Michigan Lottery: Theft of lottery tickets wins Michigan man trip to jail
A Michigan man arrested in late May for the burglary of the Lake Nepessing Road Party Store and theft of lottery tickets has won a trip to prison.
Gerald Werth, 41, of Flint was sentenced to 18 months to 10 years in prison Monday by Lapeer Circuit Judge Nick O. Holowka.
Werth was on parole for previous burglary convictions when he broke through the back wall of the store, 434 Lake Nepessing Road, and left with liquor, cigarettes and lottery tickets.
He was arrested after detectives tracked him through security camera photos at Flint-area party stores, where he cashed in winning scratch off lottery tickets.
None of the lottery tickets involved large jackpots, and a search of the home of a relative turned up much of the property stolen from the store, said Lapeer County Sheriff's Detective Lt. Gary Parks.
