Presiden-elect Obama chose Rahm Emanuel as his chief of staff Thursday.  Rahm and Obama both are from Chicago and Rahm has brought his Chicago Thug methods with him to Washington.

A former Clinton whiz kid who'd gotten his start as a fundraiser for Mayor Richard M. Daley, Emanuel was connected -- in the three years after leaving the White House (where he'd helped push through NAFTA), he earned $16 million putting together Wall Street mergers. He was also zealously partisan. He had once owned a consulting business devoted to finding skeletons in Republican closets. At a Clinton vicory dinner in Little Rock in 1992, Emanuel celebrated by reciting a hoped-for necrology of Democrats who had "ed" the president-elect. After every name, he stabbed a steak knife into a table and screamed, "Dead man!" 

Rahm Emanuel is a Democratic version of Karl Rove, a pitbull known for intense partisanship and using the F-bomb. This is not a man who is going to reach across the aisle and unite anybody.  The only good thing I see in Rahm Emanuel is that he will stand up to those that want to move further to the left like Pelosi and Reid if it does not agree with Obama's plan.  Afterall, Rahm was there when Clinton went too far left and saw the resulting election victories for Republicans.

Thanks for the post. This is a dangerous time for America. One can imagine with this guy as chief of staff how Obama's Civilian Security Force will be used.

Please excuse my ignorance, but can't a Chief of Staff also be fired? At a time of crisis we need experienced people who are "zealous" and will get things done. As I wrote on another blog, the man hasn't even taken office and he's already being criticized for what he hasn't accomplished.

justxploring, Rahm Emanuel has a long history with the Democratic party, well known for his intense partisanship and foul language. Obama promised to unite us, to reach across the aisle. If this is what he meant by that, then I must have misunderstood what "unite" and "reach across the aisle" meant. To my view, the choice of Rahm Emanuel only says that Obama plans on being relentless in the pursuit of his goals, regardless of politics, regardless of unity, and regardless of what might be best for this country.

You judge people by the people they surround themselves with. Obama has not impressed me with the choices of people around him. I just pray to God that his past associations with Ayers, Wright, etc are not representative of the man today. That is not the "Change We Need".

Ayers, Wright, Khalidi, Emanuel, Bush, McCain, Powell, Buffett, etc. all which are associates, do not define Barack Obama. It is only our opinion of these people, who we do not really "know," that drive our opinions of what defines him!! Food for thought....

Obama is defined by the people he chose to closely associate himself with over the past several years Ayers, Wright, Khalidi, Khalid as Mansour. They are all well defined by an accurately documented history radical anti-American philosophy.
