The above was in a state lottery press release.

This is what I like about Australian state lotteries, winners can remain anonymous. I think it is madness for US lotteries to require winners to go public, in many cases it has negative consequences for the winners.

We all get a lot out of lotteries!

Without transparency the whole thing hinges on trust.

If they don't have to tell you who won, they can pretty much let anybody they want win and you wouldn't know the difference.

It's a delicate balance.

The UK and NSW Lotteries are the most reputable lotteries in the world. Both lotteries give winners the option of remaining anonymous, and the vast majority choose to do so. It is not about covering anything up, it is about not putting winners in a difficult position.

These lotteries have many checks and balances to ensure all is above board. With to UK media, especially to ruthless tabloids, the lottery could not get away with anything.

I know they have to disclose your name, city and the location where you purchase the ticket but can you deny press conference or deny having your pictures taken?

Different states have different protocols.

All depends where you live.

i agree with you the reason why they killed Buford Pusser he was to honest and that made him dangerous But I think its ok to release the person name ,but i feel that they should not be force to have a picture took

my brother won a million dollars 20 years ago and they made him take his picture and gave out his name and it was awful for him

he had to change is phone # 4 times but they would still get it and called him all hours of the day and night

he actually got a call from some saying that he went to school with my brother and that my brother had borrow a $5.00 of him and he wanted it back with interested and one time he was in a store some woman was staring at him then all at once she yell out hey everybody that the man that hit the million i wonder what really happen to the big jackpot winners

when i hit the lottery i will check into letting a proxy to claim it

The National Lottery in the United Kingdom can boast the millions of happy winners it’s made over the years since 1994. There are a number of prize levels in the National Lotto, but usually it’s the jackpot winners that get the fame. Since December of 1994 National Lottery winners have a right to their anonymity when a ticket holder was hounded by the media against her wishes.

Irish Lottery

All cash prizes won in National Lottery games are paid out as tax-free lump sums. All prizes in Monday Million, Lotto, All or Nothing, and EuroMillions games must be claimed within 90 days of the applicable drawing dates. No minor under the age of eighteen years may purchase tickets for or claim prizes in any National Lottery game. Winners have the right to remain anonymous.
