The above table list the distribution of prizes and cash amounts.  It doesnt indicate anywhere that $500 million in prizes are being disbursed.

Staying focused on the topic will hope those who are interested in learning the stats along with the overall odds. Ya gotta play to win!

To some folks in New Jersey it is alot of money to lose. Its all on how you see it. I personally see it as an opportunity to win! To each their own though.

One day your life will flash before your eyes, make sure its one worth watching.

$20 is too much when the odds of getting something back hover around 1 in 1,000.

I think it's is too much for a lottery ticket and if everyone agreed with me anything above $1 would stay on the shelf and these games would all lose money.  But apparently 500,000 people think $20 is just fine to spend on a single lottery ticket, so the marketplace has spoken.

I agree that $20 a pop is a lot of money. This is an interesting thread, since it really wasn't mentioned when we were discussing the Florida raffle.  I almost bought a few, but I waited too long.  All the hype finally got to me and I even had the money in my wallet ready to play, but they sold out very quickly. But I also kept thinking that if I didn't hit anything, losing $40 or $60 dollars on one game would be too much.  The odds were advertised as "the best ever" because 10 people will win a million on New Year's Day.  However, since they are selling $1,250,000 tickets, 1,249,990 people won't be that lucky!  I hope members who bought them like Floridian or DoubleDown win, but we'll probably never hear about it.  Suddenly they'll disappear from LP and we'll all wonder "what ever happened to......?"

Most of the states selling these "raffle" tickets have had no problem selling out the entire subscriotion. And every one I've seen so far has had the payout percentage right at 50%.

Justxploring, that is an interesting thought/question?  How many LP members would leave after a big win?  I thought to myself, venture over, at least you are playing with better odds and I did.  I am headed to Philly and NJ in a couple of days, wish I could get a ticket for ya...but we are in no club...and you know how that goes. LOL!

Do you know if the top prizes in the Michigan raffle have a cash option? AFAIK all other lottery raffles are lump sum.

Illinois currently has 5 different ten dollar cards with million dollar prizes and one $20 card with a $2 million prize.

The tens suck, but believe it or not, the 20's actually aren't that bad.  I've gotten 2 $400's, a $200, and about 6 $100's and many $50's on it.  They really fly off the shelves too.  Obviously, not many people around Chicago have an issue with the price of the 20 card.  Sometimes when I want one, they're sold out in less than a day.  60 card packs of them.  And the $2 million is one lump sum, not annuity so that's cool.

For anybody with a lick of sense it isn't just how much the ticket costs and the odds. The potential winnings are  just as important. You'd be a moron if you thought $20 was too much to spend for a 1 in 1000 chance of winning a million bucks, but you'd be an even bigger fool if you bought a $1 ticket with a 1  in 5 chance of winning $1.

20 dollars for a shot to be rich,,,hell no.  You be better off buying essentials like food, medicine, gas and new package of boxerbriefs....even though 20 won't go far today,  but it does help to buy important stuff etc etc.Hippy
