Canada 6/49

TORONTO — Canada's national Lotto 6/49 game is getting ready for a makeover.

Starting in September 2013, Lotto 6/49 will offer Canadian lottery players a new $1 million prize that's guaranteed to be won with each and every draw, jackpots that start at $5 million, and new free play prizes that can be won by matching just 2 numbers.

"With the new $1 million prize that's guaranteed to be won with every draw, Lotto 6/49 will be creating more millionaires every week," said Greg McKenzie, Senior Vice President Lottery, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) and current President of the Interprovincial Lottery Corporation. "These changes will make Lotto 6/49 better than ever while still being the game that Canadians have been playing since 1982."

To support the guaranteed million dollar prizes, bigger starting jackpots, and the new free plays, the new Lotto 6/49 will be priced at $3 per play. For the one additional dollar, players are going to see more ways to win and better value overall than the current game structure offers. "We tested these improvements with more than ten thousand Lotto 6/49 players from coast to coast," said McKenzie. "They were excited about the new ways to win and they told us that its great value for the new price."

Lotto 6/49 will still be the same game that players know and love, only better. Players will still look to match up 6 numbers from 1 to 49 to win big jackpots or other great cash prizes, plus the new free plays for matching just 2 of 6 numbers. And with each $3 play, they will also receive a new unique number exclusively for the new $1 million prize that is guaranteed to be won with every draw. With the new free play prize category, the overall odds of winning any prize improve from 1 in 32.3 to just 1 in 6.6 which means nearly 5 times more winning overall.

Sales for the new Lotto 6/49 will start on Sunday, September 15, 2013 with the first draw to be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. More details about the changes will be released closer to the start of ticket sales.

The Interprovincial Lottery Corporation (ILC) is a nationwide lottery organization incorporated in 1976 under the Canada Corporation Act. The five Canadian provincial lottery corporations include Atlantic Lottery Corporation, Loto-Québec, Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, Western Canada Lottery Corporation, and British Columbia Lottery Corporation, and are joined together through the ILC to undertake national lotteries, instant games and other initiatives of common interest. The provincial lotteries are responsible for national games in their respective jurisdictions.

Yeah but think on this, people pay $5.00 to cross the 3 bridges in the Bay Area on a daily basis,  weekends included. The Golden Gate bridge is higher and $3.00 for a shot at millions?....people will go for it.

Look for this in your state lotto. Texas just added the option of paying an extra dollar for increased prizes.

well i did like the lotto max from canada, and thats dang pricey, and the uk version of euro million thats  £2 an entry. They both have  extra prize  features, but still i probably wouldnt play it every week. We have some change coming in a few months. on a minor game. i hope its worth the wait.

3 bucks a pop for Lotto?

Nah, this (stuff) is gettin' outta hand.

I'd tell 'em to "Take off, Hosers!" (That's how Canadians talk)

Take off, Hosers!

I said I would quit PB when the price per line was raised to $2. I stayed quit for only a week then I was back with full force. The Canadians will not stop playing even if the price per line was hiked to $5.

Mega Millions is going to change after the October 18, 2013 draw.  They have not yet announced what the changes will be other than to say they will impact how fast the jackpot grows and they will change the second tier prizes.

As far as the Canada 6/49 goes, I don't believe they tax the prizes so $1 mil is ok.
Because of the heavy taxes by the feds and most states the prize here would have to be $2 mil.

here in illinois our state lotto(6-52) sucks badly, they have added extra shot for an extra dollar but the top prize is like 40 k and no one ever hits it. also the jackpot climbs at a snails pace. if they could gurantee a million dollar winner for every draw in illinois lotto i wouldnt mind paying 3 bucks a pop.............

the max lotto up there is $5 for 3 lines, and i think they have to be quick picks.

yeah the 2nd and 3rd line are QPs

on the previous game, Super 7, you were able to pick all 3 lines

Unless you are increasing the payback percentage it is all just smoke and mirrors.

The lottery makes you believe that your odds are going down to 6.6 but they dont tell you that the cash prize

odds are decreasing drastically. They want to churn your free plays over and over again. I sure do not play

the lottery for the free quick pick ticket. I would prefer just putting that prize pool to increase the money won

from hitting 4 or 5 of six. But that will never happen as the lottery know that pyschologically if you win a free

pick you feel better than you did if you lost and that free pick is churned back in. Lets say you are playing a lottery

and you win a buck. You ALWAYS put that buck into play on top of your new purchase.

I give kudos to Canada for not having to pay taxes on the winning but they offer sub 50% payback percentages.

To the previous poster about Illinois. I agree. They add all these crappy bells and whistles that no one plays.

And now their jackpot increases about 150k per turn. Unless a super positive change in payback percentages

happen , which it never will with so many munis hurting for cash then I believe one should only play the lottery

on huge rollover. Say when Pick 5 lottery is above 500k or when your state lottery that has 12 mil to 1 odds is offering

a prize of 24+ million (annuity which equals 12mil cash). Instead of playing every day save your money when

you are giving yourself the best chance of hitting the bigger jackpots.

You're a Canadian, Elizabeth...

Tell those hosers to take off!

They'll listen to you.

jamella724

Wow really! $1 million is guaranteed to be won every draw. This is quite interesting. I don't mind spending additional dollar if it will give me higher chances of winning!

Elizabeth03's avatarElizabeth03

I bought a ticket, didn't even win a lousy $1 or 2 on it; if I'd won, I would of gladly told the hoser's around where to go!
