So I thought this was impossible in PA...but the $457 M jackpot won in PA in March 2018 was claimed by the attorney representing the Emerald Legacy Trust. The attorney was from a large powerful law firm. I have now marked that law firm as part of my potential team for claiming a large winning ticket. I play wherever I travel, but always had a preference for the states that allow one to claim anonymously.

I did not see a post on this in the discussion forum, so started this thread.

Which game was it? Power Ball? Yes, it was Power Ball. I googled it.

I have yet to read about the $150 million powerball winner here in Oregon either because the lottery released his name and were he bought the ticket from circle k in salem, oregon. But the press conference was a picture of the circle k rep not the winner and he already chose cash option on his check. It has been in the news briefly.-weshar75

Powerball was the game. But, I thought all PA winners had to have name disclosed even if a trust / trustee is the claimant. I guess a good lawyer can pay off in spades at times.

If enough players decided to boycott lotteries until all states or their state allowed winners to remain anonymous it would definitely send the lotteries a message.

Too bad it will never happen because too many want their '15 minutes of fame' but it would be effective.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any. So many systems, so many theories, so few jackpot winners.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

@Raven62 I am assuming the PA lottery had not encountered a law firm that asserted based on the trust set up...all the lottery was entitled to was the name of the trustee (which was the attorney). This law firm definitely asserted the rights of trusts. I am shocked. I don't think there has been an anonymous winner of jackpot until now (the 457 M Powerball win).

The trust has no rights that result in special treatment if the law or lottery regulations require disclosing the name of the actual person(s) who win. There are states that only permit actual persons to claim lottery prizes, but it may be that the PA lottery is only required to release the name of the winner, and as a valid legal entity a trust can be the winner. Why no previous winner has shielded their name by claiming as a trust is then the big question. It could just be that there haven't been all that many jackpot winners and few of them were sensible enough to take some time and consult with professionals before running to the lottery office to get their money.

I think it's great that lawyer has claimed so many prizes for winners who do not want to be bothered by anonymous people just because he/she got lucky and they didn't.

I actually prefer big winners having their basic identity revealed eventually, just because it helps to show that the whole thing isn't rigged. Some Ma & Pa nobodies from a small rural town, as well as some people struggling in impoverished urban environments, and so on, should be winning sometimes, and I like to see that. I do think though that winners should be given some months after claiming their winning, before their identity and story is revealed. They should be given time to make decisions regarding / to arrange such things as security, moving somewhere else if desired, privacy measures, etc. There are plenty of very wealthy people in every area of the United States who don't get harassed by strangers, as they live together in their little communities and areas where being wealthy isn't strange or special, and anyone can look up the names of CEO's of various large companies & other people who are likely to be millionaires. The lifestyle is different in part due to making it difficult for random strangers to be obnoxious to them. So I do think winners should be able to claim and remain anonymous for up to say 6 months to give them time to adjust.. but I still like seeing some winner evidence plus some cool stories.

States and countries that do allow winners to remain anonymous don't seem to be having any problems by doing so.

Revealing sinners identities eventually really isn't going to do much for people in rural towns or impoverished urban communities.

Whether someone lives where remaining anonymous is allowed, or not, and they suspect a lottery of being rigged does make one wonder why they play.
