  Hello All,

  This is a question about Mega Millions (a multi-state lottery game).   The current matrix / format of this game is that of Pick 5 numbers from 56 numbers and Pick 1 Mega Ball number from 46 numbers.

   

  What I want to know is when was the exact date of the very first drawing of this game in this current format?   As far as I can determine from researching and googling for this information, the very first drawing in this format took place in approximately June of 2005. I cannot find any more precise information than that.

   

  I have already asked this question by e mail to the folks at the lottery commission in the state I live in and they never answered my question.   Here is the actual response from the e mail reply:

   

  "Massachusetts officially entered a multistate lottery on August 9, 1996 in a super-jackpot game called The Big Game, eventually changing its name to Mega Millions on June 22, 2005."

   

  I need the exact date of the first drawing in the 5 / 56 + 1 / 46 format. If anyone out there would know the answer and can tell me I would appreciate it very much.

  History Of The Game

  Mega Millions, the game that holds the record for the largest jackpot in North American history, began on August 31, 1996 as the Big Game. The first drawing took place on September 6, 1996, with six states participating: Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan and Virginia.

  After exciting growth of the game in 1997, a Tuesday drawing was added in February 1998. Players were given a larger choice of numbers and a "cash payout" option in January 1999. In May 1999, New Jersey became the seventh member state.

  In May 2002, the multi-state game was given the new name of "Mega Millions," New York and Ohio became member states, and the game matrix and prize amounts were changed to offer players more excitement.

  In September 2002, Washington became the 10th member state, followed by Texas in December 2003. In June 2005, California became the 12th member, solidifying Mega Millions as the country's most widely played multi-state jackpot game.

  On March 6, 2007, Mega Millions again made history with a jackpot of $390 million - setting the record for the largest jackpot in North America.

  On January 31, 2010, 23 more state lotteries joined Mega Millions as an historic cross-selling agreement between Mega Millions and Powerball went into effect. With additional lotteries joining since then, Mega Millions is now played in 43 jurisdictions: 41 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

  I think you get 10,000 plus the  P.B. and with out the powerball you get $100.00 for 4.
