It's not so much that people believe the income tax is right, any more than people believe that carjacking is acceptable behavior.
It is simply that most people understand that cooperating is usually better than the alternatives. You only have the rights that are either enforced on your behalf or that you can enforce yourself. In this case, the gov't can apply more force than you.

I forgot to mention, Federal Express is (currently) more public than the Federal Reserve. You can buy shares in FedEx. :-)

I believe that income tax originated during Lincoln's tenure. It is not in the Constitution as 99.99% of our current laws are not. It is a foolish tax which discourages production and most of all savings. That is why we have the lowest savings rate of all industrialized nations.

Abolish the income tax and instill a consumption tax. The Fair Tax Act calls for this.

See how far that goes in a court of law when you do not file taxes.

Social security tax use to be voluntary for many occupations too.
They use to call it social security contribution.

Thank the democrats for taxes.

To Jap69,
Most people will not challenge the system because they are afraid of it. You're right, nearly all the people who go into a courtroom without doing their homework first will be guaranteed to lose. But if you take the time and sift through all the info out there, and if it's worth doing it for not just the principle of not having to pay for something you really don't owe, or just to make an example for everyone to follow, then it's not worth the effort in the first place.

Take the recent events of Ed Brown, and his standoff with the IRS. Just 6 days ago he held a party at his 100 acre home ground in New Hampshire. There were choppers flying over his house. Homeland security choppers....

Ed brown, a successful business owner decided not to pay anymore taxes. After yars of paying about 130 grand a year in taxes, he dicide it was high time to stand up. He owes about 700 grand in back taxes, and he claims he doesen't owe it. In Jan of 2007, a court decided to put him and his wife away for 63 months as punishment for income tax evasion. He stocked up on weapons and boarded up his house.

The cops and Marshalls surrounded his house on June 20, 2007, asking him to surrender. Till this day he is still refusing to give up.

I forgot to mention that this whole thing started when he looked at what happend in Waco TX. He then decided to see what other kind of incidents by the government was going on. One out come was that he started to but money orders to pay his mortgage. Once he paid off his mortgage, he stopped buying money orders. The IRS took that as a flag and started this whole investigation.

This is no different than what our forefathers were fighting for. They didn't want corruption in their land and made laws to "Protect" the people. I guess they must be rolling in their graves.
