TRENTON, N.J. — Itching to buy a lottery ticket but can't leave the house? Have one delivered.
At least that's the idea behind a bill state Assemblyman John Burzichelli has introduced.
The measure (A4018) would allow courier services to deliver New Jersey lottery tickets throughout the state. Burzichelli (D-Gloucester) said similar services are common in Europe.
"If you're either too busy or can't get out of the house, you can make arrangements," he said.
Currently, New Jersey lottery players can buy tickets only in person. An effort to institute an online lottery in the state failed in 2011.
But Burzichelli said a few courier companies are interested in setting up shop here. And though nothing in state law bars such operations, he said he introduced the bill to set up guidelines.
Under the measure, couriers would have to register with the State Lottery Commission. They would be allowed only to charge a fee and would be barred from taking a piece of any winnings.
Burzichelli said the next step is for the Assembly's tourism and gaming committee to vote on the bill. It would then need to be passed by the full Assembly and state Senate and then signed by Gov. Chris Christie to become law.
Sales will increase. Jersey will snag one or two more jackpots a year and residents from other states will be clamoring for this initiative to be implemented. I think its kinda snazzy. Hope it comes off.
....deliver food, deliver laundry, deliver sex, deliver merchandise, what else is left. Pretty soon, we will never get out of the house anymore. Beware of bogus tickets. If they are really serious, they should fight harder to institute an online game/lottery.
The moment l read " Courier delivery" service l immediately thought of that service being carried out by folks on bikes in the Financial District in San Francisco. Those people are experts in negotiating through insane traffic at all times of the day.This proposal for NJ is on a grander scale. All the best with that idea NJ.
They're trying to get more revenues while not raising ticket prices or lowering the odds of winning so I think it's good for NJ players
Great... the online effort failed so lets go back and do it the way it would be done 50 years ago, no wonder this state is so backward.
MA. has a system where anyone in the country can buy their doubler and we can't even get tix to someone down the road w/out a car.
Burzichelli is the same guy that tried to give us the 1 year anonymity deal, maybe he should give that another shot.

Tip driver ?
what if there's a prob w/ the tix ?
Is the person that called for delivery >18 ?
Is the courier going to buy anything else in the store ?
Forget all this, I need a system where someone will deliver Delaware lottery to me.

Just hope the fee charged for delivery will not discourage players, if it's not reasonable.
Next they'll be coming up with rules for friends picking up tickets for friends, once these delivery services get started they won't tolerate anything like that.
Great idea, very convenience. Just think bad weather, you don't feel like driving you can still play.
Stop with the BS already. So instead of it costing you $1 dollar to play it will cost ya $10 after the companies get their cut for deliveries. Just allow the people to buy their tickets online. Sales would soar because of conveniences, the rest of the crap wouldn't be necessary at all. I mean, if you can bank online without any problems why would this be an issue. And look at all the trees and soybean ink they could save. Even more cost savings to go into their pockets. It would be a win/win.

Gee this is all kind of a backwards version of history repeating itself.
The Pick 3 used to be called 'Numbers' or 'Policy' and bets were usually placed by phone or given to runners (commonly known as Tony Bag O'Donuts.)
If a player won they were offered to use the winnings to make more bets or 'Tony' would deliver the winnings.
What's next NJ? The payoff will be reduced by $50 if the middle digit is a 1?
The Massachusetts lottery can deliver tickets to your door anywhere in the US for Megabucks Doubler. Unfortunately they can't do it for other games.
I subscribe to Megabucks Doubler to show my support for the right of State Lotteries to offer subscriptions across state lines.
Why don't you people sell this wonderful idea to Colorado so you can have both your pot and your ticket delivered at same time and save half price two for one that will make more sense so you really don't have to go outside anyway too cold . hold tickets on one hand and legal weeds on the other sounds like a win win for everybody so you feel like a winner even when you lossing great free country.
Wow, delivering that $1.00 mega million ticket, may cost a gallon of gas to deliver.

The Massachusetts Lottery's fee is just a few dollars, they send by UPS.
The last time I renewed, it was 4 or 5 dollars. The subscription is for a year, so that's not much.
I don't really care what New Jersey decides to do, but on the downside, it would hurt lottery retailers with "brick and mortar" stores.
I don't think so. This local stores never treat lottery players with respect anyway they are always rude and hate lottery players that spend more on lottery than they spend on their over priced items . So players are hurt too by retailers crapy service and some of them will even still your winning ticket and tell you it is worth $2. So more options better for everybody so during frenzy buying you will appreciate it. People will still buy from store anyway they walk away only when they see long lines.

Just going thru some business cards and see that Fred & Pete's Deli on Rt. 33 in Mercerville, NJ stated they had 6 Pick 6 winners sold there.

Don't think having tickets sent to me would have the same feel to it but for someone who can't get out; having them delivered at least it gives them the chance to
be in the games.
