BRAINTREE, Mass. — A lottery winner has come forward in Boston and claimed the $32 million Mega Millions jackpot from the Fri., Aug. 19, 2011 drawing.

The $32 million winner was introduced at a news conference on Tuesday.

The newest multi-millionaire in Massachusetts is a 47-year-old man who lives in Dorchester.

He used to be a record keeper, but has been unemployed ever since he was laid off.

Candido Oliveira bought a single Quick Pick ticket last week for Mega Millions, matching all five numbers for the $32 million jackpot.

"I'm glad somebody in the neighborhood finally won it," said Gary Staples, neighbor. "It's always elsewhere."

"He's a nice guy, very hardworking. I'm happy for him. I wish him the best of luck," said a woman.

The store owner gets $50,000 for selling the winning ticket, and already plans to give most of it away.

"I'm going to pay some bills, I'm going to take care of my employees also and a big portion is going to go back to the community," said Hani El-Shurafa, store owner.

Oliveira says he's been very calm ever since the moment he found out.

"I feel good. The first thing is to take care of my family, my friends...do good things," said Oliveira.

"He actually called me at work and told me the news and I couldn't believe him because he always likes to joke around. I got home and he showed me the ticket," said Edite Monteiro, Oliveira's girlfriend.

Oliveira's girlfriend says she will be quitting her job at the registry.

A single Quick Pick Shocked ?

He must be one of the luckiest person in America. Most people won by buying at least 5 tickets or joining an office pool. He won by buying just one ticket.

Congratulation to the winner. One day, hopefully I could be that lucky Wink

I remember reading the part of one ticket again because I thought it was a mistake.

I know they're looking at us from wherever and shaking their heads with "oh ye of little faith" under their breaths.

Who are they you ask? the lotto gods!

Very nice...he must from either Cape Verde or Brazil.  I am next to win! :D  When I do, I will visit both of those places!

I did find it interesting to read the final two paragraphs of the news article.  Mr. Oliveira won.

Oliveira's girlfriend says she will be quitting her job at the registry.

Unless he has already proposed marriage to her, I think her move might be a bit premature and presumptive.  I can tell you that if I were Mr. Oliveira, I would drop her like a hot rock...unless she looks better than the hottest negra Brazilian model (no not Gisele).  Even then, I would still be cautious...just look to Hollywood and professional sports as to what might happen should you have an undercover gold-digger by your side. SmashMad  But then again, since he has no job, the media was just chomping at the bit to find someone who would break the streak of "I am not going to quit my job just yet just because I won the lottery!"  Now time for my QPs to match the Powerball jackpot.  I might even take a road trip to buy some state lottery tickets...my motto may change to "Will travel to play the lottery"

He is a THRIFTY LOTTERY PLAYER.He knew that A LOTTERY STOP LOSS LIMIT is very important to be a successful lottery player over the long run.He used the following strategy to win

1) PLAY MORE OFTEN FOR LESS LINES. LOTTERY STOP LOSS LIMIT= BUY A SINGLE LINE. https://www.lotterypost.com/thread/234945

LOTTERY STOP LOSS LIMIT= BUY A SINGLE LINE

He no longer has worry about paying bills again, if he does right with the money. Good for him. When we win we are NOT going on television! Illinois says one must do a one time press conference, but I'm sorry, that's ain't happening. Our lawyer will claim it. As much as I would to get that experience of being up there claiming millions, my safety and family's safety is much more important.

Not sure you could get that on. Remember the female pharmacist that won the Mega Millions? She hired professional make up people and showed up for the press confenrence disguised, but she still showed up.

I'm not sure that Illinois allows you to "send in a beard".

This is from the Illinois lottery website FAQ page:

Can I avoid having my name released if I am a winner?

To assure other players that prizes are paid to winners, the Lottery makes public the name, home city and amount won. We will not, however, release the addresses or telephone numbers of winners. Multi-million dollar winners must participate in a one-time news conference, but we'll always respect your wishes of privacy as much as possible.

Kind of contradicts itself, doesn't it?

To assure other players that prizes are paid to winners, the Lottery makes public the name, home city and amount won.......but we'll always respect your wishes of privacy as much as possible.

Congratulations to the winner! I pray him all the best moving forward!

Yes he took it from me.  ah now there's a face to the person that took my money.  i play $6 megaplied the drawing before and my balls were 22 9 & 33 and they came out with 44.  then they give Candido the 22 plus 3 of my white balls from that ticket.  yes it was in line with the 22.  someone hates my gut man. but i'm happy for him.  he's in the same boat as me. i'm so in need of a good turn

corius$1918!

Congratulations to the winner! Good Story.

hopefully they talked about things first, before the girlfriend quits her job. Meaning not just a marriage proposal but a wedding at the justice of peace, then set a date for the real wedding how many months they need to plan their wedding, without spending a fortune on one day.

She clearly is not a goldigger since she's with him through the rough period of his being unemployed!

I just bought 5 dollars worth of QPs for this Wednesday's PB. It really doesn't matter, but I always buy more than one ticket when the JP is high.  It's a stupid habit, but in reality, you can buy 20 tickets and still do not win. You can go to ten different stores and still lose.

What a nice story! Now my turn please!

He said didn't even have to check the tickiet because he knew in his heart that he was the winner. I can feel the same way today, and I'm guessing those 6 numbers will not match.Green laugh
