How maths can't make you rich and famous

There are various ways that mathematics has been claimed to be able to make you rich and famous and I thought that it would be good to dispose of some of these as quickly as possible. One of the questions that I am frequently asked when people find out that I'm a professional mathematician (apart from "when will you leave?") is "how can I choose my numbers for the National Lottery to maximise my chances of winning?". Unfortunately mathematics is of no great use here as all combinations of numbers are equally likely (or unlikely) to win (a fact not well appreciated by the general public).

The same conclusion, by and large, applies to any form of gambling. The invention of the branch of mathematics now called probability was motivated, in part, by attempts to understand gambling. However, in the long term, all gambling will lead to a loss of hard-earned cash (as the people who own casinos understand probability as well and can adjust the various games so that the odds are in their favour).

A final way not to become rich and famous with mathematics is to win a Nobel prize.There is no Nobel prize in mathematics. The reason for this is that Alfred Nobel, when setting up the prizes (for physics, chemistry, economics, peace, etc.) did not include mathematics because he, quite misguidedly, thought that mathematics had no practical use.

listen to this something you might not know...even though knowing math might not make you win the lottery been proficient in math even if is another profession or job i will not say that 100% but like 90% of the time you earn more than your peers even if is just $750 more a month...everyone knows that...is like a status thing...Globally math is considered the hardest class, class that only geniuses take/will understand even if math is/might not the hardest class...same is with left handed people...

a skinny person earns more than a fat person a man earns more than a woman, white earns more than minorities, i think a tall person earns more than a short person, an ingeneer regardless of the field he studies earns more than its peers, ect, ect and so on...

it might not be the case in the USA, i am not offending the USA, but last time i check soccer comes dead last when it comes to fans in the USA...not all the rules are the same in the USA....the whole world uses kilometers the USA is the only one that uses miles not even England uses miles [not sure i think England uses miles i am not sure]...is one of those things...again i am not offending the USA all i am saying is that sometimes the rules are differents in the USA...

remember, math globally has the same popularity maybe not adherents but the same popularity as: Soccer, Coca-Cola, Sony, the USA, BMW, England, petroleum, Nike, Addidas, the Bible, and so on, ect, ect...

Even though there is no Nobe Prize for Math, Physics is math apply to the elements...think of math as Chemistry and think of Physics as bio-chemistry...think of math as Biology and think of physics as molecular biology...physics is a derivative of math...

if a physicist laugh at a mathematician he/she will be making a fool of himself, he might laugh/mock at the mathematician ignorance maybe...you will be suprise though there are a few phycisist that do...

this is also the trick...In the USA where there is many ways to get rich an ingeneering degree or physicist or math degree will not make you rich what an ingeneer makes is not a lot but in other countries that do not have many ways to get rich and where things are cheap sort of speak an ingeneer or math related fields might be considered someone very affluent/well off/rich to those countries/region/Continent standards...

only in the USA can a singer make: $200 Million dollars in many regions of the world, the most a singer will make is: $20 Million dollars maybe like $40 Million dollars...a $100 Million, maybeeee but in like 40 years of career...

Hello, coin toss, perhaps mathematics won't help
in lotteries, games because if demand close 100% in a single move, a forecast as
if it were an exact, whole time calculator,

But mathematics can help in the games until a certain point in
example 6/49 game, one can predict with confidence of 3 to 4 numbers, the rest
is random ate because can repeat two last dosorteio the three numbers, then the
base of game is this, if you can go up to a certain extent after is random, look
at the example, a player bets one hundred bets will do make 3 and ate 4
numbersmeans, the
random factor will always exist within the game, but also the math factor
(forecast), we have to unite the two extremes <

Just something to think about.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any. So many systems, so many theories, so few jackpot winners.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

I think that the subconscious mind is the most powerful tool in the universe when it comes to random

prediction, learn to use it or fall victim to the odds. The conscious mind tends to try and place order to

everything but the subconscious works on a different level. If the subconscious can't work it out then

feed it more, less complicated data. Math will never slove random but that does not mean that it can't be

a helpful tool.

Grrr I tried to copy and paste....the line "Unfortunately mathematics is of no great use....." It sounds like his mind is made up without even trying.

As for the number of mathematicians winning jackpots.......that's assuming ALL mathematicians actually play the lottery AND use mathematics to choose their numbers.

Just get me thru this so called life......

Finally a member of the CLASS speaks and SPEAKS THE TRUTH..

Math cannot solve RANDOM!!!! There is no constant there to design a formula for and not to mention the lottery has more variables than you can count or keep up with.

I discovered that simple fact many,many,many,many years ago. To solve RANDOM, you have to learn to use RANDOM against itself more or less. You also can think of it this way, what happens if you put a ball of clay in your hand and close your hand, hard and tight? What happens to the ball of clay? It will be forced out through your fingers a little here and a little there. So, what you have to do is to learn how to SQUEEZE RANDOM and force out what you are looking for. For example when I post numbers for SPECIFIC STATE pic 3 games and pic 4 games, that is exactly why I always say, I HAVE TO TAKE WHAT RANDOM GIVES ME.

It will NEVER be what you want to show..it has to do with a plethera of variables that are running from the past and that is what will give you the future!!!!1

Random isn't so good at solving random either. I would NEVER stick to a ridged formula...it has to vary just like the game but I do think math has it's place in the lottery.

Just get me thru this so called life......
