It seems I remember a ton of people winning a New Jersey lottery once but I can't find anything on it

It was a popular combo like 10-15-20-25-30 or something and 1,000 people (or more!) went to bed thinking they won millions and woke up to \$10-12,000 each or something silly like that

Anyone recall this?

I don't remember ever hearing about that many winners for a jackpot game. let alone details.

The numbers were all multiples of 9, but a Philippine lottery had over 400 winners a few months ago, and quite a while back over 100 people won the 2nd place PB prize when they all played a set  of (seemingly normal) numbers from a fortune cookie. I once looked and couldn't find the details, but a NY game (probably Take 5) draw multiples of 5 (perhaps 7 to 10 years ago). IIRC one multiple was missed so it wasn't a straight sequence. There were more winners than usual, but I don't think it was more than 10. If it had been a straight series without the missing multiple it's entirely possible that there could have been over a hundred winners, but not enough people play to result in a really huge number of winners i=unless they draw one of the most popular combinations.

Another thing I remember generally, but not in great detail, is ads the NY lottery ran back in the 80s telling people not to play patterns. The ads said that the two diagonal patterns starting at the top corners of the bet sip were routinely played over 8000 times for each drawing. If 1,2,3,4,5 +6 ever comes up for PB or MM I wouldn't be surprised if there are well over 1000 winners. For a typical drawing they might sell 10 to 15 million tickets, of which 2 to 4.5 million are self picks, so getting 1000 winners would require between 1 in 2000 and 1 in 4500 players choosing that combination, which seems possible. Given all of the birthday combinations, patterns, and other multiples players could choose from I'd be surprised to see 1000 winners for multiples of 5 unless it's a game that sells more than 10 million tickets.
