I may have left physically, but I'm still there.

Those were the heroes that never received their "Well Done" appreciation from this country. I now live in a assisted living facility with one of those Heroes with a missing arm. He has a fantastic sense of humor and he and his wife of 53 years, never fail to stop my table, to say good morning.

MD, I am not sure, but I believe my brother was in that same group, in the early 60's.

@ CARBOB; I was in from 66 to 73. Ft. Bragg N.C. to Vietnam, and back to Ft. Bragg

I would have made a career out my enlistment, but got disgusted from people who did not care.

@MD, He was in from 1954-1984. He served two tours in Nam. He also retired from VA Hospital in Fayetteville, still lives there.

@ CARBOB, also served 2 1/2 tours in Nam. If you can find out where he was stationed while there.
Thanks. Served in Nam July 67 to Nov 68. Back again In August 69 to August 70.

My thanks to all the Nam Vets

I didn't go to Nam lost a lot of friends their. Served in the Army from 68 to 71 nevertheless was accused of being a baby killer for umpteen years.

My best friend a Marine was killed playing quick draw the night before he was to come home from Nam.

I always feel bad about not going but my brothers in arms tell me i should be glad and thank God i didn't go.

Why didn't i go you might be wondering sprained left ankle real bad 2nd week at airborne school Ft. Benning then several months later got the living crap beat out of me by 6 would be robbers at Ft. Meade Spent 6 months in the hospital.

Must chime in as a 60's vet also doing draftee service in Ft Meade & Washington DC, the most dangerous city in the world working early warning systems - well on my watch we weren't invaded, not since the British 1812 :-)

Upon separation I did a stint with homecoming walking wounded with VA Hospital Bed Side Radio Network

My Salute to all my courageous bothers & sisters who gave all they have for our nation & then, were all too soon, FORGOTTEN :-(

Great post MADDOG; much respect for your courageous service in Vietnam, same for CARBOB and Coin Toss. I was only 11 years old in 1973 but remember seeing the nightly images and reports from the front lines back in the day when I suppose the MSM was semi-trustworthy anyway. Too young back then to understand what was transpiring in Vietnam, but I later bought a bunch of books and took the initiative to study up on the war over the years. One of the most informative and authoritative books on the subject for me was Stanley Karnow's VIETNAM, an historical account of the war in Vietnam, published in 1983. Still a fascinating subject for me to this day. Always had the the highest respect for Vietnam Vets. Disgraceful the treatment many of them received upon return to the USA after the war ended, or otherwise upon completing tours of duty. Wouldn't happen under the President we have today!

Again I would Like to thank everyone for their responses. I am grateful for my fellow Veterans where ever they served. It's also Heartwarming when people come up to me now because I wear my Hat, and Say " Thank You for your Service ". As I said previous, Physically I left Vietnam, but Vietnam has never left me.
