The Hat

It cleaned up real nice.  Best Christmas gift I've had in years.  Probably still would be if it weren't the only Christmas gift I've had in years.

Makes me wish I knew a Quaker I could show it off to so's he could shoot me a compliment by telling me, "It looks real plain."

Only thing wrong with that picture is that I betrayed the difficulty I was having keeping from grinning.  Holding a camera out at arm length and trying to take a picture of your new hat can be like that.

Smiling good thoughts at you blogsterisimos.  But not grinning.  That's what self-discipline's all about.  Remember where you heard it.

ok Jack, here ya go: a line from the movie WITNESS with Harrison Ford, great film "You look plain". Except technically you wouldn't because you have fancied up your beard by shaving it into a configuration. The writer's of that film are from my town and I've seen it maybe 8 times. It's got to be on my top 20 favorite movies list. Worth seeing if you're ever so inclined. Or perhaps that's where you got the line from. BTW, nice nose, not a meatball, TA

My thought is, TA, that the 'you look plain' method of observing a desirable plainness must be fairly standard among Amish and Mennonites.

It's not a look I've ever strived for, but I don't mind it. However, I also like my cavalry whiskers and when I can get by with having it, my curly locks. Even the wattles on the neck suit me fine, though I haven't cultivated them and haven't always had them, so far as I recall.

But I resent the suggestion that nose ain't a meatball, a potato. It runs proud and has a long history through multiple generations of my family. That, and the flop-ears you can't see because of my curly locks.

Genes, DNA and life have gone to a lot of trouble to give me that nose. I won't have you minimizing it by suggesting it ain't a meatball.

Don't know where, however, that eye that looks slightly off in the wrong direction so's if I was a horse you wouldn't buy me comes from. Might be from the time my sister hit me in the head with a baseball bat.

Thanks for the comment
