I've no idea what the problem is or what's even going on with it.
If it's a dataprocessing problem (A computer crashed because it was overwhelmed with the volume/amount of data which is a very common reason for computers go down) they will need quite a bit of time to restore it to the state it was at prior to crashing - especially if it's a mainframe.
I worked for IBM for 32 years inside one of the largest datacenters in the world. I was heavily involved with something called Disaster Recovery which is the restoration of any type of computer that may have been destroyed because it sat inside a datacenter that was completely destroyed by an environmental disaster such as a hurricane or a fire. I can tell you that it takes at least 48 hours to bring up a mainframe to a point where is is running exactly like it did prior to being destroyed. Smaller computers like mid-frames take less time to restore, but it'll still take the better part of one day to get it back.
Add to the above that many machines run out of date (antiquated) software and the hardware itself is very old which probably means the software and hardware to restore the machine is no longer commercially available. Ran into that problem many times with various IBM customers that had a machine go down. Try telling them their machine cant be restored and that they need to buy a whole new multi-million dollar mainframe, and see what happens to you when you tell them that. The words "Are you effing CRAZY??" spring to my mind quite easily.
Is it a DP/IT related problem causing the delay? I dunno. It might be. But rest assured all kinds of lottery executives at the location where the problem exists are all over the poor fool that's trying to fix it. G5
How stupid is this? Replying to my own message.......
I'm not trying to be a fearmonger... I do not know if the problem is data processing related or not, nor do I know if it is a DP problem that the equipment the lottery is using is old and as a result it failed. I dont know nuthin!
My past work experience makes me think it is a DP problem. Have you ever seen a mainframe? My guess is that you probably have not. Not many people ever have seen one. That's because companies that do have them deliberately hide them behind walls with no windows deep inside their facilities. (buildings) They do that because the crown jewels of their businesses are running on that mainframe and they are afraid of corporate espionage, and even sabotage.
I've seen hundreds of mainframes, mid-frames, servers and whatever else there is with regard to DP equipment. I've even toured IBM's factory where mainframes are built in eastern New York. BTW - IBM is often referred to as "Big Blue". That's because many years ago the metal covers on IBM's mainframes were painted bright blue. Not any more. They haven't been painted blue for years. They're all painted black now. Ever see a ThinkPad? It's the same color black as a mainframe.
Big computers aint cheap. Mainframes cost millions of dollars so the companies that have them are slow to pull the trigger on upgrading to a new one. But in order to efficiently and QUICKLY process the MILLIONS of transactions that it takes when it comes to the general public in the grip of "lotto fever" the lottery needs the big computing horse power that only a mainframe can provide.
Many times when a mainframe fails, it does NOT go completely down. Instead parts of it become inoperable but computer operators will shift workload to other parts that are still up. It will take longer for that workload to complete due to the shift, but it'll eventually get the work done. It's been quite a few hours since the drawing should have taken place. That tells me they're scrambling to find a replacement part or replacement software to fix it. And maybe due to the age of the computer they're having a hard time finding the replacement part or software.
It'll be interesting to see if it is a DP problem and if it is, how long it takes to recover so as to be able to hold the drawing. But one thing I can tell you is that whoever's job it is to fix it has HUGE pressure on them to get it fixed and get it fixed NOW!!! G5

whelps PowerBall thieves that's a (non) clever way to increase the interest, and produce more revenue for the greedy embezzlers, more tax money for the government thieves, and to take it away from a legitimate winner....feign some technical issue, and lie like the former admin. NSA, area 51, Roswell weather balloon, space debris, all types of lies you thought we'd just believe because it came from a quasi-government agency.....even though there's nothing short of to stop playing in order show our disbelief we don't now, and never will trust you......

Lol, you people are so outraged by something that you'll never gain in your lifetime. Powerball and the State Jackpot games are for gullible people who don't understand the astronomical odds against you winning. Keep donating your hard earned money to a lost cause.

The draw video on youtube shows the lady saying "tonight", giving the impression the draw was before all the ticket data was in (and I hope digitally signed to prevent tampering). That opens up the possibility of cheating by an insider. Or it could be that the teleprompter script was not updated to read "this morning" instead of "tonight".
Early news indicates a single winner from California. If that is true, we now know a friend of the possible insider cheat.

If you watched the video from the draw before this one you'll see the background goes completely black and yet the announcer doesn't even blink an eye. My guess there are a couple of different video that they splice together (I'm sure there's a more techy term for this ). My question would be how many people have access to the video of the actual draw beforehand.
