuring out how to get to it surreptitiously.
And if it wasn't for skeptics, some of them might not have been caught already.

Thanks for your input. There doesn't seem to be much interest here in the possibility that what I suggest could be true. I think most folks here are too busy working on betting strategies based solidly in their belief in the Gambler's Fallacy. (Check that out at wiki... (you know where.)) I've spent too much time on this; It's time to get back to work!
