Unclaimed $800,000 Powerball Lottery Ticket Expires Today

Powerball Powerball: Unclaimed $800,000 Powerball Lottery Ticket Expires Today

Today is the last day left in the life of an $800,000 Powerball ticket that was sold last December in Memphis, Tennessee.

As with all of the Tennessee Lottery's numbers-pick games, players have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim their prize.

Since the ticket was purchased for the Dec. 10, 2005 drawing, the ticket expires on Friday.

The Lottery encourages players who purchased a ticket for that drawing to check their pockets, keepsake boxes, mattresses, to be sure their ticket isn't this one, which contained all five white ball numbers: 03-21-34-42-45 Powerball 39.

Since the ticket was purchased using the Power Play option, the $200,000 prize for matching all five of the white balls was multiplied by four (the multiplier chosen for that drawing).

As with all Powerball prizes of $99,999 and above, the ticket must be verified and claimed at the Lottery's Nashville headquarters.

Currently, state law requires that once prizes are officially unclaimed, half of the money goes to after-school programs; the other half will be used to offset future prize expenses. However, once new legislation takes effect, unclaimed prize money of up to $18 million will be used for after-school programs.

I live in TN, I know people who buy lottery tickets in Memphis and I often do. Is there a way to find the name of the store which sold the ticket?

Well I know it wasn't me, since I've never been to Tennessee.

Anyone who has read my posts knows how I feel about this subject.  I know this $800,000 doesn't make any difference to me, since I don't buy PB tickets, but it boggles the mind. After taxes I could buy a nice home for cash and a new car or just invest it and travel until I drop in 20 or 30 years.

Okay - I have something to bring up on this matter.  Isn't this a valid reason for telling someone else you bought some tickets and where you keep them?  I mean, the winner probably lost the ticket and/or doesn't even realize he has it, but what if someone really did die or go into the hospital? AFAIK my father would never buy a lottery ticket in a million years, but a Fantasy 5 ticket expired Friday in Delray Beach where he lives and he's been in and out of the hospital. When you're sick, a lottery ticket might not be the first thing on your mind.  I didn't ask, but it was one of those fleeting thoughts.
