This is a tough one, Emily. I'm not sure it's entirely possible to honor each one literally. I look at them spiritually. I mean, how can a soldier justify "Thou Shalt Not Kill" (or some translations say "Murder") if he/she lives by these virtues? Then we'd have to edit the Bible by adding.....only if your President decides to invade a foreign country. It also doesn't say "people" so many vegans I know who don't eat or wear animals or their byproducts feel this commandment extends to all living creatures. Honor thy Father & thy Mother might be your Father God, The Creator and Mother Nature if you were an abused child. Everyday we read about children who were raped and tortured by their parents. I don't think a Loving God would expect them to honor a father who has broken the most sacred rule of all. As far as coveting goes, most of us wouldn't be buying lottery tickets if we didn't want more than we have already and just accept what God has given us without question.
