VANCOUVER — The individual who purchased the winning $50 million Lotto Max ticket in Langley, British Columbia, on March 14, 2014 has come forward.
This comes after the British Columbia Lotto Corporation's renewed plea this week for the winner to claim their prize. As per lottery regulations, the one-year deadline to claim the prize is this Saturday.
The winning numbers for that particular draw were 3, 4, 5, 7, 31, 33, and 40 with bonus number 49.
Lotto Max is a multi-province game offered throughout Canada. It features a rolling jackpot that is capped once it reaches $50 million.
With more than 11 months elapsed since the numbers were drawn, there was rampant speculation over what has happened to the winner, with some wondering the winner has died or the ticket was purchased by a minor.
The unclaimed prize even sparked a lawsuit amongst a group of Shoppers Drug Mart employees alleging one of their co-workers was hiding the winning ticket purchased with workplace pool funds.
The B.C. Lottery Corp. says it's confirmed the ticket is genuine and that officials will now proceed with a verification process to determine the rightful ticketholder. The lottery has not revealed the identity of the individual who came forward with the winning ticket.
The winning ticket was purchased in Langley.
Cutting it close!!!! Congratulation to the winner or winners
I hope they tell us why they waited so long, 2-3 months OK but so close to the deadline ?
am sure they did it just for the drama
Yes, but if they did it in hopes that nobody would care who won, all they have done with waiting this long has been to stir up more interest.
I don't see the point in claiming this late.
If it is a capped Jackpot it still means it is one of the highest they ever had, it will still make the news, his name is still public record.
I get waiting a month or two in which I would hammer out a plan with my advisors anyway, but give away 10 months of interest? Hell now. I also wouldn't want to wait 10 months + check cashing until my vacation around the world.
It's possible that they could have lost the ticket and all this time has been spent looking for it?
I would have had several meltdowns over that. Just imagining that makes me nervous.
I used to work in Langley BC. Maybe my old boss won and will feel charitable
You know they're gonna plaster his name all over the place so you're gonna find soon!
Same here. I would be a nervous wreck. Lol
Ditto, MaximumMillions!
Congratulations on your win .And God blessed you
A happy ending! Good.
In my opinion, this is a Idiot move.Things could happen, accident, killed, died, become where you can,t take care of yourself anymore. If you win a jackpot get your stuff in order, financial advisor, lawyer, accountant,if u can remained anonymous,an get ur money as soon as possible.Trust me,life is short.
La berdad es que me da mucho gusto y ala bes mucha alegría por las personas que an ganado y los felicito
Congratulation to the winner. I hope this person has never been a employee of Shoppers Drug Mart.
