Hard To Watch But As Long As School Bullying Continues, There'll Be Videos Like This :(

An emotional video showing a teenage student’s distress after years of homophobic bullying has prompted hundreds of messages of global concern and support for him.

“You’re loved.” “We support you.” “It gets better.” “Stay strong.” These are just a few of the encouraging comments flooding in for Jonah Mowry.

As word spreads about the video this week, out gay ex-Star Trek actor George Takei and American author Anne Rice – who is the mother of a gay son – have been among several notables urging people to take a look and spread the word.

There is a very interesting timeline on this video. I first saw it around 4 am Sunday morning - a celebrity blogger was tweeting the link to his followers (well over 3 million). When I first clicked on the link and watched the video, I was moved to tears - I couldn't believe how sad and concerned I was over this kid - I couldn't get him outta my head - I wanted to know if he was okay.

At that time, there were less than a thousand views. By the end of the day, there were nearly 1 million. Through the actions of one blogger (with many followers), Jonah Mowry's video went viral - his video inspired people to mirror his video with their own "confessions" and words of encouragement. People set up We Support Jonah Mowry Facebook pages and tried to get the hashtag #JonahMowry to trend on Twitter. The Social Networks were on fire and the Jonah Mowry Movement was in full effect!

Now the thing is Mowry's video was filmed and put on YouTube back in August.   Now, three months later, this blogger decides to make it his cause for the day and - wham - young Jonah Mowry is an internet sensation with celebrities like Jane Lynch, Rosie O'Donnell, Paula Abdul and Ricki Martin sending him tweets about his powerful and inspirational video - telling him to hang in there, stay strong, take care of himself, etc.. Young Mowry was overwhelmed by all attention now generated by his video. I say "now" for a reason.....

Fact is NOW, TODAY Jonah Mowry is doing just fine! So he posted a video yesterday thanking everyone for their support but before that he
posts another video addressing people who are laughing at him for having no friends and defends himself by saying he has lots of friends. In fact, he states that EVERYONE in his school LOVES him - i

Some people had a problem with the "everyone at school loves me comment" - in the video posted above he says he's scared to go to school because alot of people in his school hate him (it's the part that's really sad and heartbreaking). Folks accused Jonah of fraud and called this 14-year-old boy a drama queen/attention whore.

So then Jonah posted yet another video explaining that he posted "What's goin on" over the summer at a very low point in his life. However, when school started, he came out of the proverbial closet and, because he was finally open about his sexuality, most of the bullying stopped. My guess is that it probably gained him a lot of support among many of his peers - kids are getting smarter, they know bullying sucks and they know a lot of kids are committing suicide after being bullied.

Unfortunately, alot of people didn't watch that last video but they did watch the second one and now, Jonah, is getting "bullied" online by people who feel duped! Can you believe that?? I guess people think it's fun to pick on an 8th grade kid... I can understand that from other kids, but I see it coming from people my age - and that sickens me. Apparently now we penalize little kids because they don't speak clearly and concisely, because they have not yet learned how easy it is for people to take their words out of context.
