Powerball

MIDDLETOWN, PA — One jackpot-winning Powerball ticket worth $131.5 million from the June 22 drawing was sold at Federal Beer, 1440 Federal St., Philadelphia.

The ticket correctly matched all five white balls — 13, 19, 23, 33, and 57, with Powerball number 28 — to win a prize of a $131.5 million annuity, or $77.4 million cash, less 25 percent federal withholding.

The retailer will receive a $100,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

"It seems Saturday night's 'Super Moon' shone down some 'super luck' on a fortunate Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball player," said Lottery Executive Director Todd Rucci. "This is the 17th Powerball jackpot-winning ticket sold by the Pennsylvania Lottery since we joined the multi-state game."

Lottery officials cannot confirm the identity of the winner until the prize is claimed and the ticket is validated. Pennsylvania Lottery Powerball winners have one year from the drawing date to claim prizes.

The Lottery encourages the holder of the winning ticket to immediately sign the back of the ticket and store it in a safe place.

Then, during Lottery business hours, call the Lottery at 717-702-8146 and file a claim at Lottery headquarters in Middletown, Dauphin County. Claims may be filed at headquarters Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Powerball jackpot reset to an estimated annuity value of $40 million, or $23.5 million cash, for the Wednesday, June 26, drawing.

And they do not tax lottery winnings on the state level in PA. The winner, if they're from PA, will get to keep a few more millions hahaha I love that a lot! a few more millions. It is therapeutic to just say that.

Now MM has higher jackpot. Both in annuity and lump-sum for half of the ticket price.

Congrats to the winner. I saw a video of the store owner Gary Patel and he was shocked and excited. Patel wants to use the $100,000 bonus to make sure his employees are happy and he wants to take a vacation and setup a college fund for his recently born twins.

The cash option is 77.4 million - 25% federal taxes. No state taxes on lottery wins in PA. Way more then 46.8 million.

The cash option is 77.4 million - 25% federal taxes. No state taxes on lottery wins in PA. Way more then 46.8 million.

25% is what is initially withheld. Here are the 2013 federal tax brackets:

Rate Single Filers Married Joint Filers Head of Household Filers
10% $0 to $8,925 $0 to $17,850 $0 to $12,750
15% $8,925 to $36,250 $17,850 to $72,500 $12,750 to $48,600
25% $36,250 to $87,850 $72,500 to $146,400 $48,600 to $125,450
28% $87,850 to $183,250 $146,400 to $223,050 $125,450 to $203,150
33% $183,250 to $398,350 $223,050 to $398,350 $203,150 to $398,350
35% $398,350 to $400,000 $398,350 to $450,000 $398,350 to $425,000
39.6% $400,000 and up $450,000 and up $425,000 and up

it's like when you work, money is withheld from your pay check and then you have to do your taxes in April. Depending on how much money you make, you might get a refund if they withheld too much or you may owe more money if they withheld too little.

In this case the Powerball winner won 77.4 million and 25% is withheld, when they due their taxes they will owe even more money.

They should have increased the price a long time ago.

Who could be that lucky winner? I hope it's me because if I hit the jackpot worth $131.5 million I will do a lot of things with that money. I put up a business , buy house and lot and part of it will go to my community. I wonder when it will happen, I hope soon!
