  This week was a roller coaster ride for an Ohio woman.  First she said she won the $162 million Mega Millions jackpot, then she said she lost the ticket.  Of course, that sent groups of people looking for it.

  After all the money I've lost playing these frustrating games, I would take the money and run and give some to charity, (my family and friends).

  If no one else claimed it, of course I would redeem it. But if someone else made a claim, then it might be a problem. Knowing that it wasn't really your ticket, would you fight it in court?

  If there was no signature on the back "I WOULD KEEP IT" if I tried to find out who it belonged to everyone one would try and claim it and if I really did happen to find the TRUE owner I wouldn't get anything for my help.

  Unless the back of the ticket is filled out, how would anyone know?  I'vwe found a few winning tickets, (actually scratches that were never rubbed off completley), good for a dollar or two.  Those who play scratch games, know the secret codes that tell the winners from the losers.  In Pa, it's the number or numbers inside the parentheses.  (sometimes there's letters that spell out , like E-N-T for entry  or C-L-M for claim (a fellow who's wife won big, showed me that one).  In Del. and md., they still use the 3-letter code:  ONE for $1, TWO for two, etc.  But that doesn't always work, I had a $50 in Md., but couldn't decipher.  the clerk asked me how much did i think I won.  I said I think I hit it all -$50.  I was right, computer never lies.

  But again, on a draw ticket, unless the person put his name and address when they bought the ticket (I would think hardly anyone would), then of course, finder's keepers.  Again, tickets can be traced to the store they were bought at.  So a "loser better have a good story.  That lady in cleveland didn't, obviously.  No pity for her from me.

  I would like to think I would make every effort to see that the rightful owner got it back, but I know I would really feel foolish if after turning it in, someone made up a story  that I could have made up and was rewarded the prize with no real proof of ownership, so I would probably sign it ,cash it, and be upfront about finding it and deal with the consequences.

  If you told the media that you found it, you would get 10,000 people filing lawsuits. The name of the store is usually made public before the winner comes forward.

  After renting that movie "Finder's Fee"  from Blockbuster Video a month ago, if the ticket was NOT mine, I would say "Give it to the police".  See the movie and you'll know why.

  Smart lottery winners form trust to claim their winnings.  They send an attorney to the lottery headquarters to claim the prize in trust, so that ONLY the name of the trust is revealed.  And they tell NO ONE, especially relatives.

  If you ever win a lottery and you are single, the only person you should ever marry is someone who was truly in love with you BEFORE you won the jackpot!

  People can talk about strategies and gimmicks all they want, but unless your ticket actually matches at least 5 of those 6 balls, you are just another person who tried to win a game yet ultimately failed.

  I doubt if any store even the local Wal-Mart, have that many customers in a three day periods, so it would be hard for that many people to come up with a believable story.

  Sorry I'd still keep it the POLICE are crooked here in MIAMI they would probably KEEP it for themselves beside's it's just a MOVIE right?

  RJOh, all they would have to say was that they were in the store, and bought a ticket. How could you prove they were lying? They would have more of a claim than you, because you claimed you found it.
