Was America Founded on Christian Morals?

To anyone reading this, it is a reply/rebuttal to a specific person.  If you're anyone but him, you're more than welcome to PM me on anything I've written. I'll respect your viewpoint but only if you're respectful of mine.  I don't have comments enabled because I don't want to have to reply to each and every one, sorry,  and frankly, I don't come in here regularly.  If you would rather email me, just use my L.P. username @ Gmail.com. I like email, at least personal ones.  I'm not too fond of those I get from Nigerian princes or wanting me to buy something to enlarge a certain body part, but...who is? Wink

So, that said, here's a To Whom It May Concern:

I object to you putting words in my mouth.  I NEVER said this country was founded on Christianity, only turned that quote around to say most Democrats are Godless.  Even though I did engage in a bit of hyperbole, I'd be willing to wage a healthy sum that most atheists vote Democrat.

If you want a rebuttal w/out me copying and pasting quotes from the writings of OTHER Founding Fathers, then you should Google "was America founded on Christian morals". If you don't care to wade though all the articles on just the first page of the results, then I would direct you to at least skim over these articles; Importance of Morality and Religion in Government on Wallbuilders, and an excellent, balanced piece on Forbes - Was America Founded As A Christian Nation? You'll see, to quote the first article in the results on Heritage.org "In short, while America did not have a Christian Founding in the sense of creating a theocracy, its Founding was deeply shaped by Christian moral truths.". Jefferson, the sole example in your post,  was a unique man, a brilliant one, but so were other Founding Fathers, many of which had opposing views.

You will need to post more than a single source to convince me.

Also, to accuse me of being a bigot is hypocritical of you.  Who was it that first leveled the "toothless trailer park trash" charge at me?  Both you and your despicable running buddy have done that.  Of course, that and you've also gone on about me being a tobacco chewing redneck who has a gun to compensate for a small penis, both of which are only directed towards white men.  If you don't want it returned back at you in spades, then you never should have said that to begin with.   I'll stop it when you do.

Plus, the "toothless" charge is rich.  I remember a thread not all that long ago, one of those "What would you buy first with your winnings?" threads that pop up in here from time-to-time (and I "5-star" them b/c they're interesting and I learn a lot about my fellow forum members), YOU said "Dental implants".  So...project much?

Then there's your assumption I am a Christian;  I'm not.  I prefer to label myself as an "Optimistic Agnostic".  That said, I think the idea of a Divine Creation is every bit as plausible as that of the Big Bang theory.   Besides that, how can something(religion) that gives someone comfort and (almost always) causes no one else a bit of harm be a bad thing?  Yes, I do find many religious practices and rituals to be strange and even if I were a Christian, I wouldn't be...oh, let's just say... a Catholic or a Baptist.  I'd also draw the line on handling venomous snakes and drinking poison, but that's just common sense.  I don't want to disparage those religions, though, because after all, it's a free country w/ freedom of religion ...or the freedom to reject it.

The Bible says God made man in His image, but I wonder if it's not the other way around.  I WANT to believe in a Christian God, but I don't want to worship a Deity who is capable of being conned by flattery or cajoled by trinkets, one who would send a Jew to Hell for not believing Jesus is their own personal Savior (or for eating a ham sandwich) or eternally condemn a homosexual for not being able to resist loving someone of their own sex.  I desperately want to believe in a loving God, that we truly are His children and I fervently hope there's something more impressive behind the Cosmos than a vengeful Supreme Being.  Until that time I leave this mortal coil and see for myself just what, if anything, there is in the afterlife, I will just "let the mystery be".

I DO vehemently disagree with unchecked illegal immigration because a nation without borders is no nation at all.  True, it's only a misdemeanor to enter this country illegally, but to stay and work here means they have to either obtain fraudulent documents or commit identity theft, both of which are felonies and which are more than enough cause to deport them.  They should be deported and anyone who aids and abets them should be tried and convicted and sent to prison.  If that makes me a bigot in your eyes, then go ahead and remain wrong.  We are a nation of laws and no one, not me or you or a member of Congress...or even the illegal down the street from me should be allowed to break the law.  (I could walk down the street swinging a dead cat and hit four or five before I got to the end of my block)

I also am not a Republican.  Texas doesn't require voters to register with a party, but my last voter's registration card is stamped "Republican" b/c I voted in that party's primary....where I cast my ballot for someone other than Trump.  I am a conservative "small L" libertarian and often vote for Libertarian candidates in most contested Texas races if there's one on the ballot.  I also often leave the ballot un-ticked for candidates running unopposed or who have served more than a couple of terms.

It's no secret, at least not to anyone who has read any of my forum posts on politics, that I disliked Trump.  I voted for him because I thought the alternative wasn't acceptable...found it horrifying, actually.  (and the Libertarian candidate far too progressive to suit me) I'm willing to give him a chance, the same as I did Obama.  (I didn't like him, but he WAS "my President") I'm slowly warming up to Trump and am positive most, if not all, of the charges made against him are unfounded.  (yes, the latest charge is true, that he drove his golf cart across the putting green...on his own golf course.  He can pee in his own kitchen sink as far as I care.)

To read your whining words about Trump after you stated you didn't vote...well, that chaps my butt, about the closest thing to a trigger point for me.   When I was working on drilling rigs, sometimes someone would starting griping about things the prior shift had left undone.  "Worry 'bout yer own eight." was always my reply to them, meaning they should concentrate on what there was to do on our own eight hour shift.  To see you constantly bitch and moan about Trump while admitting to not even bothering to get off your butt and go vote - or apparently not campaigning for Hillary or even sending her a dime - means you don't have a moral leg to stand on b/c you didn't even make a modicum of effort to keep Trump out of office.   You should "worry 'bout yer own eight".

As far as your own insults to me are concerned, I'll leave you with one more old Texas adage:  "Sweep around your own door."
