Lottery slaying now a 1st-degree case

Florida Lottery

TAMPA, Fla. — A grand jury indicted Dorice Donegan "Dee Dee" Moore on Thursday on a charge of first-degree murder in the death and disappearance of Florida Lottery winner Abraham Shakespeare.

Grand jurors returned a one-count indictment against Moore for premeditated murder.  It accuses Moore of shooting Shakespeare between April 1 and April 13.

The next step is for Moore to enter a plea to the charge during an arraignment before Circuit Judge Daniel Sleet. That has yet to be scheduled.

Shakespeare was last seen alive in April. He was shot twice in the chest and buried under a concrete slab on a Turkey Creek property owned by Moore.

Moore has given several versions of what happened to Shakespeare, including that she killed him in self-defense, that her son did it and that her attorney, D. Howard Stitzel III, did it.

She has also given several versions of why she took control of what was left of the nearly $13 million Shakespeare took home, after taxes, when he won the Florida Lottery in November 2006. Prosecutors said she siphoned $3.5 million of those winnings.

Prosecutors also added an illegal wiretapping charge against Moore, although it was not part of the grand jury review.

Moore was arrested Feb. 2 on a charge of accessory after the fact to a first-degree murder in Shakespeare's killing.

On Feb. 12, the state attorney's office for Hillsborough County upgraded the charge to first-degree murder.

Hillsborough Circuit Judge Walter Heinrich granted a defense request Thursday to reduce her bail on the accessory charge because prosecutors didn't file formal charges within 21 days as required by state law. Heinrich said Moore could be released on her own recognizance on that charge.

However, Heinrich told Moore the ruling did not affect his decision to hold her without bail on the murder charge.

I agree, I hope she doesn't get a nice ladies suit and wear her hair back and let the tears fly and get a single digit sentence. It's just not fair knowing that Mr. Shakespeare's family and friends will be without him for the rest of there lives.

I wonder how she came up with all of those killers..maybe two or more of them did the deed.  I am sorry, she looks like TT to me.  She is blonde and with all of those lies she is telling..I bet her brain is hurting. She felt like since she was white and all, Shakespear should be beholden to her for taking all of that dirty money off his hands.  I wonder how the court case will go but knowing Florida.. she may credit for time served. Prison is only for "them". After all, it wasn't like she was selling drugs or something.

Rosie,

We don't know each other's race so we can discuss freely the facts. Nobody has killed more black people than black people. People can focus on the Klan or cops or whatever and add them all together and they won't match up with black on black killing. Outrage over white on black killing is disingenuous while ignoring or condoning the real atrocity. I know you're much too smart to fall for the propaganda from the left. There is wholesale slaughter going on in the big cities and it is black on black, let's not stick our heads in the sand.

I don't see any reason to think she might get away with it, but let's assume it's a possibility. What other murder cases from the last 20 years resulted in an acquittal of somebody that was almost certainly guilty, and got so much media coverage that everybody in the country knows about it?

This thread could turn into something it shoud not, so this may be a good place to share some words of wisdom my father put on paper several years ago.

Enjoy! I aways thought this was one of his better poems.

Colorless

Sometimes men judge another
By the color of their skin.
And choose to forget in Noah's time
They were the closest kin.

Although man's color range
From white to dark as coal,
To our knowledge there is no difference
In the color of our souls.

You see GOD included all in sin
To show mercy through his son
And there are no stipulations
Regarding what color of man can come.

Does the color of our skins
Determine how we feel?
Does joy, pain or love
Become in anyway less real?

Hey, did you choose your race? no?
Nor did any other man.
Because those things have always been
In the Father's hands.

So if in your journey through this life
You wish to do your part
Love every man as yourself,
And GOD with all your heart.

Here is where you are DEAD wrong, "White" people have been killing "Black" people for centuries, it was called "Slavery".

As matter of fact, "White" people have been killing "RED" people and nearly wiped them out, that was called the Westward exspansion. Look at where the RED people are now.

I can go on and on, don't get me started.

Hey, someone does a crime they are guilty, not their race not their sex, not anybody else but them. Anyone who sees anything different is a racist, sexist ignorant fool.

No, I don't want to get you started mj. I'm quite sure you can go on and on. People of your apparent bias and/or lack of common sense are always quite capable of going on and on if nothing else.

But this is a lottery forum and I can hear your Politically Correct viewpoint anytime I want from the major news media.

Go back through this thread and look at my first two posts and pay close attention to see who brings up race and let them know that your last two sentences are directed at them. Is your outrage directed at them for bringing up her race and blonde hair and blue eyes or just me for responding? Are those the people you're trying to impress? I see people as good or bad. I don't care what color they are.

I'd pull the switch on Abraham's killer just as quick as I'd pull it on OJ and sleep like a baby, not caring a whit about what color they were.

If you're as concerned about slavery as you profess please hop a plane to North Africa because slavery is still running rampant over there.

There's your chance to do something.

Or are you just all talk?

No need to debate anything mj.  I've had enough debate with sound-byte intellectuals like you to last me two lifetimes. Nothing ever gets accomplished with your type because you don't know when you've been bested and wouldn't admit it if you did.  Your cookie-cutter, politically correct, rhetorical approach showed me all I need to know.

Unfortunately, I've known too many people like you. Guilt-ridden, limp-wristed, hand-wringing, emasculated approval-seekers. You and your ilk used to enrage me. As of late, you just bore me. I could write your side of the debate if you so wished. It's like a book I've read so many times I know it by rote. I could quote you before you speak.

Boring.

By your fruits I know ye mj and you are condescending as is typical and expected.  But arrogance is the last vestige of a fool.

It's too bad you feel it necessary to sell out your principles to be a politically correct people-pleaser. Don't want to be caught being insensitive, do we? Gag... Puke...

There are still real men in this country mj, who call 'em like they see 'em. They don't worry about making sure nobody anywhere in the world is offended by what they say. They just tell the truth and don't give two <snips> what anybody thinks about it as long as it's true.

Rosie,

You and the other lady started going off on a racial tangent. All of a sudden it wasn't just another killing - it was a blonde hair, blue eyed killing of a black person. As if that's worse than a black on black killing, which happens numerous times everyday in the inner cities with no outrage from you or anybody else.

I got no dog in this fight. I don't care what color the killer is. I'd gladly bust a cap in their head for free if they were found guilty and the government would let me.

Let's be honest though. You came up out of your trick bag with the race card for some reason. I ignored it. Then another person jumped on the bandwagon with white this and blonde that and jail is only for "them" and she'll get off with time served because she's white and all that nonsense.

I then referenced OJ simply to keep things in perspective.

Then Dudley Doofus comes riding in with white this, black that, red this and so on. He was groveling around on the ground and doing everything he could to get the approval of his target audience. I hope it worked for him but how he looks at himself as a man without shame I don't know.

Here's my position: I love everybody. I don't see colors - I see good and bad. I like good people whatever color they are and I don't like bad people whatever color they are. I just tell the truth and let the whiners whine. If the truth offends anybody that's their problem, I don't care.

Why you and the other person wanted to make it a racial issue is beyond me.

I'll take a different angle, although, I agree with RD for the first time in a long time.

Yes, she will get preferential treatment - she will get a lighter murder sentence than a man for the same crime - regardless of skin color.  Just the fact she is a woman.

You should be using spell check for every post, it has been a guessing game in almost all your posts, as to which word you mean to use.

I'll take a different angle, although, I agree with RD for the first time in a long time.

Yes, she will get preferential treatment - she will get a lighter murder sentence than a man for the same crime - regardless of skin color.  Just the fact she is a woman.

You agree with me?

Isn't that one of the seven signs of the apocalypse? LOL

Wrong, she will get preferential treatment because she is white, has blue eyes and blonde hair. I know the state I was raised in..they still hold white women in "high esteem".

PS..I never thought OJ was guilty.

Thanks for the advice Truecritic!

That is my point exactly,  she will get preferential treatment! however you deceive yourself if you say that it's because she is "a woman", yes she is a woman a white woman, in America has a lot more going for her than women of whatever other race or color!

To deny that fact is to be blinded by the dark!  I hope you can read this one with little difficulty!

Rd, is it not the reality, that in this country we do have some preferential treatments for some, more than others????

race  withstanding, I said that she will probably not get what she deserves because of those factors she has going for her!

I stated a fact! and It has nothing to do with me been racesist or any such thing, you said we should not bury our heads in the sand!

so why If I state something that is very probable you have to go go all the way back to 15 years. totally off the subject?  Is it not thn okay  I said if you go back 15 years why can't I go back further. My family is very Mixed, I have white in my family tree, Indian, Australian Aborigine, French, East Indian, So No! rd. I am not playing any race card,  but the truth is the truth! This is America I will defend it to the end, lay my life down if I have to for her, but I live with the facts!

So lets just accept it and go back to playing our Numbers!

Yes Rosie, there probably is preferential treatment given to certain people in this country.

I'll tell ya one thing though, they ain't been passin' any out to big old ugly long-bearded hillbillies as far as I can reckon.

But if you know somebody in the system or have money to bribe with or are well connected in the right circles you may well be dealt with far less harshly. All those considerations would most likely be off the table in a murder case however.

As noted by True Critic though, the fact that she is female will probably weigh in her favor (No outrage about that, right?).

I guess you didn't understand my response about my reference to OJ. The other lady was on a tirade about her getting off scot free or time served for killing a black man like it's a done deal. I just provided the yang to her yin to illustrate it can work both ways. It was not off subject - it was relevant and apropos. How about we let her be tried before we hang the blonde-haired, blue-eyed devil? Good Christians that we are.

She may be white but the judge and/or jury may not be.

Now that I know Rosie's an Aborigine, when I win the big one I'm gonna insist she play the Didgeridoo when we have the big bash at her house with the drunken brawl afterwards.

I guess I did not! That is what happens when we try to communicate without the benefit of eye contact, some things get lost in transelation and... in spelling...LoL I could not resist...  anyway rd,  I also think that this is a sad story that causes passions to rise, but the bottom line is we all feel badly for that family and their lost!    And I'm not going to get angry at someone because they don't agree with me and act like a child, and say silly things!

Now you being a long-bearded hillbillie with the steel--trap mind is very, very nice...and I am sure that is the reason you had so many women or wimmins, so who cares if the establishment don't give up the preferential treatment to you...here at LP we do rd, you are the best Now lets go get out numbers for tommorow rd, we have to win so we can pay some bills! Until we win the big One!

I am surprised that her skin color is an issue with anyone.  So, basically, if she gets a life sentence, it wouldn't be enough?   In your opinion a Black person would've gotten like 2 life sentences, is that what you mean?

I guess we wait and see what happens.

I get the feeling you wouldn't think he was guilty if you saw him do it as long as it was a white blonde woman he butchered alive.

That is very sick and very sad.

You didn't think OJ was guilty?

You should have watched the trial like everybody else in the country did.

He was definitely guilty. Everybody knows that .

Nobody was more surprised at the verdict than OJ and his shyster lawyers.

He said he would spend the rest of his life hunting down the real killers.

Unfortunately he only hunted them on fancy golf courses in your beloved Florida.

I guess he was held in "high esteem" there too.

I have some Wongga music I listen to Rosie. It's by members of the Wunambul Tribe from the Kalumburu regions of Northern Australia.

It's my understanding that women sometimes dance in main ritual dances but it is usually restricted to swaying with the music in the background.

So no Wandjina music at the big party.

We'll clog dance instead. I'll bring one of my favorite string bands - The Carolina Chocolate Drops, to provide the music.

I could scale down the drunken brawl afterward if necessary but it is a tradition in my part of the country. Think about it - maybe just a small brawl.

I'm just curious about the age of the posters on this topic...I find that a lot of these arguments or points of view sometimes belong to a certain age group.  Does anyone feel like sharing their age....or at least if they are in their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's...etc?

no

Ok I've been biting my tongue on all this black/white race stuff but I'm not suprised that her skin color is an issue.

To dopey the comments I don't think are so much because of age but more so the color of some of the people making the comments <--------I said SOME  not all.

Before anyone thinks I'm taking sides let me say this......I'm white. The man I've been dating for almost 3 years is black. The post office I work in is probably 90% black. Our Postmaster is black.

I'm from CA so to come to IL I'm like an outsider looking in and this is some of what I see.......

I have yet to hear even one black person say they think OJ was guilty.

More than once our postmaster has disciplined a black person and the comment is "he should be looking out for his own".

My man. The sisters say I "took" one of "their" men. I didn't take anyone.......he came to me. My man believes white women are raised to believe they own the world. Not only was I NOT raised to believe that...I told him I was very offended that he would even think such a thing.

I'm also very offended by the radio station some of the people at work play. Whatever the topic being discussed it's not about this is how women vs men react......it's white woman acts this way...black woman acts this way. Why all the need to separate by color?

Yes it's true even in this day and age not all races are treated equally and that's sad, but to say she will get preferential treatment soley because she's white? That's sad too!

White women are held in "high esteem"? Sometimes we see ONLY what we want to see, and what we see may not be the truth.

Sorry just my two cents.

This woman deserves to be punished and I hope she gets the max allowed for taking the life of another person. The sad truth is after the fact...you can't bring Mr. Shakespeare back. No amount of punishment will justify the awful crime she committed.
