$363 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot raised due to heavy sales

Mega Millions

By Todd Northrop

Mega Millions lottery players across the United States are pulling out the stops for the Tuesday evening drawing, which now stands as the largest Mega Millions grand prize in more than a year.

The estimated jackpot of the March 27, 2012, Mega Millions drawing was raised Monday from $356 million to $363 million because of heavier than expected sales in all Mega Millions states.

Likewise, the lump-sum cash value of the massive grand prize was raised to $259.8 million, an increase of $4.7 million from the initial estimate made early Saturday morning.

In fact, one could argue that the Tuesday Mega Millions jackpot is the largest in history, due to the fact that the cash value is higher than any other lottery drawing ... ever.

Lottery players seeking to check the winning numbers Tuesday night are urged to use USA Mega (www.usamega.com).  State lottery Web sites are normally brought to a standstill during busy periods, while USA Mega normally remains responsive.

Mega Millions drawing results will be posted immediately after the 11:00 pm drawing at USA Mega.   The number of winners and new jackpot will be announced after all participating Mega Millions states have reported their data, which normally occurs within a couple of hours after the drawing.

Tickets will remain on sale typically until 10:45 pm Eastern Time on Tuesday, although players should check with a lottery retailer in their state for the exact sales cutoff time.  Players are advised not to wait until the last minute.

If the jackpot is not won on Tuesday, the Friday jackpot will certainly become the largest lottery jackpot in history — for both its annuity and cash values.

The odds of winning the jackpot are approximately 1 in 176 million. The odds of winning any of the Mega Millions prizes are approximately 1 in 40.

Mega Millions features nine different prize levels, ranging from $2 all the way up to the jackpot.  Players can win even if they just match one number — the Mega Ball number.

All states except California also offer the Megaplier option for an extra dollar per ticket purchased.  The Megaplier multiplies any non-jackpot prizes won by 2, 3, or 4 times, depending on the Megaplier number drawn that evening.

Players who purchase the Megaplier and win second prize will automatically have their prize increased by 4x to $1 million.

I hope $363m will roll on 1-2 times more for the new World Record, before it hits my own tickets or my friends tickets or office pool,

in either case I do assume to receive a sizeable gift or small share as minimum, as my friends do. Anything else would be a dissapointment

but not getting anything would not end friendships that easily. Now it is very easy to say. Getting some money do change people they say...

From All Movie Guide:

Marlon Brando  was quite simply one of the most celebrated and influential screen and stage actors of the postwar era; he rewrote the rules of performing, and nothing was ever the same again.

Brooding, lusty, and intense, his greatest contribution was popularizing Method acting, a highly interpretive performance style which brought unforeseen dimensions of power and depth to the craft; in comparison,

most other screen icons appeared shallow, even a little silly. A combative and often contradictory man, Brando  refused to play by the rules of the Hollywood game, openly expressing his loathing for the film industry

and for the very nature of celebrity, yet often exploiting his fame to bring attention to political causes and later accepting any role offered him as long as the price was right. He is one of the screen's greatest enigmas,

and there will never be another quite like him.

---Brando was also an activist, supporting many issues, notably the African-American Civil Rights Movement and various American Indian Movements---

A wire transfer is immediate, but the process of when they transfer the money is subject to the State verification process where the ticket is purchased.

I am prepared to ask for about $2,000,000 in advance of the balance being transferred after the 4 to 6 six weeks that it takes in Pennsylvania. I believe that this has happened before. I need money for the grand escape to safety!

I'll be happy to volunteer for that "ruined life," also.  The nearly 20 relatives who would benefit from my gifts and final estate will, I suspect, be happy to volunteer, as well.  And the charities that would benefit would be ecstatic.  But I'll settle for "just" half or a third of the jackpot, should there be multiple winners.

Think I'd have to go with the Annuity on this one... $1.2 Million Per Month for the next 25 years sounds good enough for me to do just that!

Good for you, I hope you win... that is, if I don't win instead.  Thumbs Up

There are many people here who will swear up and down that only a fool would take the annuity, blah blah blah taxes blah blah Obama sucks blah blah, but what they always forget is that once you win, it's your money to do with as you please.  As for me, there might be a situation where I'd prefer the lump sum, but most of the time it seems like the annuity would be good enough for me.

Good luck, everyone, no matter what you plan to do with your winnings!  Cheers

Here in Central Florida decent 3 bedroom/2 bath homes rent for $1,200 per month and can be bought for around $125,000.  I'd put $100,000,000 into single family homes....so I'd have roughly 800 free and clear homes generating approximately $960,000 per month in income.  Lots of depreciation and tax write offs to boot.  Guess I'd need to own my own Property Management Company to manage them all, LOL!!!  No problem....bring it on....

Hire management staff ???  more headaches, more lawyers, more agreements to sign then what I want,...what if that staff does a poor job or  goes out of business, then you have to hire a new one.......neeeeehhhh.....requires too many people and more expenses for my tastes..wanna keep it simple, atty for legal advice, financial advisor for investments and a CPA for taxes.....but for those that want the real estate life style ?? Realistically all you really need to win is $3 million to $10 million free and clear to retire and live a pretty great life. You can have a very nice home, cars, boat and other stuff and have enough money left over to live off the interest. I really never wanted to win these gigantic jackpots, my gut feeling is that they probably create a lot more problems than if you won something smaller.

And for the person that wanted to buy hundreds of rental houses, don't do it. I have owned rental properties and it is just a headache. I can only imagine 800 people trying to figure out a way to sue you and get at your money. If you win, buy a boat and live off your interest, hell live off your cash, you don't need the stress.

I worked hard for 40 years and now I'm retired and don't like the idea of working anymore.I'll buy a Powerhouse Motor Coach and travel around America.I don't have any desire to travel the world, though, because people talk funny in most of the countrys of the world.I speak American english and thats good enough for me.The British and the Aussies speak the Queens English and I can't understand a thing they say.I don't smoke, drink or do drugs,so I won't be pissing money away for that kind of nonsense.I do have one vice, though.I love custom cars.I can see myself buying a few of them.A nice 49 Merc would be my first choice.A 34 Ford sedan would be my second choice.I wouldn't give a nickle for any Chevy or Chrysler product, though. They build ugly cars, always have. And japenese junk is out of the question, even those cars that are built here in America because the profit still ends up in Japan.I wouldn't have a Rolls or a Bently if you paid me to take it.U-G-L-Y!I hate newer cars because somewhere along the line somebody in Detroit decided that everyone loves the euro design and now 95% of the cars that they build look just like the next one.I call them cookie cutter cars.if you want a car with only 2 doors you have to settle for a sub compact or a used Monte Carlo. Some college educated idiot decided that Americans all want 4 doors on their cars.I know millions of street rodders that would disagree with him.But I digress.I would travel the roads & scenic byways of America peaking into every nook & cranny of the greatest country on earth.I'd take my time and not get into hurry.Thats what I'd do if I win this huge jackpot.Your mileage may vary.

I would buy some property for myself, but not rental property.  Stocks are a better and easier investment in my opinion.  I'd quit my job and work as an investor of my own money.

I'd probably also legally change my name some time after claiming to try to avoid some of the inevitable harassment.  Sure, that's public record but it would make you a little harder to find.  Hired security for myself and my home could also be afforded if necessary.

Hi CollegeLad08!  I played my first lottery in college - and won! Okay, it was only $120-ish, but that's still the most I have ever won after playing for decades since.

My advice? Play less than $10 a week. All you need is one ticket in order to win. Save the rest for books - or for when the jackpot gets bigger and you want more than 1 ticket.

Great plan CDanaT. I like that one. While the younger generation keeps the businesses running, I could be managing the investments (managing the investment advisors more like), taking classes at the local university, traveling, perfecting my shooting skills, horse showing (the outside of a horse is good for the inside of (wo)men - W Churchill), working with animal rescues, etc. There is plenty to do that does not involve drugs and partying. I'd like to take dance lessons, maybe even piano lessons. The options are limitless if you think about it.

Everyone has a different definition of "financial freedom." To some it means buying a nice house and car. To others it means never having to work again. You'd be surprised what it means to some individuals. Some poeple would like to just go to concerts, go shopping for clothing, go to the movies, try new restaurants, provide for their children and grandchildren, have a nice wedding, etc. You'd be surprised what people aren't able to do because of financial obligations. Imagine the little things that you don't get to buy or experience because of financial restrictions.  You'd be able to do those things if you win the lottery.

There's so much of this world to see. If you like traveling, you won't have time to sit around or do drugs.  There's no way that someone has experienced all the great things that this planet has to offer. Even if you aren't into philanthropy and living in your purpose, traveling and seeing people from all walks of life will definitely spark something in your heart and mind that will lead you in the right direction.

Good luck to all!Smile

travel to every state,  since I don't drink or smoke or do drugs, I would work on hobbies, try new activities, visit family and friends, workout a couple of hrs each day....do some volunteer work at a VET or seniors center, go to concerts,.....You need no organized plan to enjoy life...you can choose whatever,whenever...after all, whatever the winner does, isn't up to anyone's scrutiny except themselves.....The winner is financially free already...

whats stopping u from doing that right now?

What you gonna do, sit around and watch the intrest accrue?  Drink/smoke/snort yourself into oblivion?  Whats your plan???....you can't just sit on the beach all day everyday....this is about true financial freedom...working and having a purpose is important.  Idle minds are not healthy.  What's your plan???

I could make sure my kids went to the best schools... and definitely the best colleges... my mom could have anything she wanted.. afterall she's sacrificed so much for me... id love to travel and be more cultured.. my kids and some family as well... when i do get married i can have the wedding and honeymoon of my dreams!! my best friend has a child w disabilities and a husband in the army... i could buy them a house and make sure he has the developmental tools he needs... i could donate to the hospital that really helped my son at birth... his medicine alone is $2000 a month.. there's so unbelievably much one could do with this amount of money.. so many people i could help... while i won't blow thru the money... im a firm believer in karma and helping people if im able... even little things like paying for somebody's meal or giving a server an extra generous tip...

Well, Faber, I didn't win Ohio Classic, so I'm taking the chance on my life getting ruined.Wink

All kidding aside, in some ways I completely get what you're saying. And I believe there have been a few large jackpots historically gone unclaimed because people realized they won and knew they couldn't handle it. And those jackpots were nowhere close to this one.

Still, there's so much good that can come out of this windfall. One (and I would) could easily give half away to charity, family, friends. Set up dozens of college scholarships. Donate to churches, school districts, libraries, and upgrade facilities there. One of the best stories I recall was a recent West Virginia winner (no, not Jack Whitaker, although he donated alot as well despite his personal tomfoolery) who bought the town he lived all new fire and police vehicles, equipment and the like.

Faber, you could have a school building, library, stadium with your name on it, built because of your generosity. That'd be worth a helluva lot, I'd think.

Um, see my above comment to Faber. I'd give plenty of it away and in the process create employment. It's not a judgement, it's an opinion.

Masone

With this type of money, it would be all about doing the things that I deem fun, the things I have always wanted to do. I've always wanted to develop a video game. I've been writing a screenplay for the longest, and I either want it made into a video game or a TV series.

Investing into stocks and all that is a big no-no for me. I just won 170 million dollars(after taxes), I can easily put that money in the bank and make millions upon millions a year in interest. I have no interest in becoming a billionaire just for the sake of it. If it's something that happens with my video game series or tv series taking off, then so be it, but it wouldn't be about the money.

Also I would do everything in my power to get my favorite tv show back on the air. I absolutely hate it when networks cancel my favorite shows!

Sounds judgemental to me.

Good for you wanting to give it all away like that. But IMHO giving money away does not create jobs. Give a man a fish, he'll eat for the day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll eat for life. Not judging you, but giving my opinion.

It was a response in agreement to what a member said, who was in agreement with another member. Basically that renting was a headache and if you had this kind of money, who needs that kind of headache. An opinion. Let's put the drama to rest, shall we?

And I didn't say I'd give it ALL away, but I could give a helluva lot away, in a manner that would directly benefit people. If someone is building a facility for a town or a school that needs, it, that's not contributing to employment in that community?

faber98, the net cash payout after taxes would be roughly 170 million while that is a substantial amount of money it's still less than half of the 363 million jackpot. I believe we are well equipped to handle it. Unlike what the far left and this current administration wants you to believe not everyone in the financial field is crooked.

Many of the "unscrupulous people" you referred to are dear friends of ours and the majority of them are loyal and honest while having the utmost integrity. My husband traded futures and commodities at the CME for over 15 years and is a former partner of a successful hedge fund with over a billion under management so yes I KNOW he is more than qualified if we were to win.

Odds are we won't win anything as usual but we will continue to enjoy life. BTW, we already have a sizeable investment portfolio, both our homes are paid off and we have no debt.

The next time you assert that someone has no concept on the value of a large jackpot or are ill equipped to handle it, I suggest you know a little more about them prior.

I cannot say, but I won't go too overboard. Oh, I will spend, but not too out of control. I don't want homes. I just want an apartment over looking the skyline. My parents just want two beautiful homes.  They say one here and one in Texas. I just want two cars or maybe three. Those Maybachs are really nice.  I love jewelry, but not all the jewelry I like cost an arm and a leg. I like electronics, but I don't need every last one. I would be lying if I say I don't love stuff. I have a lot of stuff now, but I'm going to try not to be buried in stuff. I like to collect snow globes, so I'm going to buy them from all over the world. I have few inventions I want to test out too. My stepdad wants to start a company selling his famous potato salad.

One thing for sure, for whoever wins tonight, however-many people win tonight.

This isn't money anybody has earned, generated from working and sweating 12-15 hour days, using their skills and talents, to build a business, a financial portfolio, security for their loved ones.

It's a windfall that dropped from the heavens above, crashed through their roof, and plopped down in their living room. It's the giant sack of cash that fell outta the Brinks truck taking the corner too fast by your house, rolled up your driveway, and landed on your front steps. It's your filthy-rich great-uncle Grover, the one who lived three time zones away and you've maybe met twice (you don't remember either time)---dying---and when they opened the Will your name was somehow at the top.

It's literally a gift of miraculously good-fortune. Hopefully the winner or winners treat it as such, look around the community where they live now or where they grew up or both---at their families, friends, neighbors, churches, businesses, schools---and lend a helping hand where that help is needed most.

If you were fortunate enough to win, taking the annuity wouldn't be too wise considering the rate of return is roughly 1.5% paid out over 26 years. Not only that, but the top Federal tax rate may never be this low again(35%) especially with the spiraling national debt and the out of control government spending. You may very well be looking at a top tier tax rate in the 60-70% range by the time your entire annuity is disbursed.

If you take the lump sum and invest wisely, you could grow your principal way beyond what the annuity value is today...it would only take an ROI with a minimum of 2% to be ahead. I am sure any competent investor/money manager could get you returns  that are several percentntage points higher. Not only would you grow your principal but you would enrich the lives of future generations and those you care most as well as any charity of your choice.

Have to agree with you 100% Jill...........There are folks on here that just think the annuity is a better deal....lol.....Maybe for them and their spending habits it is.....For me, its about  getting/giving large amounts NOW and getting rid of those pesky taxes NOW. faber98, the net cash payout after taxes would be roughly 170 million while that is a substantial amount of money it's still less than half of the 363 million jackpot.

The next time you assert that someone has no concept on the value of a large jackpot or are ill equipped to handle it, I suggest you know a little more about them prior.

if you're that astute and financially well off why are you even bothering to play lottery tickets. these people you "trust" will turn on you in a new york minute if you don't carve out a decent slice of your "winnings to them", either directly or allow them to manage some of it. not that you really have to worry about this happening (because it won"t) but human nature is predictable in cases like this and at least you will have each other because your allleged "friends in high finance" will snub you.

Faber, you're making yourself look ridiculous at this point.

This person has given sound advice--FREE advice--for several days on here that I know of, clearly coming from the perspective of someone who's knowledgeable about money---serious money---and investing it.

She's done so without braggadocio or pretense. Why you're getting up in her grill on here about what she does for a living is beyond me or I'm sure most people reading your posts.

I probably won't be winning tonight, I realize that. If I did, she impresses me to the extent I'd clearly consider--after doing due diligence natually---hiring her and her husband to invest a portion of my windfall.

Hope you do yourself a favor and buy a ticket or two for tonight. As I mentioned earlier, you could spread alot of good cheer with a winning draw while saving enough for yourself to enjoy life.

"Guaranteed" until the government decides otherwise!

I don't trust the government!

You should know how to invest for a better return than the lottery annuity!

Hasn't happened yet, but I have seen many "wise investments" fall through. With that much money I would be set for life afer 2 years and then some. You think I care about returns with that amount? No. I could put a year's worth in my huge vault in the house and still be set for life. Retruns are a hassle, also risky, and usually taxed. I would never spend this much money in many lifetimes. Sitting back and collecting the annuity is by far the best option for me. After $5 million the rest is bonus money to collect dust with. At least when you are a responsible buyer as I am.

I totally get where you're coming from. I'd seriously consider the annuity as well, after seeing what estate/tax attorneys/advisors have to say about it.

$180 million (in my case, Ohio resident) coming at you all at once definitely would be intimidating.

Like I said I won't need any extra returns. I don't need to live a super high-end lifestyle, although I would be anyway with that much money even after the FIRST year's payment. I have no need for even more money, taxes, and risky investments. Plus I would continue to work because I am an artist who does what he loves. This money would just allow me to do it or anything else whenever I chose to, as opposed to "having" to do it to survive. It would buy me all the financial security that I needed. I don't see why anyone else would care how someone else spent their lottery jackpot, unless they had some hidden agenda or personal plan of coming after your money. If someone else won I really could care less how they spent it. But with this much money the last thing I need is more returns, and to deal with more people looking for hand outs and scamming opportunities. Unless I am trying to become a billionaire, and just have someone else inherit it all. The only investing I need to do is in myself and my own business. I will make my own my charity also as opposed to giving it to thieves and people who I can't track how they spent it.

It is for "me". Last I checked not eveyone was in the same financial situation. Who said I even need the money, maybe it is just icing on the already thick cake? I could easily live off of the first year's payment for the rest of my life, and I am in my later 30's. For me keeping my money is the smartest investment out there. Might not get any returns but also no chance of losses. People forget just how much money this. I would never even spend the first year's worth most likely, and that is with no other income. I grew up with a modest income and a lot of responsibility, and learned very young how to manage money. So I am ready. I will keep everyone posted on here how it goes though. I am not afraid of anyone finding out either, and leaving the forums only makes you look like a sell-out. No one will find me anyway, and if they do I will have more guns than all the armed forces combined and the best security there is. So no worries here.

Yes it would, and would be tempting. You should never put all your eggs in one basket or you could lose them all. Plus I don't want the hassle of spreading it all out everywhere and having to make my life watching people, and books trying to keep track of it all. I have spent many years studying finance and lottery preparation books and other material, so I know what is best in my situation. Even a CD would be more than enough for me, and if you take an annuity and something did happen at least you have 29 more checks coming. I don't think the government will stop them and if they tried well I would have plenty of money still and enough for some lawsuits and bad press. But my nestegg would already be stashed anyway. I am not saying I would never invest in sound investments but more so that I would never have to anyway with this amount of money.

Also what people forget is we are not talking about a regular annuity here of a few hundred thousand a year, which I could still live very comfortably off of I might add; but several million a year which is more than most smaller cash jackpot games.

I got news for you, the future is uncertain anyway and regardless of what type of investing you do. But I kow for a fact that after the first year alone I will be set financially, and after the 2nd payment I will have no dounts at all about it. But everything is still uncertain. But I am certain that I will be enjoying every second of it all while it does last.

I wonder what the "odds are" that this thread will go on and on until someone wins, and then will die down immediately, with no jackpot winners at all in this thread—who all walk away with their tails between their legs and are not seen again until the next $300 million jackpot? Based on the last 8 years of reading here I would say about 99.999999999999999999999%. Not bursting anyone's bubbles but that is simply reality as the past usually tends to repeat itself. Let's hope it doesn't as it is getting pretty boring. For once I would love to see a "verified" winner as I am still not convinced that the lottery is 100% legit, at least as far as the huge jackpots. I can vouch for some of the smaller games I have won, and hit the big 4 three times straight and boxed picking my own numbers and buying only one ticket. But PB and MM does not give back jack.

Cletu$2's avatarCletu$2

If I were younger I'd consider the annuity, too. But at my age I doubt if I have that many years left. So,I'll be taking the cash option if I should be lucky enough to win.I'll invest some of it so that my heirs will have a nice income as well.Who knows, maybe the lottery will file for bankruptcy protection in the future and leave all those people who chose the annuity option hanging out to dry.Stranger things have happened.

Hence my statement "personal agenda and wanting your money". It is funny though how everyone comes out of the woodwork looking for help when you become rich, but were nowhere to be seen when you were down and out. So I feel no obligation to help anyone unless I decide to on my own. No one is going to tell me how to spend my money, period. That is why I did my homework, not to make others also rich. I did not exist to them before I won so I won't exist after either. Even if the returns are good which I know they would be if "all goes well". But with this amount I don't need returns. I need a huge ass fireproof vault.

believe me that i'm saying because it's true that i am a 2 time major massachusetts lottery winner. no, not millions but many tens of thousands. and yes, i squandered it and regret doing so. these lotteries were never intended to grow jackpots of this size. my main gripe is that people sneer at lets say powerball because it's only 40 million. too many will only play if they can collect 100 million or more. i just fail to understand why anyone wouldn't be content with winning 3 million in a much easier to hit state lottery. but they won't because they will not play it because of these pie in the sky jackpots are all they are interested in. people must set their sights lower. you only have so much time to hit something. waiting for the half a dozen times a year that the jackpots are huge is foolhardy. if you believe that financial advisors are not out for themselves then you need to get a clue. no one needs them to "advise" you how to "invest" your money. so jill and her husband have all their finances and investments in order. so what are they doing all day? watching the dow rise and fall. why isn't he still working for that CM investment firm. i wouldn't trust those 2 with my bottle deposits. they are just shilling on here to try to get someone to send them their money.

I jus recently turned 21 which finally made me legal to play in my state.  My first lottery ticket was the 241 million PB draw a couple months ago. I've been playing atleast 10 bucks a week between PB and MM tickets. Winning a JP would b oh so lovely, but I merely play with hopes of matching 4 or matching 5 numbers. I just want enough to ensure I have a good strt after graduation. So yes, im a young lotto player, on a weekly path to play until it becomes my day.  But throught my first few months of playing Ive only raked in maybe 7$ in winnings and I've put over 150 into it. Not discouraged at all, bcuz I knw that's how the lottery plays out. I only play QP's bcuz I dnt want to b tht player that plays a certain number every week then the week I forget to play, those numbers get drawn.......I guess, in a gyst, I'm asking for any advice u guys would have for a new lotto player. Thanks in advance. F

CollegeLad08Approve I was right out of college when a friend of mine, Mom showed me how to play the lottery. I hadn't played before that point. I must say the first time I hit it was on the #987 which in the lottery book plays for Mother -in-law. I won the very first time I played for $150.00 . I have played ever since. The most I have won on a 3-digit was $6,000 and it was on the 144 and 119. I have won many times on the 4-digit so you need to get a method and follow it. I do gamble, remember "SCARED MONEY DON'T WIN"  but be responsible.Welcome! welcome! hope your stay will be long and prosperous.Big Grin Good luck!

I played $5, realistically I should have just played $1, I don't think it really makes much of a difference.

I played $20 and that all it  take to win the JP or a big second prize.Good luck everyone tonite.Hurray!

believe me that i'm saying because it's true that i am a 2 time major massachusetts lottery winner. no, not millions but many tens of thousands. and yes, i squandered it and regret doing so. these lotteries were never intended to grow jackpots of this size. my main gripe is that people sneer at lets say powerball because it's only 40 million. too many will only play if they can collect 100 million or more. i just fail to understand why anyone wouldn't be content with winning 3 million in a much easier to hit state lottery. but they won't because they will not play it because of these pie in the sky jackpots are all they are interested in. people must set their sights lower. you only have so much time to hit something. waiting for the half a dozen times a year that the jackpots are huge is foolhardy. if you believe that financial advisors are not out for themselves then you need to get a clue. no one needs them to "advise" you how to "invest" your money. so jill and her husband have all their finances and investments in order. so what are they doing all day? watching the dow rise and fall. why isn't he still working for that CM investment firm. i wouldn't trust those 2 with my bottle deposits. they are just shilling on here to try to get someone to send them their money.

Great resume' faber. Now your telling folks that it's a "waste" of their time to play the "BIG" games. Don't get me wrong, I hit $200K for the

Powerball a few years back. But do not assume that everyone has the same range of gambling expectations that you do. If you were that confident

in your wagering skills, I would expect that you would be much more lucrative than you are now. Jill and her husband are probably still working

and investing like you and I should be. They have a family, have worked a lifetime to get where they are now, so please do not knock them.

What I got out of that is that he's bitter over blowing his winnings.  Given his constant ranting against financial advisors, my guess is he got some bad advice that led to his misfortune, so now he distrusts everyone in that sector.  Not only that, but he figures that since he couldn't handle his windfall, no one can handle a huge windfall.

It is all but certain someone will win tonight.

For last years 380 million Mega Millions jackpot sales were $229,421,186.

1.3 times the number of avaliable combinations.

if you're that astute and financially well off why are you even bothering to play lottery tickets. these people you "trust" will turn on you in a new york minute if you don't carve out a decent slice of your "winnings to them", either directly or allow them to manage some of it. not that you really have to worry about this happening (because it won"t) but human nature is predictable in cases like this and at least you will have each other because your allleged "friends in high finance" will snub you.

Wow, so what you're saying is anyone who is successful and finacially well off shouldn't bother playing the lottery? I play periodically but my husband will not participate in any of these games. I think it's fun and I don't mind spending a few dollars when the game gets to these levels. None of our friends have ever turned on us but it sounds like you've had a very negative experience on your end and I'm sorry to hear that.

Sounds like you are well grounded and I applaud you for that. If the stars line up for you this evening and you win the big one, I am sure you will be just fine with which ever decision you go with. Thumbs Up

just don't trust people who use OPM to make a living. "all" of these investment counselors are shysters and are not to be trusted with your cash. hire these two if you want to but jill and her lay about hubby only want their percentage for basically doing nothing but playing with your dough. also, who wants a multi-millionaire to win the lottery or some wall street tycoon. stay away and let someone who needs it win.

Like I mentioned earlier you must have suffered some pretty deep scars with the advisors/money managers in your area and I do feel your pain. FYI, my husband and I only invest our own funds and not "OPM". In the past several years, we have been solicited by a large number of people seeking advice and were more than happy to have given our opinion/advice on many issues...all without charging a fee.

Not everyone involved in the financial field is corrupt or dishonest, you just haven't met them yet.

Broke one of my rules today. I pitched in for the office lottery pool. Leaving  It was only $2, and I refuse the possibility of being the only one who has to show up for work tomorrow.  Of course we have the ultimate set up for controversy... one employee out on vacation that did not get into the pool, and she's the type to make trouble. I almost pitched in $2 in her name and write it off as peace keeping. So, 26 employees pitched in, we have 52 tickets and an excel geek who set up a spreadsheet with conditional statements to check tickets.

However, this is a one time shot unless MM rolls tonight. (how freaking exciting would that be?!?!?!)

It is all but certain someone will win tonight.

For last years 380 million Mega Millions jackpot sales were $229,421,186.

1.3 times the number of avaliable combinations.

That one was a bigger jump than this one. Unless the 363 estmate is way off about 70% of combinations should be in play. A winner(s) is likely, but there's almost a 1 in 3 chance for a rollover. The drawing should be happening right about now, and we'll know in a couple of hours or so.

It's pretty wild to see my servers' network utilitization right now.  It is pegged at 100%, meaning that every last bit of networking bandwidth is completely consumed with Internet traffic.  It takes an awful lot of people to make that happen.  Pretty nice that the sites are still run OK, despite the onslaught of people.  Can't say the same for most government Web sites.  The "official" Mega Millions site just says "Service Unavailable".  Meanwhile, USA Mega is still going strong.

I have not gone to the MegaMillions or Powerball sites in ages. You update about an hour to two hours before them so it is a waste of time to even go there. They should just shut them down in my opinion. I usually get the numbers from here and tweet or text them to my friends so they don't have to wait hours to know the results.

THAT'S WHAT I'M TAKING ABOUT!!!!

When I hear people talking about investments my eyes kind of glaze over because I'm thinking aren't

investments to make money? But I just won (if you win the jackpot) hundreds of millions!!! What do I

need to invest for? Am I being naive? Shoot I'd take the annuity too!! This stuff about the government

money you didn't even work for/earn, a BIG check you would have never have gotten if you didn't win the

I would love to see this thing reach $476 million; unfortunately, I do not se that happening. The winning numbers from tonight's jackpot drawing are too evenly spread out. Even with the double 9s and triple 4s, it does not present the sort of oddities that would immediately signal the likelihood that it has not been won as was the case with the low, birthday numbers and the repeat number of "20" in the last drawing. It seems every time we are about to reach a new feat where the jackpot has a chance to reach astronomical proportions, the thing gets won. Oh well. $12 million on Friday.
