Tickets sold in Delaware, Pennsylvania

Two tickets for the Powerball game Saturday night — one sold in Delaware and the other in Pennsylvania — matched all five numbers plus the Powerball drawn to win a share of the top prize.

The winning tickets will share a jackpot prize of $174.4 million, or $87.2 million each.

The winning numbers — 3-16-20-42-58, Powerball: 7 — were drawn in Orlando, Florida last night at 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

The Power Play number was 5.

The jackpot has been building since Jan. 21, and has been drawn 11 times without a top prize winner.  The grand prize goes to an estimated $20 million for Wednesday.

Tickets that match the first five numbers, but miss the Powerball, win $200,000 each, and there were two of those, sold in Kentucky and New Hamphshire.  Neither was purchased with the Power Play option, which would have mutilplied their prizes to $1 million each.

The next Powerball drawing is Wednesday night.

Happy  First Sunday.of Lent......

..I love PA as much as anyone and have friends who were born and raised there.....the Eagels are AWESOME..however, it seems like aeverytime there's a winner it's from either PA, INDI, IL, MO  I Bet the winners were "quik pick" because of the #58....anyway...while back at the ranch....CONGRATS TO THE WINNERS.....;..) I hope sooner rather than later one of us who purchases PB Tickets in the DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA....will pull an upset.......;...)

Wow, another PA winner... I guess the New Year won't be slowing PA down in winning. I wonder how many more PA winners there will be over the rest of the year.

With odds like 1 in 175,711,536 how can I lose?!

You can't predict random.

Ok I know that some of you's guys are gonna call me crazy but does anyone else see the irony is the latest PB winners? It just seems a little bit odd to me.

Okay......the Indiana players that won were from Ohio .....a MM state......and in the press release they stated they didn't like the current games in their state so they play in Indiana

and not too long ago the 315mill winner in Indiana was from Ohio......a MM state

Now these 2 winners from Delaware and Pennsylvania are both bordering New Jersey ....... a MM state that has made note publically that their lottery sales are slightly down.

The lady that won in NC was along the Virginia state line ........a MM state

The family that won in Tennessee was near Chattanooga that borders GA........a MM state

Now that I look at the map.........almost all of the states that border MM states are the ones that have the most PB winners......A perfect example of PB states that have alot of winners.....PA that borders 4 MM states. The state of Texas....there have been numerous winners in NM, OK, & LA. Va which borders 3 PB states

Then to bacisally stick its tongue back out at PB for doin this MM let the jackpot be raised to 330mill and it was split between the 4 MM states that border the PB states with the most hits......Va, Tx, Md, & NJ

Now say for instance PB controls where the jkpt will be hit. It would be an extreme embarrassment to MM if they lost a state to PB the way Georgia did to PB years ago. What if PB is allowing these jackpots to be hit near state lines for or in bordering MM states.    Does anyone else notice this or am I alone on this one....Skeptical

I call it opportunity. Whoever purchases a lottery ticket deserves a chance to win.

Congratulations to winners.

I am all in Mega Millions now for $2. Perhaps greed may urge me to wage another $10 buck with some strange combinations.

It's nice to see that multiple people have won the jackpot. It allows more then one person a chance to experience a big win. Congrats to them!

Congrats to the two winners.  Hurray!

Also, IF the PB and MM can control where the winners are this is an interesting theory.  Scared

Where in Delaware was the ticket purchased?

My mom is hoping it wasn't in Wilmington.  Something told her to buy a ticket the other day and she didnt do it.  Now she says she feels just sick about. What even funnier is that she also has a house in in the sourthern part of Deleware near the MD border and has been up and down the road all weekend passing numerous gas stations.  Better luck next  time I guess.

Have fun

Your mom can take solace in the fact that lots of people in Wilmington  bought tickets and won nothing.  She did the same and it cost her nothing.

Recently, I went to the Powerball site and looked up how many jackpots had been won between Indiana and Pennsylvania since PA joined in 2001.  Before the latest jackpot win, Indiana was leading 11 to 10. I thought this was very interesting since PA has always had at least twice as many overall prize winners each draw than Indiana.  In the Sat. 2-28-09 draw, PA had 200,000+ overall winners to Indiana's 46,000+. My basic theory has been that more often than not, the jackpot winner will come from an area where the most tickets are sold.  Since prize winning is based on certain odds, states that have the most winners will sell the most tickets. The fact that Indiana has averaged less overall prize winners than PA with as many winners of the jackpot seems to hurt my theory.

I have no doubt in PA's case that a lot of tickets are purchased by out of state players.  I know for a fact that one 7-11 in Wilmington, DE had two lottery machines with long lines back before PA joined Powerball.  These sales fell off after PA joined.  So I am sure in the Philadelphia area where many people from NJ come across the river to work, a lot of Powerball tickets are carried back home.  PA has a large population also to account for more sales.

In contrast to this, DE only had about 20,000 overall prize winners for the Sat. draw, showing that a winner can come from any populace once in awhile.  Since Florida joined Powerball, it has had more overall prize winners than any other state for every drawing until this 2-28 draw when they only had 185,000+. Previous to Florida joining, PA was the leader for overall winners. I would expect though that there will be a lot of winners in Florida eventually, since these figures should represent more ticket sales than any other state.

Yeah, like some of you are alluding, I also think the lotteries are fixed.

Now that would be the biggest conspiracy if a savvy journalist was to break the story to the world. And you know what, I highly suspect the government is in on it. The more people gamble, the more the government collects in taxes. You see, they collect when someone spends that dollar then collect 25% of the jackpot.  And besides, lotteries provide states with cheap revenues "for the children" relieving pressure from the federal government.

ha ha ha but that does not stop me from gambling, it never has.
