New Yorkers going ape for $50M 'King Kong' lottery
New York Lottery: New Yorkers going ape for $50M 'King Kong' lottery
It's the gorilla of all lotteries.
The state lottery's new "King Kong Millions" game is guaranteeing a jackpot of at least $50 million, spurring New Yorkers yesterday to line up for their first crack at tickets.
"If I win, I want to run up to the top of the Empire State Building and yell, 'Yeah!'" said Carol Roy, 58, of the Bronx, who forked over $2 for a King Kong Millions ticket.
On Dec. 5, state lottery officials will head to the top of the Empire State for the one-time drawing - part of a tie-in to next month's release of director Peter Jackson's remake of the classic film.
The jackpot will grow based on ticket sales, lottery officials said.
Five second-place winners will take home $1 million each, and 10 third-place winners will get $100,000 apiece.
An associated King Kong Millions scratchoff game starts Nov. 30 - with a top prize of $8 million, the biggest-ever single jackpot for a New York State scratchoff game.
This is the first time the lottery has ever teamed up with Hollywood to promote a game.
Empire State Building guard John Hyman was among the first lottery players yesterday.
"King Kong is what made this building," said Hyman, of the Bronx. "I'm hoping the first million goes to someone here."

Will this game have your typical baby kong payouts associated with the good old NY lottery?

It's another NY Lottery ripoff-only 40% of sales will go towards prizes. And I'm sure the scratch game will be annuity-only.

I talked to clerks in two stores that I go to, neither said sales were anything to talk about. Did see stacks of "how to" sheets. Any time you need a stack of sheets to play, I stay away.

From the Play rules:
."Choose a jackpot prize payment option. Just like Lotto and Mega Millions you may choose cash value or 26 annuity payment. All 2nd and 3rd prizes will be paid in cash."
Its an interesting game because its the highest scratch-offer that allows for cash. And for only two dollars minimum bet!
I'll side with any game that allows such a nice payout with only a few plays!

A two dollar minimum is the deterent to me. Mega Million is a one dollar game. Power Ball is a one dollar game. Not being one to worry about odds, the number will fall and some one will have them or not, I like the one dallar multi-million games. I find myself leary of games that need gimmicks.

KKM is not a scratch game. There will be a King Kong instant game, but I expect it to be annuity-only.

Most scratch off games are annuity. The low income buy them, and a lot of them have no idea of what annuity means. All they see is the advertised amount. Standing around sveral stores, I see latino after latino going in there and buying tickets. You know they're proficient with the small print concept!

I won't play a game that doesn't allow you to choose your own numbers. Period.

Scratch off games paid for my remote starter two years ago. Sure enjoy it when the temperature falls. Will start using it again any day now. Click, click, warm truck. Better then KFC!
I play the lotto for the big bucks, the scratch off for the small(er) bucks.

It won't surprise me if the KKM jackpot doesn't rise. Mega Millions is the REAL king of the NY Lottery right now.
