Tucker is absolutely correct that patterns only exist in the past. That being said, there are certain heuristics that could be used as the basis for an algorithm. Assuming you are picking the numbers to play, you might narrow the odds a tiny bit by measuring and applying observations like these (I only play MM and PB so I have no ideas about other games:
- Up to 90% of PB result sets contain 2 numbers in one or more decades, IOW 2 #s in the 40s in Saturday's drawing or 2 #s in single digits and 2 #s in 40s last Wednesday
- The Powerball number is more likely over time to be in the tens (10 - 19) than the singles (1 - 9) or the 20s (20 - 25) simply because there are more #s in the tens
- In MM, numbers that were drawn in the last drawing are frequently drawn again in the next drawing. Of the last 10 MM draws, 1 or more numbers repeated in the next drawing 50% of the time
But keep in mind that the lottery is based on ostensibly random drawings and any set of numbers could be drawn in any drawing. Even the exact same set of numbers could be drawn 10 or 100 times in a row without breaking any rules of statistics. (Assuming no one has hacked the RNG code or otherwise manipulated the drawings.)

Look at average of numbers drawn, do a standard deviation. do std dev of all numbers, lowest, second lowest, ....to highest.

you can get alot out of excel, but will need to write a program to do the real crunching.

You can't predict future drawings. Pick numbers at random, use favorite numbers, or buy a quick-pick. They all have exactly the same chance of winning.

You can reduce the chances of having to share the jackpot if you avoid picking numbers that other people commonly choose (7 and 11 are "lucky", numbers 1-12 for months, and numbers 1-31 for days of the month since many people use dates to pick numbers). Also, pick numbers that other people avoid, of which the only one I can think of is "unlucky" 13.
