Hey Starbolt, if I recall this has come up previously here, as the Fl Lottery had the ole L4L ending in Dec 2018 but ended up keeping it going into 2019. If I recall from earlier posts, some well informed folks here have reviewed book #s against top prizes announced and have found some extended gaps, which infer that some winning tics were either destroyed as partial books were pulled from mainstream retailers which don’t carry this game anymore (think Publix), or ticket holders missed a winning number and unknowingly threw out a jackpot ticket.
The accidental throw out scenario is made more likely with this game in that it has but one symbol (Star) which is worth only $100 (people tend to accidentally overlook/miss a matching/winning number more than they overlook symbols - which of course are automatically winners on such number match games). In my estimation the potential for accidental throw out on this game is also bolstered by the fact that it’s the last game without the modern one-step bar code whereby players can scan the bar code using the automated scanner rather than having to have a lotto machine attendant check it.
So, is the L4L “drawing dead” right now? Maybe, and maybe not. I wondered the same thing when Lotto announced it’s ending in 2018 and then extended it (and if I recall there’s was at least one subsequent top winner). I’ll admit that I still will play a couple of these tickets when I find them...
