N.J. casino loses more than $11M to two gamblers

They say the house always wins. But for one Atlantic City casino, that doesn't seem to have been the case lately.

In April, a blackjack player raked in $5.8 million at the Tropicana Casino and Resort. Then last week, a different man took home $5.3 million after his own amazing run of luck at the Tropicana.

The Tropicana may have been the author of its own misfortune. It's deliberately put an emphasis on high-stakes games, under the theory that it'll come out a winner in the end. And casino officials say that despite the recent massive losses, the gaming emporium will stick with the plan.

"That's just how it goes sometimes; if you bet more, you can win more," Tony Rodio, the Tropicana's president and CEO, told the AP. "We have a strategy of offering the most aggressive and highest table games limits in the Atlantic City market and we're not going to change that. If someone wants to take the shot, we'll take the action."

Don Johnson, from Bensalem, Penn., took his shot in April, and won $5.8 million playing blackjack. Johnson, an expert gambler, had also taken Caesar's Atlantic City for more than $4.2 million and the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa for $5 million.

Then last week, an unidentified man played craps, blackjack, and mini-baccarat, and walked away with $5.3 million. He left a $150,000 tip for dealers, which was split among the table dealers working that night.

Still, neither man's win was likely as dramatic as the one enjoyed in 2004 by Ashley Revell, a Briton who sold all his possessions to scrape together $135,300, which he wagered on red at a Las Vegas roulette table.

You can watch Revell's big moment here:

That sounds kinda cool, puttin' everything you own on one spin of the roulette wheel.

I don't imagine the little woman'd  be too crazy about the idea though.

But she already hit the jackpot when she married me.

Her mother's another story though.

She's a big woman.

She walked in front of the TV once and I missed 60 Minutes.

When she hauls ass she has to make two trips.

She's got smaller fat women orbiting around her.

I don't mess with that woman.

Uh-uh, no sir.

ofc their wanting  people to know big spenders beat the house

am just as sure they Never report all the millions they made form Suckers  in past few months LOL

no such thing as bad press when you want it

ether way. got to love a happy ending via gamblers beating the house for millions.

if i ever had a few million to bet around with , like it was  just pennies to me, i would so spend it on lottery games!  rofl

, or maybe even some blackjack casino as that's the only <snip> game i like playin at casino's

also remb, if you guys win big via gambling , that same tax year, you can rip off the losing amounts  onto the winnings being tax'd that year

i plan to gamble and lose millions"must likly" or win millions more atfer a major winfall. as  if your going to bet a lot of money, its better to risk it when you can Write off the losing amount off the top of the winning amount, f the tax man!

I love to hear of winners in the casino, especially of the guy winning at the craps table.

But I wish they would have been more precise on saying if it was PROFIT or just what they took home?

For instance if the guy started with 8 Million and only took home 5 Million, and they ONLY report on the 5 Million, they are leaving out the little detail of him LOSING 3 Million in the proces.

Hopefully that is not the case and these cats are doing very well.

As for Don Johnson, I read he is a CEO of a Company that makes software dealing with Horse Race Betting. Apparantly his bankroll is massive so he can afford to make bets in the hundreds of thousands. I also read he does not tip very much but I really hope that isnt true -- the dealers in casinos depend on those tips just as much as any waiter  or bartender.

Seeing that this other dude tipped $150,000 is just amazing. Hats off to him. When I'm at the craps table I make sure to tip dealers AND other players if they manage to make me a decent amount. Gotta show the love!

The casinos didn't 'lose' that amount in reality, the other players during that time the winnerS was raking it in was maxing out their ATM accounts, stealing money from their wives pocketbooks, selling their jewlery, knocking over old ladies in the parking lots to get a few more bucks to have another 'spin.  The casinos are losing money, even the Borgota, my fav hangout.  Okay do the math, the odds are against the player depending on which game you play determines how much odds are against you.    I know the safer bets and only take with me 100.00, if I win I WIN, if I lose I use my comps to have a good meal and see a show.  Can't let the fever get to you down there.  One day I hope to keep winning until I pass out, they will have to wheel me up to the room like I see some of the other players have "room service''  ROFL!

I love to hear about the little guy getting the prize in life, jus hope they don't wake up one morning with a hangover and find  "ooooops!"
