On November 2, 1920, station KDKA made the nation's first commercial broadcast (a term coined by Conrad himself). They chose that date because it was election day, and the power of radio was proven when people could hear the results of the Harding-Cox presidential race before they read about it in the newspaper.

Remember the mental magic of live on air Radio AM Waves ~~~~~ for Theater when families gathered around a stand up Philco Console using their individual imagination for visuals for weekly mystery programs with live actors with special effects such as:
On air Radio Theater:
The Shadow
The Fat Man
The Green Hornet
The Lone Ranger
Sky King
War of the Worlds
etc

I remember radio before the days of TV.
Listened to many shows.
