Mega Millions

Winning Mega Millions lottery tickets sold in Illinois, Kansas, Maryland

Final jackpot total of $656 million will be split three ways

How would you react if you won?

By Todd Northrop

The largest lottery jackpot the world has ever seen has been won Friday night by three tickets sold in Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland.

Since early Wednesday morning, the Mega Millions lottery jackpot was raised three times in as many days, and by the time all the sales were totalled at draw time, the jackpot stood at a faint-inducing $656 million.

The Mega Millions winning numbers for Friday, March 30, 2012, were 2, 4, 23, 38, and 46, with Mega Ball number 23. The Megaplier number was 3.

Friday's Mega Millions jackpot was the accumulation of 18 consecutive drawings without a grand prize winner over a two-month stretch. The final jackpot tally utterly decimated the previous world-record jackpot of $390 million, which has been held by the Mega Millions game since March, 2007.

Three winners probably got very little sleep Friday night, as they try to process winning the world's largest lottery jackpot.

Are the winners running around the house screaming? Are they calling their family? Or maybe calling their boss to quit their job? What are they planning to do with all that loot?

What is the first thing you would do?

The Maryland Lottery reported that the winning ticket sold in that state was purchased at a 7-11 store in Milford, Baltimore County.  In Maryland, winners have the option of remaining anonymous.

"This is truly remarkable and historic," said Maryland Lottery Director Stephen Martino. "We can't wait to greet the winner of this world-record setting jackpot."

The person holding the winning Maryland ticket purchased it at 7:15 pm Friday night, buying just one quick pick ticket.

The Illinois winning ticket was sold at the Red Bud Motomart on South Main Street in Red Bud.  It was a quick pick.

The location of the store selling the winning ticket in Kansas has not yet been released, but the Kansas Lottery indicated that the winning ticket was sold in the northeast region.

Fortunately, even if you didn't win the jackpot, the Mega Millions game still offers another 8 ways to win lower-tier prizes.

In addition to the jackpot winner, a whopping 161 lucky players matched the first 5 numbers, but not the Mega Ball, for a $250,000 prize: 3 from Arizona, 1 from Arkansas, 29 from California, 2 from Colorado, 1 from Connecticut, 1 from Delaware, 6 from Georgia, 2 from Idaho, 12 from Illinois, 1 from Indiana, 1 from Kansas, 4 from Kentucky, 2 from Louisiana, 4 from Maryland, 5 from Massachusetts, 6 from Michigan, 4 from Minnesota, 1 from Missouri, 5 from New Jersey, 1 from New Mexico, 17 from New York, 4 from North Carolina, 10 from Ohio, 1 from Oklahoma, 5 from Pennsylvania, 1 from Rhode Island, 1 from South Carolina, 1 from South Dakota, 2 from Tennessee, 14 from Texas, 5 from Virginia, 5 from Washington, 1 from West Virginia, and 3 from Wisconsin.

The 29 California winners will each be awarded prizes of $227,955 because California awards all prizes in a pari-mutuel formula, which calculates the prize amount based on the number of tickets sold and the number of winners in each prize category.

I'm surprised that only 3 won, but it's better than just 1. I thought it would be 5 winners.

Congrats to those people and may they have sound mind moving forward!

Well folks that's it,wonder how long it will be before it reaches that amount or more again. I'm glad it was split. Just wish I would have had some numbers to match, did'nt have nothing. Congrats to the winners, hope they play it safe.

I have a friend who got 4 out of 5 numbers plus the megaball. He picked 01 instead of 02. Off by one number!!!!!!

Originally, he thought he won $150, but his wife told him they won $10,000!! He's pretty excited but can't believe he lost half a billion by one digit!!

I am going to sound like a schmuck but I am glad it was won by at least 3 different tickets and one from Illinois.  Now I just hope they were all quick picks and all lottery pools because that will just stoke the lotto fever even more next go around and it will make me feel better that someone other than me or my family is super rich.  I only had 3 of the larger numbers and missed the lower numbers by one on each side on my own pick.  That sucks!

This was fun!  Historic!  I am not sure if all state lotteries were doing this but DC was printing these large commemorative type tickets as of yesterday (but did not have the 640 mil number, only the 540).  So I have a souvenir to say I played this lottery.

"I could barely keep up reading the jackpot threads!"

In a brief summary, the thousands of post said they will buy cars, boats, planes, mansions, small countries, remain anonymous, have their picture taken holding the huge check giving out their address and phone number with the best time to call, take the cash, take the annuity, 200 players will win, the jackpot will roll, donate to charities, and/or buy a Snickers bar; all the usual stuff.

Today we'll read the obligatory "congrats to the winners", jackpot envy, sour grapes, missed by 6 numbers, I won $4, and forgot to play "my numbers" posts. On Monday we'll read criticism if one or more of the winners claim their prize in person, investment schemes, will one or more of the winners be on a future "Lottery Loser" show, and next week we'll wonder why one or more of the prizes hasn't been claimed.

Before anyone thinks I'm being cynical, it's a parody and it would be nice if some of our new members will stick around, hopefully adding some useful information that might help others win a (though probably much smaller) jackpot.

I guess we know now that there willl most likely never be a billion dollar jackpot or one sole winner if it does get that high. They would need to add more numbers to the game. But at least now I can play and win next week's $12 million in peace, and no one will know or care as they will still all be searching out the winners of this one. It is not as impressive since 3 winners won it, just like 3 people winning about $200 million. I am kinda glad one person did not win it all. Looks like Singleton wasted his $10,000. LOL His "slamdunk" got rejected.

Mega ripoff strikes again! I stopped being disappointed many years ago as it got too predictable. Looks like one will stay anonymous and the other two are probably already rich and will appear 3 months from now once they remembered they bought a ticket. LOL Sleep Always lame and predictable. I am betting no one from LP won as usual. I have yet to see anyone jackpot winner from LP. I hope to be the first.

Oh my gosh, that would piss me off!!  ONE number away from winning the jackpot.  How frustrating!! LOL

According to the article, it said 3 people from WI won the $250,000 prize, but according to the WI lottery website, no one won that prize.

Coin Toss, where did you get the info on where the tickets were sold? was it on the states website or somewhere on this forum.

I would like to find out the winners in Maryland.

Congratulations to YoungnRich!  That is awesome news!!!

Regarding jackpot size, I don't know what it matters, since a bigger jackpot often means multiple winners, therefore a reduced amount for each winner.

That said, it was fun to play on a historic day for the lottery.  I imagine some of that excitement is going to roll over into the Powerball jackpot tonight.  Good luck to all of you playing the PB!

Winners as in? Names? breakdown of how many won in each tier?

I personally find that going to that "states" Website is very informative. Lottory post has a Lottery results page by state that also carries a breakdown of winners/results/payout.  Check the Quick links sidebar.

I think I stated that it does not disappoint me, and I did stop playing it for the most part. I have not bought any tickets for months, I just bought them to humor myself since the jackpot was so high. Only two tickets though because I am smart enough to know that most likely they will not win. Some are too delusional and think that every week they are going to win, and suffer upset after upset. The definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. I am content winning all my lower prizes with my systems, but the jackpot games are a joke and always have been. Especially the MM and PB.

2nd place isn't too bad Y2.....At least your state provides you with that opportunity on the MM (unlike FL)......Every place gives some opportunities that others do not...Frank Griffin has a nice PB win(141 million) back in 2/2010 and Jeff Wilson PB win (88 million) in 6/2009...........hang in there, it could be your turn next !!!

As I understand it the Maryland winner can claim their winnings anonymously, same goes for the Kansas winner. If they are smart they will remain anonymous and let the Illinois winner get all of the media attention.

I see you are new here. Just a tip, don't believe everything you read. Many have said the same thing in the past 8 years and no one ever posted proof of the winning ticket. It is usually new members who post this looking for attention, and wanting to make others more upset or envious. Most likely he did not win squat. When I won smaller amounts in the thousands I always posted photos of my ticket after it was cashed in.

I have seen it all here. Level 2 is slightly more believable to some. But it is also not that big of a deal to post a photo of the ticket. No one can do anything about it anyway so why not show it off? I have seen A LOT of others claim level 2 wins and never posted any proof. I know I would. I even posted proof of my $5,000 winners. But it surprises me just how many take their word for it. I don't. I am not some gullible newbie quick to congratulate without proof. I am shocked that California, New York and Texas did get the big one. These are the states that usually get a piece and they sold a couple of million  tickets per hour. There was also the pictures of people waiting in a 6 hour line from Nevada.

I would have liked to have seen a winner from Maine or Montana...Have some associates in both states.

My neighbor was just regaling me with her version of 'pay back'.  She and dh just got back from wall papering her SIL's bathroom.  WITH LOOSING MM LOTTERY TIX.  Evidently SIL spent **all** of the holiday family pooled present money on MM tix for last evening draw and got a return of ... zip ...

so this morning in 'serves you right' mode... all the siblings went over to her house while she was getting her nails done... and now her master bathroom is wall-papered in MM-tix.  (think coat of shellac over glued tix... what a MESS to get rid of!)

I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures.

What, was she supposed to only spend $10?  If the tickets had won, they'd be happy and sucking up.   That's a family ripe for drama during a real win.  Not good to be around.  If she spent it inappropriately without the permission of the family, they don't need to wall paper her bathroom.  They need to appoint someone else in charge of the pooled present money.  If she won't relinquish, set up a different account at a different bank she doesn't and won't be given access to.  Beyond that, the family sounds like trash anyway.

Someone here claimed to have won a second level prize but didn't put up proof.  Most folk are taking it at face level, a couple folk aren't.  I saw your post about feeling bummed out.  That usually happens, and then as the day wears on, it gets easier to shrug away the fact one didn't hit the jackpot, right?  It gets easier.  That little voice telling you your time will come is lying, though.

Your time is now.  That little voice is why folks get into trouble digging themselves a deeper hole, trying to win back what they lost each time 'this time i know it's my time!'  You're absolutely right in your post about just buying and then forgetting about it, though.  That's the proper mindset.  Don't invest too deeply of yourself, and you'll be less likely to be depressed... and happier when Lady Fortune does smile upon you.  Good luck to YOU, not the trolls or attention whores.

Sirbrad is right that newcomers are being silly when they make false claims of winning in order to save face.  The lies start building up, and real people can get caught into them.  Get someone willing to lie about winning multi times and having a system, and you've got the makings of a scam where real people lose real money when the odds were 1 in 0 of a 'pay out'.

If someone wants to come in here and say they won the second level, by all means put a scan of the ticket up so that folks know that Real People Do Win, and truly rejoice with them.  If a person won't, then folks are right to be skeptical, so that attention whores and scam artists aren't encouraged.  That's all.

They agreed to send each that amount if they won. Yeah, two faceless people online who never met is going to actually follow through with that, I don't think so. Ok here is a question for you long time Lottery Post'ers... After a big jackpot has ended (like MM last night), does lottery play in general drop off or does it remain constant?  That is something that has puzzled me.  If I were horribly disappointed from over spending last night, do most just stop lottery play, thus 'hurting' the jackpots that are still in play? ( such as  now a smaller group playing PB so its jackpot will increase slower?)

Well if sum1 has won, that's amazing and only further my conviction tht IT DOES HAPPEN....yea, imma a beginning lotto player, so new tht I have tracked my input and outcome through my 4-5 months of playing. Possibly 150$ in about 100 of tht all threw this last MM draw session with no more than 12$ wins back. Bad luck doesn't begin to describe. But I had a dream tht I was holding a 4.6 million dollar check a few months ago. Tha dream was so real when I woke up I became instantly sad. Since then I've been mingling between PB and MM and my state lottery. I have my methods like only using QPs and buying tickets frm diff gas stations. But nothing's worked yet. Bought my 1st scratch off today just to say "why not" 3 dollar bingo ticket with a 10 dollar payout. My biggest JP since I've strtd playing the lottery. Lol. So I feel lucky today, hopefully this PB QP is a 2nd prize winner. Stay positive!!!!

I just speak the truth, and I have good reason to doubt he won. I have heard it before for years and no one ever showed any proof. If I won that much and I blabbed it all over the forums, and rubbed it in with some gansta slang, I would be posting a photo also as I did in the past when I won. Otherwise no one is going to believe you. No one intelligent anyway. I am just honest, and have no need to send superficial well wishes that I actually don't believe, and try and fit in with the other superficial crowd. Most don't actually care and they forget it once they log off. So you can stereotype all you want, I can also. But I just call it as I see it, and many others see it but are afraid to say it, hence all the pm's I get saying "you are right."

But factual or not I can post whatever I want to just like everyone else. If you don't want to learn from it or don't like it don't read them. I think most agree though that unless you post proof it is kinda pointless to even say anything. And like I said mostly all new members have done the same thing before, and was just looking for attention and trying to rub it in. But they didn't win jack, nor did they ever prove it. That is all I am saying. I will congratulate them when I see a photo or them standing at the lottery office holding the check. What you call a doubting thomas I call being an intelligent, level-headed skeptic who does not believe everything he reads. I don't alienate new members, but it is usually them who post such things, not long-time members. I guess that is a coincidence? But there are some intelligent new members also as shown in this thread, so I am not discriminating against all new members.

The let down will cut out some of the regulars for a few plays and then they'll rejoin the game.

Beyond that most players have a buy in level. People jump in the bandwagon at different stages and of course the larger the jackpot grows as we've seen in recent times the more people join on. In this last instance even people that never played before. This was historic so everyone came out of the woodwork even 20/20 Barbara Walters was in an office pool!

Exactly, many have tried starting scams here in the past doing EXACTLY that and trying to sell systems. I try to provide awareness, and I get bashed for it. Do you think NC will ever have a jackpot winner?

maximumfun's avatarmaximumfun

Ok and now in a moment of total transparency - I have no idea how to find out how many tickets were sold in total for a specific game (either PB or MM) I have looked on the site, and have tried searching but obviously I have no idea what words should be used in said search.

Can anyone please give me a clue? (clear would be best - ambiguous, while amusing for you, only muddies my already muddled mind)

NC is a small part state , usually bigger will always top the smaller states. I will remained postive for now. I just want someone hit , it doesn't have to be me , it would the icing on the cake. But someone should , so we can have at least someworthy bragging rights.

I think you did JUST that, son. Kinda contradictory isn't it? All I said was don't believe everything you read, especially on a lottery forum. Then you decided to make it personal not me. I use my membership time here to prove a point, and it makes me more qualified than newcomers based on my experience, like it or not. You are twisting it around to match your own misguided beliefs. I have seen arrogant, self-centered billionaries get a lot further than humble poor people, so that is not always true. Now that we've gotten that cleared up, I already told my fellow bloggers how they will know when I win. While I won't do a press conference I will send my thanks through lottery officials (who typically leak it to the press) to HRH Todd and the LP Royal Family.

I can imagine that will scrounge up about 15 or so posts on that particular win with someone trying to remember this very post and tie it to the right member.

CDana will remind you that its the guy with SIX PSYCHICS ON RETAINER - lol!

You could click on "lottery results" from the menu selection in top left hand screen of LP home page.

Click the "state", then the "game". You can archive back for years to see past lottery jackpots.

Or you could log on to your states lottery website and do the same thing. Any help max What?

Actually on any LP page you happen to be on max, there will be in the top left hand column a series of "Quick Links".

The 6th link down is the "Lottery Results"

If you clink that link, that will take you to a whole new page, where all lottery results are at your fingertips. Have the "joe" let me know if you

What a relief that it is back at $12 million. I am glad that it didn't roll over again. All the constant attention from the media and it was all everyone was talking about. It was exciting at first when it went from $363m to $476m, but it started to wear out really fast as it got crazier. I perfer when the jackpots are lo and not a lot of attention is on them. But I still don't regret taking part in the biggest jackpot in the history of the globe.

With regards to Sirbrad being skeptical, I have to agree, unless there is proof you can't really take someone at face value for what they claim, and even then you can still doctor a ticket to look like a winner. More than likely if you have just won, especially in a lottery like this you are not thinking of coming on here and posting. But if he really did win then congratulations.

I am just glad this is over, now we can go back to normal. I lost $6 for the whole week so I am feeling good. I really hope the people that played hundreds and thousands of dollars at least won something substantial, if they they must be pretty depressed today.

Wow! from a vending machine? I will be sitting on the sidelines for several draws, hopefully the PB will go over 100mil by then. I had my 3 year old son pick numbers on a $5 ticket and that produced a $10 winner...woohoo! perhaps my son has been the missing link all this time, but to be fair I also spent a total of $20 which is beyond the usual $2-3 QP wager.

Libra-pinx09

I'm happy someone won from a 7eleven, I have a little hope, the only place you can buy tickets around here is from 7eleven.

So the 3 jackpot winners last night, none of them were QPs?

The person holding the winning Maryland ticket purchased it at 7:15 pm Friday night, buying just one quick pick ticket.

The Illinois winning ticket was sold at the Red Bud Motomart on South Main Street in Red Bud.  It was a quick pick.

The location of the store selling the winning ticket in Kansas has not yet been released, but the Kansas Lottery indicated that the winning ticket was sold in the northeast region.

Guess mathematicians don't give good advice. But for lower prizes I have won all my larger amounts picking my own numbers and playing one ticket. But for the bigger  games it does not seem to matter after using my own systems for many years. My numbers have all come closer and were within 1 and two numbers, but I think I won more back from QP's. But with PB and MB that is never much anyway. My systems worked better for the smaller prize games. But there is still time...

Aust

I think it's hilarious that some individual people were spending thousands of dollars on lottery tickets and spending hours filling out numbers, and the person in Maryland won on a $1 quick pick from a lottery vending machine. That should teach people a lesson.

sirbrad's avatarsirbrad

It probably was the case, and I actually predicted that as it has happened so many times before. But no one can prove that the person did not buy 100 QP's previously or after, or 100 individual QP's etc. A lot also buy stacks of 5 rows for $5.00 and only tell you about the one that won. But the point is that it is certainly possible to win with one QP.

A good lesson for us all. There will always be people that assume that just throwing a lot of money at these games will produce big winners.

Seeing is Believing.  I agree with you 100%, when someone wins a jackpot I search the Internet for a picture or a video of the winning ticket.  I will never say that I won a second prize or the jackpot on Lottery Post without showing a picture or a video of the winning ticket. How about mentioning Lottery Post and your username when you claim your prize. I know Todd would appreciate it.

Lucky SOB

no point in saying you won with out proof. how hard is it to take a pic of a ticket and upload it. Still dont know how wise it is to say you won a bunch of money online(if it turns out he won). back on topic im amazed only 3 people won the jackpot, thought it would at least be 6 diffrent tickets.

A non posting member yeah, probably only posts when the jackpot is close to record breaking. Whether anyone believes it or not it is still pointless to post without proof. Sure anyone could photoshop a fake ticket but only the most dedicated would go that far. Most will take his word for it because it was not the jackpot and no one really cares. But I can say after about 8 years of reading here that I heard that line before, and most from new members or ones who did not post much. If anyone actually won they did not say anything.

But there are a lot more people in the world than there are on LP, so odds are that no one has ever won a major jackpot here yet. Unless I see photo or a large check at Lottery headquarters I don't believe them. $250,000 is a good enough amount that you would have one of those and some press. So let's see it if you want to really brag about it. He did not seem all that excited, and the post sounded fake. I would be more pissed than anything if I missed the record jackpot by one number, and I am not sure if I would even admit to it. Sure it is a decent amount but not even close to what the jackpot was. I am not saying he is a liar but I am not saying that I believe him without proof. I just know the odds, and the odds of someone winning on here and posting. It has not happened yet.

Sounds more to me like he was trying to justify losing so much money.

But I do have some good news LP.....soooo after suffering from lottery fever I divulged all my lotto money into 15 MM QP's last night. Won nothing. Was kinda upset about it this morning and heard best way to cure the fever was to play a scratch off. So I did, my first one ever...a 3$ bing scratch off. Won 10$ off of it. Turned tht in for 3 more of the same ticket and 1 state lotto QP...won 5$ back. Turned that in for one more bingo scratch off and a PB QP....won 8 bucks off the next 3$ bingo scratch off. Turned tht in for 2 more 3$ scratch offs and another PB QP.....yea. Definitely cured my fever. Not really high hopes of winning PB tonight but I jus enjoy I paid for them thru scratch-offs. So far, thes scratch offs have paid back almost quadruple what I've earned frm playing powerball and MM altogether over the last 5 months.

no point in saying you won with out proof. how hard is it to take a pic of a ticket and upload it. Still dont know how wise it is to say you won a bunch of money online(if it turns out he won). back on topic im amazed only 3 people won the jackpot, thought it would at least be 6 diffrent tickets.

What could possibly happen to someone who post a winning ticket online?

No Wisconsin is the worst, we haven't had a Mega Millions winner in Wisconsin yet.  We've had second tier  winners but not a Jackpot winner. Heck we haven't had a Jackpot winner in PowerBall either in quite a while, how pathetic are we, lol. Congrat's to all the winners, I did win $6.00, I had one number and the Mega Ball on two lines, so I spent $10.00  and won $6.00 so I'm out $4.00, so I guess it's not to bad.

I guess that Baskeball player that spent $10,000.00 didn't fair so well, but when you can blow that much money on lotto tickets he really didn't need to win. jmpo.

You figure if the Jackpot was $656 million, now that is only have of what they take in. According to the lottery commission and the break down they gave on Friday, they pay only  $0.50 on every dollar goes into the jackpot, then  $0.06 is paid to the retailer, there were some smaller amounts that they listed that went to other stuff, but these two stuck with me, that only $.50 of evey dollar only goes into the Jackpot. I know they need operating expenses but millions and millions? Those lottery retailers have to sell alot to make out on tickets, at $0.06 a ticket, this past week they made some money, but on average they don't make much. Ok enough of that, just rattled me that they get as much as much as the pot is worth, well estimated amount.

Well let's all hope PowerBall will roll over a couple times now and get to a nice size, not as big as Mega Millions but maybe half of Mega Millions.

Good Luck to you all.

LottoLin

Yes go on Wisconsin Lottery site there 3 winners of $250,000.00, they were Eau Claire , Richfield and Walworth. it gives the names of the stores on the home page of the Wisconsin Lottery.com on news toward the middle of the page on the left side.

I think it's hilarious that some individual people were spending thousands of dollars on lottery tickets and spending hours filling out numbers, and the person in Maryland won on a $1 quick pick from a lottery vending machine. That should teach people a lesson.

Very true. I seen a guy buy 43 dollars in QPs and I know he didn't win the JP, but I don't if he won any lower prizes.  The point is he did not win part of the big one, even though he spent 43 dollars. Spending an arm and a leg is not going to help you win. I don't spend too much, but if I happen to be in a store that sells tickets I will buy one from there, even though I already have my tickets for that night.

notice how a majority of jackpot winners are from quickpicks?  notice how often the winner only played 1 dollar?  its because there are more people buying only 1 quickpick.  its the same reason new york wins often, they have more people playing.  but in the end, more tickets equals more chances anyway you cut it.

I Agree!  There are 10 US states which don't even crack a population of 1 million. Then you have the "big" 4, CA, TX, NY and FL that have

a combined population of over 102 million. It's really all about the numbers of people playing in each state which determine the most

frequent jackpot winners. Quick picks are the most popular way to play the lotteries, another reason why they come up so much more

often than self picks.

There are many "haunted" and "spirit infested" homes here in the Granite State!   Blush I can personally attest. I have seen and heard things

that you would never believe. Most of the haunted homes, or even older government buildings have a very long history, going back 300+

years or more. As a commercial cleaning contractor, I had one account, a very old church/parish hall that sat by a river in Milford NH.

from day 1, all my employees who had worked there heard noises, footsteps, saw draws opening and closing by themselves, would all of

a sudden feel a strong gust of wind inside the building! Nobody would work there anymore. I finally let the account go.   Leaving

Anyhow getting to the Mt. Washington roadway, haven't been up there in a while myself, I believe because of safety reasons those rails

were installed years ago.

I have one other account, a very large dental practice which my company has been cleaning for over 12 years. Coincidentally it's located

in the same town (Milford), where the church/parish hall was haunted. A couple years back the owner (and one of the dentists), of this

practice died in a tragic car accident. The practice still continues. Several times when I have gone in to inspect the completed work, usually

in the evening, I have seen silhouettes of this former doctor floating down one of the hallways near his old office!!! It's not really scary

for me to see that anymore, more like he's just part of the wood work. I would sometimes also feel the floors shaking for no apparent reason?

I know for the Mega drawing there were 651 million tickets sold for the Friday drawing. Some stories were saying 1.45 billion tickets were sold but that was the total ticket sales for all the drawings since the jackpot started at 12 million and rolled 18 times.

If your referring to the dental practice, I believe it is nothing more than the good (deceased) doctor coming back to try and tie up some loose

ends. He fell asleep at the wheel before crashing his car into a tree, he died instantly. He never had any preparation for his next spiritual stage.

I was actually good friends with him, and since this practice was such a big part of his life I think he is trying to resolve his confusion by

occupying his old stomping grounds. Interesting story, I was in his old office actually doing the cleaning for one of my people on vacation that

week. Just as I was finishing up in his old office, the radio in the room suddenly came on, and it was blaring! At the same time the phone was ringing

off the hook. This was a Sunday evening around 9:00PM

I consider him harmless, and do not feel there is anything else contributing to these events. He is probably just feeling very confused, and gravitated

back to one of the most familiar areas in his life.   Blue Angel

I also believe some people are more spiritually in tune, and can communicate with others that have passed on. Call it a gift, or a curse?    Roll Eyes

No, Simba774, it appears that Joe Denette and his wife have slowed down their spending from the last 2.7 years, if now, due to their remaining principle and new investments they have approximately $25M-$30M remaining.  I don't know where Barbara Walters got her spending information from, as they've ONLY purchased about $8M worth of items.  The only way that Barbara could be correct if she is deducting from the Annuity amount of $75M, then subtracting for the lump-sum amount cost, then subtracting for apx. 35% Federal Income Taxes, then lastly subtracting for the 4% State Income Taxes.

Regardless of Barbara's unmentioned mainly 'spending via taxes,' it appeared that the Denette Family are satisfied with their: Nascar Team, 6 ATVs, 2 Monster Buses, 6 vehicles, and 6 houses w/big playgrounds.  It also appears that the Denettes started at least one business where Joe's wife is paid weekly into her individual checking account -- and doesn't spend those monies ... appears to have planned this as her 'family's emergency account'.

The Denettes still appeared to be very happy.  Joe is apparently good at tracking their net worth; as he knew EXACTLY the range ($25M-$30M) that his family's accounts were at when Barbara Walters asked him!

I'm uplifted that Joe is glad that none of his family members need to pursue working a 'job' anymore!  Party

The guy's name is Joe Denette. He split a $227 million MM jackpot (3-ways) drawn on May 1, 2009. The annuity as  $75.6 mil but he opted for the $47.8 million lump sum payout. After 25% fed taxes and 4% VA state taxes, he took home a little over $33 million. That still would have left him with an additional Fed tax liability of $4.78 million unless he found a way to mitigate this...and from what I observed on the 20/20 show it didn't seem like he opened up any kind of charitable trust or gave any to charity.

That said, he may only have about $9 million left (he mentioned on TV that he had almost 1/2 of it left) which doesn't seem possible.

A NASCAR team, 2 motor coaches, 6 homes and a bunch of toys! I don't think this guy will stop until he's broke. Sorry if I sound negative as I don't wish a financial melt down on anyone but his spending is out of control. Give him 2-3 more years and if he doesn't come to his senses or someone doesn't intervene(his wife had no control over the money) he will be broke.

His attitude is very similar to the original interview they did on TLC with David Edwards (medieval collector/drug addict), not a care in the world and thinking his funds would never dwindle. No No Bash

Be nice - lol!

Powerball has to make a major comeback especially at these new rates in order to attract enough people back to the game. It will be a while before Mega Millions build to a competitive jackpot size.

Yeah same here DCF, tons of butter and lots of salt! YUM! YUM!

She might just be a (no polite way to say this, I'm sorry in advance) a media whore, looking for her few minutes in the spotlight.

This makes even more sense, since you brought up the fact that the video from 7-11 showed a man purchasing the winning ticket.

Or it could be something else altogether different? She claimed that she will be going into lottery office today to sort out, we should hear

something soon, maybe by tomorrow. You know the lottery commissions, they move slowly and want to be absolutely certain of the

winners identity before releasing a news press.

Another story on immigrants potentially involved in a "Lotto-Pool-Gate" fiasco ????   Isn't that getting kind of repetative...Lets have a new story, like how one of the MM winners was actually dressed up like a man when she bought her winning ticket !!! Orrrrrrr a jackpot winner is actually on the terrorist watch list and the government confiscates all the winnings or something like that ??

Yep, that's what I was thinking that would explain why she didn't know if she won or not  her words " I don't know if I won. Some of the numbers we familiar. I recognized some of them"she said "

I am still having a hard thinking she would make the claim of winning the Maryland share after it was  known from the video that a male purchased the ticket at the 7:15 timeframe..oh well..hope she has at least 5 numbers.

Me too CD,  I wonder if the man is her fiance, but then why would she say " All right! All Right! I'll share, but I can't find the ticket right now", according to Allen if her fiance bought the ticket with his own money then why would she give his winnings away... What?

LOL... this is giving me a migraine...LOL...

Well, yesterday WAS April Fools Day,afterall.Maybe she was just trying to play a joke on co-workers.

Brcebrce

I see lottery pools being a hassle too, but if you do go into one isn't it smart and common sense to draw up a contract an all members sign it? It won't be airtight if a lawyer didn't draft it but should be clear enough to keep issues from happening.  On an episode winners had a pool. They were all coworkers. Another coworker sued for a piece of money, said they were in the pool. They kept a list of who paid what in and they each singed it. The list went back for 2 years. Judge thew case out that day.
