I've often wondered how many people here play straight only. Yeah, it pays more, but look at all the boxed hits you'll throw away. I mean, I look at S/B as a way to stay even until a nice hit comes along. I've never had the guts to go "straight only" unless I buy several ticket of the same number then occasionally I may throw a "straight only" in there, but it is very rare.
Just curious to see how the majority plays their game.

P.S. A "Combo" bet (here in MO) is where you cover every possible combination of the combo you are playing. I read the other day where a state called it a "Back Up Bet" .....I believe?

You and I feel the same way I rarely play straight only even in the pick 3.
I rather be safe with a small box win then lose it all on a straight and the number comes in box.

Last year I missed so many numbers playing straight only but also won some good money that way. This year I play all ways depending on the amount of money I have allotted. Mostly straight and box.

I play straight/ box/ and combo sometimes.
That way I would be cover with the lottery
numbers that I play.

so far I am only playing on paper but play ten numbers I like str/box, then also just straight!

Yep, the boxes minimize the damage until the straights hit. I started out on pick 3 playing .50 boxes so I could play more numbers cheaper and have a better chance at winning. After hitting two straights on box play (one of them a double) in the first two weeks, I quickly changed to straight/box play.

Straight only 98% of the time.
I did play st/bx this afternoon on a new system I was trying with the picking of one digit to fall. I was looking for the 7 as the highest digit to fall. I played 10 combinations at mid-day with the 7 in them. The 734 st was one of them. The 790 hit. I was mad after playing 10 combinations for $10.00 so I did not replay any pick 3 this eve at all. Well the 734 hit this eve and now I am really maddddddddd. Well that vents my anger so now to answer the question of only straight plays.
I have the tendency to pick straight positions pretty good at times using my straight pick system.
To play the numbers say 50 cent box I need to get a box hit with the amount of plays I do before I reach the $40.00 mark. I feel after I go over the $40.00 loss I am playing on the loosing end.
To play straight at a $250.00 or $500.00 return brings my money back quicker with fewer hits when I hit.I can also use that box bet money for a bigger straight hit or play an additional straight positon on the numbers.
I was mad after dropping $10.00 at mid-day. My normal draw wager is around $5.00 per draw on the three game. If I kept my cool and only played 5 dollars at mid I would have replayed those 10 numbers this eve. So not staying to my budget and play pattern cost me a loss of $250.00 this eve.
I have also started playing the four game and that adds to the budget. I only play straight in the four game also. Played my 8 four digit numbers this eve. And lost

When i have a good feeling my 3 digit pick will hit i play it 50/50 and a buck.

Straight only - I have a budget of $10.00 a day, so that give me 20 plays @.50 per ticket a day for a chance at a straight hit of 10 numbers for Midday and 10 for evening draws... When I play a double, I always wheel it (155-515-551)

I play straights only as well...because $ for $ straights produce a better peofit for me. Also I'm on a tight lottery budget so every bet counts and I'd rather get a chance for another straight for my .50 bet.
Keep track on paper what profit you get from the box betting compared to straight betting over a peoid of time. Then adjust your betting strategy accordingly.

Posted 4/6: IL Pick 3 midday and evening until they hit: 555, 347 (str8).

In California we can not bet 50 cents, but when we play $1 straight/box, we are actually betting 50 cents on each. The problem in California is our payouts for a straight are often over $600. That means going to the Lotto office, filling out the paperwork, waiting for the check to come in the mail and having to prove to the IRS that you lost that much!
I prefer playing str/box. What I really like is to play a double like Lucky pointed out (255, 525, 552), str/box on THREE play slips. If my number comes in, I have 3 winning tickets, but none of them are on the same slip and I don't have the hassle listed above. Yes, the check is very nice with the straight, but the odds of hitting a straight are 1000:1 but the odds of hitting a straight/box with a double is 333:1. So, I will (by theory!!) win 3 times more often with the str/box play.
I have a limited budget as well as the others that have pointed that out. But playing "my method" and the str/box, I was winning about $250 a week for 5 weeks in a row!! And the IRS doesn't know about it!!!!!!!!
I dventually blew all the money on trying to hit it big with the Fantasy 5! I know that is where the money is, but I can't figure out how to win!!

I am a boxer mainly,unless its very hot combo.
Still looking for the most efficient method
to get the most hits from one workout
keeps me boxing until then.
