  The trouble with Pick-3 books is there is no formula/strategy that can be put into a set of rules that will play at a profit over time.  Either the presented method(s) must end with a loss due to the low payouts of the game or the method has a pivot point where the reader must make a choice (without any valid reason for doing so) that will result in either a win or a loss. 
  
  For people who are serious about Pick-3 you must have a natural feel for the game that allows you to see numbers coming like a train down the track.  Either you have it or the sooner you realize you don't the sooner you can switch to a more profitable hobby.

  Taking Chances by John Haigh isn't a book to help you win the lottery, you will find no new ideas or strategies in there.  While it doesn't hurt to have a basic understanding of probability when dealing with negative expectation games, much of what is supposed to help you avoid bad bets means you avoid them all often with suspect advice as to what makes a smarter bet such as waiting for the prize to exceed the odds which doesn't make sense for lottery.  What you really learn is basic wagering is a roller coaster ride of decreasing ups and downs as your wins don't make up for the losses.  This is where big lottery shines because you only need to win once as any major win makes up for all reasonable losses and then you're rich.  BobP
