Board provides no explanation for action
The New Mexico Lottery's board of directors has voted to terminate the contract of chief executive officer Tom Romero, effective immediately.
Romero had been the lottery's executive vice president of security since its inception in 1996 and CEO since November 2006.
The seven-member, governor-appointed Lottery Authority Board voted unanimously to terminate Romero's contract Wednesday.
No reason was immediately given for the move and board members declined to discuss the termination after the special session.
In a statement, the board thanked Romero for his many years of "devoted service to the lottery."
That's strange
Any New Mexico players here on LP?
The CEO of Georgia's Lottery Corp. should be treated the same way!
We should have the Pennsylvania Lottery investigated, along with Corbin's personal finances, off shore bank accounts, hidden assets? Investigate Attorney General! You HAVE the Power of the People!
Ouch, those splinters sure do hurt. Don't you just Love it when a board terminates someone without a reason. Maybe turnabout would be fair play there...!
Interesting. He is also chairman of MUSL (Powerball).
I'm gonna guess, too many winners.
Hanky Panky?
lakerben
Hmmm, I wonder if we'll hear more, there's always more.
Iol..splinters huh?
He probably knows why they showing him the door. I wonder if these CEO's of lottery Commissions get their " Golden Parachute" when they told their services are no longer required?
Am not surprised mexico terminated it's lottery CEO but am surprised they terminated him peacefully and not the real Mexican way of termination .At least they are getting better civilized over there.lol
This is New Mexico, not old Mexico below the border. But I get what you mean.
Actually, in the old days, if he was doing hanky panky, they'd probably fire the secretary and give him a promotion. Instead, today they say "thank you for your years of service" and let him slip quietly away with a hefty severance package, probably to a high paying job in the private sector with one of the contractors, or possibly run for congress.
They can't have that lol the lottery is supposed to be painful and unforgiving..
This must have been under adverse terms.
Cuz they didn't even show him the courtesy of saying he resigned because he wanted to spend more time with his family.
Which is what they usually say when bigshots get fired.
lol....my fave DC line is that this person "will no longer be continuing in his/her capactity as Director of so and so." So the staff is left wondering, was she/he promoted/kicked upstairs, seriously ill, fired, or under indictment? lol
Always better when they are escorted out by security, and their personal belongings left outside the office.
It is very sad to see a lottery CEO losing his job.
There must be a really good reason for the board members to unanimously vote for the termination of the CEO. I am quite curious what that reason could be, why they didn't ask for resignation instead of termination. How did the Mr. Romero take such actions. I am looking forward about the update of this news.
