The World Series of Poker, whose Main Event got underway last Monday, is today a global phenomenon, with thousands of players hoping to bluff and raise their way towards the millions of dollars at stake. Its first years were considerably smaller scale, but have some interesting lessons that still resonate today. Although the World Series of Poker was a marquee event at Binion’s Horseshoe in Downtown Las Vegas for decades, the tournament did not start at Binion’s or even, for that matter, Las Vegas. It began at Reno’s Holiday Casino, where owners Bill and LaFayne Moore decided, in 1968, to hold the Texas Gamblers Reunion

My son came back Monday from Las Vegas, spent a week out there. Don't know how many games he sat in. His best was a 7th,8th,9th finish in 3 of the games.

Given how many players are participating & games, and your son's skill level; 7th-8th-9th finish in Vegas is considered OK :-)

World Series of Poker Main Even @ Binions draws second biggest field of all time.

The eventual winner will claim $8.8 Million, the fifth largest prize in the history of the Vegas tournament.

Lots of players are upset with Cynn for "slow-rolling" Miles' all-in bet. But some are saying it was paybacks for when Miles did the same thing to Joe Cada.

And players talk about Phil Helmuth's antics; go figure.

Thank you for your interest uprrman,Stack et al, for your interest in this, 'fantastical' results @ WSOP.

WSOP drew a record 123,865 players - an amazing record.

An actual 18, 105 participants got a good cut of the prize money. Twenty eight of them earned at least $1Million.
