N.C. man wins $200,000 on his first-ever lottery ticket
North Carolina Lottery: N.C. man wins $200,000 on his first-ever lottery ticket
Talk about luck. Herbert Marsh of High Point, North Carolina, won $200,000 the first time he played the lottery. Going on a feeling something good would happen, Marsh bought a Powerball ticket for the Wednesday drawing that matched all five numbers. Marsh told the North Carolina Education Lottery he plans to buy a new car with some of the money and put the rest in savings. He purchased his ticket at the Kangaroo Express on National Highway in Thomasville. Another Triad resident also recently won money. Katherine Lolling of Graham won $175,000 playing the "Big Ol' Bucks" instant scratch-off game Sunday at the Kangaroo Express #3172 on South Main Street in Graham. Lolling scratched the ticket while still in the store, with the cashier watching and crossing her fingers for luck. She said she will use some of the money to pay off bills. On Saturday in the "Carolina Cash 5" drawing, one ticket matched all five numbers and is worth $178,165. That ticket was sold at the Quick Mart on West Main Street in Jamestown. The prize has yet to be claimed.

If Mr Marsh had only selected the PowerPlay option for one more dollar, his winnings would have been $800,000 instead of $200,000.
$200,000 is certainly not chump change, but $800,000 sounds sexier...

Congrats to him. I wish I was that lucky. Ditto though if I did win it'd likely be followed up by something horrible since that's how the very little luck I have, tends to work. With odds like 1 in 175,711,536 how can I lose?!

I live about 15 minutes from this guy and he has become somewhat of a local hero. I ate at the resturant where he works at last night and customers were asking him to help them pick numbers. I would have asked also, but i didn't want to disturb the man. I know he probably gets it a lof here recently

We should have a perpetual "Luck Factor" thread in Discussions, or its own forum, and it should be required reading for any one who doubts that's it's just luck, or that the Lottery Fairy either likes you or doesn't! It's Lotto, not horseshoes or artillery! close doesn't count! I sell everything at a loss but make up for it in volume - Milo Minderbinder, Catch-22

Which just goes to illustrate, once again, that if you are "meant" to win a high tier prize or jackpot, it doesn't matter how you get there ; other than buying a ticket.
A dollar on a big jackpot game can win just as easily as buying 100 tickets, because the overall odds are so huge that you can't make a dent in them.....and each ticket/line purchased has the same probability of being drawn. ============
