$50 million lottery winners outed by spiteful letter to new neighbors

A $50 million lottery winner in Adelaide, South Australia, was the target of a spiteful letter outing him to his new neighbors, and he says he has an idea of who produced it.

A leaflet style letter giving in-depth details of the former North Haven family's spending since they had a $50 million windfall in an Australian Powerball draw last August was dropped in dozens of letterboxes surrounding the family's new beachside mansion last week. [Although it has the same name, Powerball in Australia is not related to the multi-state Powerball game in the United States.]

the letter warns residents of the suburb to "be very careful of their new neighbors".

The family moved in to their new home, purchased last November for $2.4 million, earlier this year and have also bought an $850,000 Yorke Peninsula seaside block on which they are building a two-story vacation home.

Other purchases the open letter claims they have made include a $145,000 black Ford Mustang, a $56,000 black opal ring and a home for their daughter.

Family members approached by local media declined to comment in detail on the letter.

"I have a few ideas on who it could be from," the husband said.

Residents in the family's former neighborhood, where they have kept their old family home, said there had been ongoing disputes between the family and other neighbors over a number of years.

One neighbor said he had written a personal letter to the family after hearing news of the anonymous letter being distributed, wishing the family well and advising them he was not responsible for the leaflet.

Another North Haven resident said he was happy the family had left the neighborhood, that he knew nothing about the leaflet but he would not waste his time to produce something like that.

"Good luck to them, and good riddance," the man said.

The winning family KEPT their old house, BOUGHT a new one in an affluent neighborhood and just for funsies are BUILDING a vacation home with ocean views. That nuisance neighbor must be stewing in envy and losing sleep every night. The winners, on the other hand, struggle to decide whether it will be silk sheets or Egyptian cotton tonight - lol!

So jealous! What a mean neighbor! OMG, they bought a house for their daughter...how terrible.  lol  The neighbor seems to be trying very hard to find dirt on these people and he/she is not succeeding.

Much like someone slashing your tires because you have a nice car and they riding around with a piece of crap. Jealousy has been around for 1,000 of years- ain't gonna stop anytime soon.

Winning the lottery was an eyeopener for this family.  Now they know who some of their real friends are, and they certainly aren't the old neighbors.  But, who really knows the truth here?  These lottery winners might be really awful people.  Saints or Sinners ----- Anyone can win lottery.   You just need to be lucky enough to have purchased the winning ticket.

I like that this article was careful not to really "out" this family.

I wish my terrible neighbors would win the lottery so that they can move and take all of their junk, 6 barking dogs and terrible friends drinking and causing havoc with them!

The ones that sent out the news will be waiting for them to fall on their faces and be the first

ones to get that news out too. It doesn't matter if it takes 5 years - they are green with envy

now and looking for redemption. People like this are common and they like to remain

anonymous too - until the chance to say I told you so arises. Some people should be

so unlucky to be in big winner's shoes...their jealousy and envy would come back

and bite them but they'd be wondering: 'why me? I'm a nice person'.

Right.

When it comes to winning big money there are enough people out there judging

whether you deserve it or not.

That would be a dream for me, huge bit of land with a nice house in the middle. That sort of property is hard to come by in the UK.

Im wondering though if the winners were the hated people in the neighborhood...more than one neighbor said good riddance to them...but outing them...someone has a little too much time on their hands...Im for the old saying "fences make good neighbors"...in my case 8 ft privacy fences are my favorite...

jamella724

Well you can't please everybody. Might as well enjoy your life instead of wasting time thinking about neighbors that will not do you good.
