On any given day, many of us wake in the morning, get ready for work, sit in the morning traffic, and for what? To work at a job we cannot stand to work at any longer and wish we had the means to just quit whenever we felt like it. Well, for most that will never be a reality, at least until we're well into our 60s or even 70s years of age. However, we dream of this situation where we can quit our jobs, move to a new place, buy a new home, get a new shiny car, help others, and bring rejuvenation to our decaying lives. We dream of the lottery. The lottery is a magnificent thing. It is something where a dream can become a reality within seconds, and all it costs is a buck or two to change your life forever. Unfortunately, it is not that easy to realize this dream. Against us are the odds of improbabilty. So why do we keep playing when we know the odds are so stacked against us that we have better odds of winning an Academy Award, being struck by lightning, attacked by a shark, or even elected President of the United States. Chances are unlikely that these things will never happen to us in our lifetime and yet we continue to believe we can win a lottery that has odds of 175 MILLION to 1. Not a chance in hell. But wait, someone in New Jersey won the $30 million Mega Millions jackpot last night and someone else won the $40 million Powerball jackpot in Texas on the Wednesday before that! Everyday your dream of winning the lottery is becoming a reality for "someone else" who has that same dream and never thought they would be that person. One day it is possible that you will be that "someone else" for another person with that dream. And this reason alone is what keeps us going, what keeps the dream alive. "A Dollar and a Dream" is all we need because you just never know when you are checking your numbers, as you typically do after drawings, that this time will be special. Somewhere out there, in some household around the country the minute after the numbers are drawn for that record-breaking jackpot and you're feeling disappointed that you did not even get one number, somewhere out there someone will nonchalantly be checking their numbers expecting your same results and will be surprised to find that this time things are different. This time they are that "someone else" who won! It's all in perspective. You feel down and unlucky, while they feel excited and in shock. They are simply humans just as you and I, they are likely working class individuals, with the same dream of one day being able to quit their job. The playing field is level as long as you buy a ticket. You cannot win if you do no play. That is the only way the playing field is not level. Keep yourself under control but also keep the dream alive. Never quit simply because it was not your turn to be "someone else" because you never know when you will be. Always have a ticket because you must be in it to win it! Good luck, All!
