Ticket worth $800,000 will expire April 14

The clock is ticking on an unclaimed Powerball ticket worth $800,000.

That ticket, which was purchased for the October 17, 2007, drawing will expire if not claimed by 5 p.m. on April 14.

The ticket that matched the five white balls was purchased at Jai Mataji Inc. at 121 Julian Place in Troutman. The numbers on the white balls for that drawing were 14-15-19-42-46.

The player also purchased the Power Play option for an extra dollar, and since the Power Play multiplier for the drawing was a four, the prize was increased from the normal payout of $200,000 up to $800,000.

If not claimed, the Lottery Act designates that half of the unclaimed prize will be distributed to the Education Lottery Fund while the other half will go back into prizes.

Thanks to Konane for the tip.

seems very unlikely to me that it will be turned in at all

is this not particularly sad for those of you who've been chasing a big win for years? Sad

Man I cringe everytime I read one of these stories.....If it was from one of the stores I buy my tickets I would be double checking every ticket I could find in the house...even if I new that those numbers weren't close to what I play....

This is one of those things where it'd be better NOT to know and ignorance would be bliss because if I found out it was me or even if I lost a winning ticket worth that much I might completly lose it. Hell, I'd probably lose it if it was a $150, though not nearly as severe.

Someone could have bought it, died and had it thrown out by family cleaning up and throwing away their "trash".

With odds like 1 in 175,711,536 how can I lose?!

You can't predict random.

Man, that is a lot of money that someone is going to lose out on. If the ticket expires and no one claims it, it's probably best that whoever has the ticket never finds out. They would probably have a heart attack. No Nod

I dreamed I was in NC and bought a winning PB ticket.  Does that count?

Maybe I should go down there and crawl around the parking lot, saying it must have fell out of my (laptop case?) and if the "real" winner comes out then I can go into prizefighting. I'll calll myself "Power Battle" or something.

Why do they wait until a week before it expires to announce such? Usually on big jackpots they announce it within a week but for lesser prizes they get ignored.

People play because it's their routine but they get busy or disorganized (I have a blizzard of tickets in a box at my table here) and so used to seeing they had maybe maybe one of five, or they got the bonus ball and it's only 2 or 3 dollars so they lose interest once seeing they didn't match the BB not realizing maybe they got the other 5 numbers.

If someone lost a ticket and knew it was winning from the get-go they would be feverishly looking for it.

I remember recently in a dark parking lot, I saw a stray ticket *under* a vehicle, and turned it into the store. Yes it was QP. I noted what the #s were. 3 of 5 match. No idea if its owner got it back. What if that had been 5+1 and I had not spotted it and then a sweeper sucked it up etc.? Remember QP so whoever bought it didn't remember the #s. And a year later the Lottery saying "unclaimed ticket due to expire!"

That will never happen to any of us.

It seems we at LP are very serious players and EXPECT to win,  therefore all tickets are accounted for and all tickets are checked and double checked minutes after the drawing or at least  the next morning.  And If the winner is from your state, how many of you triple check the tickets?  I definately would.  I would even check the tickets when the numbers drawn are definately not mine, as though my numbers miraculously turned into the matching quick pick numbers! Go figure.

The state lotteries have someone assigned to dream that the lottery paid people having such dreams, so as far as they're concerned everything is all evened up.

Scared

It's Lotto, not horseshoes or artillery!

Very sad story.

$800,000 is a lot of money.  I hope someone does claim the money.

The ticket was probaly thrown away by a careless person who probaly doesnt even remember which numbers they chose. It'll be dissapointing if the ticket still is not clamied by April 14th.
