Details are still sketchy, but IL state police have confirmed they are searching an area near Peoria for Drew Peterson's wife who disappeared in Oct. 2008.  TMZ has reported that Peterson confided to a fellow inmate the body's location and the name of an accomplice who helped dispose of the body.  According to their report, the accomplice has led them to the area and cadaver dogs may have confirmed the location.

Thanx for the heads up. Hadn't heard about this case in a long time. Refresh my memory. Did his 3rd wife drown in a bathtube but they only looked again at that death as suspicious after his 4th wife dissapeared?

TigerAngel, yes, that's the one. He is going to trial for the murder of his third wife but the evidence is based heavily on circumstantial evidence and hearsay...a LOT of hearsay. IL even changed their hearsay law (called Drew's Law) because of his case. That's why this new development is so important. Prosecutors would like to get forensic evidence so they can charge him for Stacy's murder with a stronger case. Stacy was murdered because he admitted to her that he killed his third wife and she in turn told others.

I live only a couple miles from Peterson and many locals were involved in searching for Stacy. The feeling around here is that he's guilty of both murders.

Not to diminish the value of one human being in this story, and Rick, you do always have really good blog posts, but whenever I read about one person missing or presumed dead anywhere on the net, I'm automatically reminded that about the 20,000 children who die everyday in 3rd world countries.....20,000!!!!!

That's 20,000 hearts that have stopped beating....

@time*treat...lol....yes, he was one of those "finest men in blue"...which is exactly why he got away with the first murder, from the first officers on the scene all the way to the county coroner. There was virtually NO investigation of the third wife's murder crime scene....just like there was no water in the bath tub she "drowned" in. This was a textbook case of the men in blue protecting their own.

@Pac, I agree. It's a travesty. Every single life is precious and children even more-so.

@konane, I think you're thinking of the Scott and Laci Peterson case (ironic name similarities) in CA. I don't think Stacy was pregnant. Another odd coincidence is we have another missing woman, Lisa Stebic, whose husband is suspected in her disappearance that occurred about 6 months before this one and in another suburb not far from this one. That case is also unsolved and circumstances are similar. Both cases have garnered a lot of attention in my neck of the woods.
